Do you suffer from nausea in VR? Do you have any tips of your own? Let me know in the comments below 👇👇👇

Less then 30 seconds first time in a VR set was enough to induce levels of nausea that rendered me immobile for half an hour and wiped out for 6 odd. I tried everything but the only thing that got me over the edge was really strong fan directly over my face. Slowly built up tolerances and after spending a small house deposit to get a top end PC, now I can do DCS for 8 hours straight!

VR will NEVER get past being a tiny niche thing if they can't solve the sickness problem. Chewing gum, putting fans on, taking pills and constant breaks, having a canary balanced on the tip of you nose...these are ridiculous things you have to do just to play games at a much lower resolution on a $2,500 GPU 😂🤣. All to sit in a plane for an hour and watch the clouds go by in MSFS...boring, just like real life. I'd like to try it with DCS World, but the amount of effort required in that game just to get it somewhat playable is ridiculous. The companies that make these things agree that sickness is the biggest issue holding it back. If they can get it fixed, we'll see. Cue VR cult fanboyz....🙄

Ginger!!! I used to get motion sickness while flying irl. Since I started using ginger pills or cookies I never got sick again. (saw this on MythBusters). When I got my VR headset, I got very queasy in the beginning, and I would pop like 2 or 4 ginger pills and all be good. Now I am so used to VR I can spent hours racing, flying or doing whatever in VR without getting sick at all.

I was recently in the car and decided to put on RU-vid. I wasn't sure about doing it because my mood was poor, definitely not up for my usual stock/finance subscriptions. And i dont use the phone while driving so id be stuck listening. I was really happy to put on the latest pimax video here and by some miracle, RU-vid proceeded to play the previous videos. I watch everything here but having it autoplay all the VRFlightSimGuy hardware content, albeit backwards, put everything into great context and it was fun to listen to all the excitement conveyed. Thank you.

I felt really dizzy for a long time after using VR for the first few weeks but am happy to say that i don't feel that any more! I do love automatically moving forward in my seat with perceived inertia after coming to a complete stop after landing. That never ceases to amuse me.

Excellent info! Ive had Menieres Syndrome for 20 years, and my first motion platform was a suggestion from therapist to work through the dizziness. It worked and helped my bi-positional vertigo. VR isn’t an issue, but can’t do real upside down rides. My YAW2 (on order) should be interesting lol!

Ginger gum works wonders. I was very prone to motion sickness when I first started flying in VR. I ordered several packs of ginger gum on Amazon and used it everytime I flew VR. That and short sessions built up my tolerance and now I have zero issues with motion sickness in VR. It also works very well in real life flying if you are prone to motion sickness.

“Relief Bands” they give you a little electrical zap on the wrist, For some this sort of short circuits that stomach awareness feeling that makes us feel like hurling. Not a drug. Just turn it off or on, with adjustable strengths.

In my early years in VR I had to deal with that motion sickness also but once you pass the VR sickness barrier you are go. Only with helicopters I still have it because they spin too much when I'm the pilot Haha. My tip for me personally is to had a light meal and not when you are hungry. Yes breeze of fresh air helps and fly slow planes at first and once you get used to them upgrade and don't jump in a figher jet with first flight or you will need to clean more than just your lensen lol.

I feared motion sickness but I did not encounter it a lot. The only time I feel a bit dizzy is when there is an excessive yaw motion. I guess motion with the absence of vision is worse than vision with the absence of motion

In my case I don't have any sickness on sims, I can do crazy manouvers, tight turns or fly upside down happily for hours, but the moment I have any first person free locomotion I'll feel dizzy immediately. I guess if I have any fixed point of reference (cockpit) my brain feels fine because thinks "Ok, YOU are not moving, you are inside something that is moving, no prob", but if not... So, my sickness is all about virtual legs, and after 2 years I didn't still have courage to train them : (

If you are hot in vr, there is a product called "3M Nexcare coldhot therapy gel mask" replace the face gasket foam with this, put it in the fridge, and use it when in VR. Might work 😅

Have the lenses as close as possible to your eyes to increase the sweet spot. When your eyes are trying to focus through the area which cannot be focused you will become sick. That is why in VR you move your head to look around & not your eyes. Your eyes have a sweet spot of about 30° & unfortunately most headsets have a smaller sweet spot. Varjo knows this & that's why their VR-3 & XR have a 27° sweet spot.

Great tips, Steve. I didn't apply any of those when I started out and just pushed through the discomfort and pain. And for that my equilibrium is forever messed up 🤣😂 Nah, just kidding of course. I think you'll be fine in the end either way, but you'll save yourself from a bit of unease if you follow your steps. The fan thing is actually something I will try. Greetings from Norway 👋👍

Ya that's actually the worst thing to do, lol. Motion sickness is one thing you normally can't really 'push through' since it just gets worse and worse. Normally you'd want to stop at the first sign of motion sickness, but props to you for going full barbarian through it though, lol...

@justaguydoinstuff Год назад
Yep, I read that the VR motion sickness actually comes from your body thinking that it's been poisoned when your eyes and body don't match up which is why it wants you to vomit out the 'poison'. When I first tried my original Rift when it first came out, I almost hurled and had this aversion to ever put the headset back on again even though i really wanted to. Eventually I tried it again and just did 10 minute sessions until I adapted to it. Now I'm totally fine with pretty much everything in VR. So getting VR legs is a real thing!
@jimj2683
@jimj2683 Год назад
How long do the VR legs last? Do you have to go trough the same process if you haven't gamed in a couple of months?
@justaguydoinstuff
@justaguydoinstuff Год назад
@@jimj2683 Good question. I have gone a couple of months without vr and when I went in again I could feel it a little bit but nothing like when I first tried it. So it may take a few shorter sessions to not feel it at all, but it was so slight that I barely noticed it.

Interesting thiught about motiin rig. It was cure on friend . Brain was not being fooled and had for the visuals. I never had problems with vr but interesting enough, when I got my motion rig, I felt like I was falling out of the seat, I thought I needed a seatbelt. During one of flights, I lifted the VR headset and saw that the huge Bank turn was only a few inches and was literally fooling. My brain combine with the VR took a few more flights before I convinced myself I wasn’t gonna fall out of the seat, but the VR with the motion is the bomb.

I say lean into it.... Do you suffer from motion sickness? Buy my course, and I'll teach you how to use it to fight cravings, be thinner, spend more time with your family, and to be calmer in the final moments of a commercial airliner crash. You'll also receive mods to enhance your nauseating experience such as our framerate instability tool (Same technology found in AAA console ports) and the fan favorites no floor mod where you randomly fall through the floor of your plane and the unexplained sudden death spiral, your guaranteed to enhance your motion sickness.

@@VRFlightSimGuy Hah,Ii do have a serious thing going on but sadly this is my terrible sense of humor. There's nothing like a good nauseous event to put you off food. I very much enjoyed your video. I have only tried static VR experiences and you mentioned things I never thought about and will definitely implement especially as I bring doubters into VR. In the 90s at a comdex trade show I tried a wire frame graphically powered VR headset. I opened my eyes and the next thing I remember I was picked up off the floor. It was crazy! Something short circuit ed my brain.. Didn't try that again, although I kind of want to own one now to go with the story.
