Tom- would love to see more info about headstrong but highly intelligent dogs. We have a 3 yr old Anatolian who knows all the basic obedience, and is a very fast learner, but will occasionally refuse to respond to commands. He’s a mammoth dog, weighs 175 pounds, and is crazy strong.

I love this channel and I adore guardians like this. She was the perfect student and obviously dotes on her sweet pup. Good on her! I learn so much from this content, having both a pittie and a St Bernard. The pittie is so easy as he loves everything but my Saint doesn’t love other dogs as much as I do, even though she’s a gift with therapy to humans. This stuff teaches me so much, I wish this guy was in my area.

Loved her change at 8:30, she was so focused on the dog and didn't even want the treat. Literally, a few seconds later after you work her out of her hyper focus, she then takes a treat because her mind is obviously not hyper focused on the dog. Awesome stuff like that is great to see! #details #thelittlethings

Awesome video. You show so clearly what to do. The owner did great! I would love a video where you really focus in on leash corrections-with a slip lead or prong. Sometimes they are so subtle it’s hard to see on video. I’ve started to slow the videos down just to see when and how exactly the correction is given- angle of the leash, speed and power, and most importantly the timing.

I've been on a complete binge of dog training I have a reactive Cane Corso /lab mix the prong made him worse and that's my fault my timing sucked and I had to rebuild my dog back from scratch with classical conditioning so before you go buying a prong or slip know what you're doing! Tom Davis's timing is astounding why he is so successful with these tools and such A great trainer!! if you're a dog owner struggling try some boring classical condition !!!!

That's true, i have an terrier mix, he isn't much of a barker, but when he starts he can bark fast and loud, he knows it's not aloud to react like that, so my dogs solution to that is barking silently after an correction, i can still here the litle silent bark or a grunt noise, he is indeed stuborn about barking, altough he is a quit silent and an easy going dog overall

Tom if you ever see this , will you do a video for training dogs who are not food motivated ? My mastiff believe it or not has no interest in snacks or rewards while I'm trying to teach her or while out on a walk, I've tried toys as well, she just isn't that partial to anything at this point 😞

My dog isnt barky but pulls to play or lies down which can be frustrating. I use these methods to break his focus. What's hard is if the other dog comes over and winds mine up. Happens almost every day but its a catch 22. You cant always walk them where there are no dogs. Controlled environments are easy but real life is so much harder

Thank you so much for this great content. I am wondering if you know a trainer in Australia with the same "no bad dog" vision and way of teaching/re-training the handler/dog? I live in Brisbane and would love to get a professional help to learn how to manage my reactive blue healer on walk. She got bite by the neighbor's dog that did dig under the fence and she had to get surgery on her leg cause of the bite last year, she was only a pup. Since she gets aggressive and into fight if there is another dog coming near her a toy/stick or if the other dog is not a calm dog (sometimes without me beeing able to understand what set her off). She is also very protective towards me when outside if there are other dogs I can't pat the other dog. Otherwise she is adorable inside the house by herself or with our cat: they are like besties sleeping and playing so gently together. Thanks in advance for any professional trainer contact in my region with the same approach that I love on this channel.

Hi! I've watched a lot of your RU-vid videos and Tiktok videos, and I have a few questions about prong collars that I haven't seen answers for yet. Do you take a prong collar off around the house or for bedtime? I've seen some brands of collar that have two large loops on the chain for leash hookup, do you use both or just one? I've had some success with martingales for my 80lb Pitbull/Boxer mix, but wanted to get more info before I switch to a prong. Thank you in advance and thank you for helping so many dogs and owners!
@rainaquelle365
@rainaquelle365 2 года назад
He's answered this one before. They are training tools, so when you are done training, go ahead and take them off. The flat collar stays on 24/7. The prong goes on before the walk/training session. When you're done, you get to remove it. If you're working on resource guarding in the home, keep the prong on to give you something to grab with a leash. But when you're done for the evening, take off the prong. We've actually used a tab - a really short leash about one foot in length - for training to give us something other than the collar to grab when the leash got in the way.

I have a husky and I have e collar prong slip gentle lead and harness ... in my opinion the harness(both front and back clip ) it does not do anything for mine. The e collar was good but I hated it in public the prong was the best at training and now that he's not reactive. Im using the gentle lead now just training loose leash(due the prong stopping the excessive pulling) . The tools with his technique worked amazing for me

My 2yr old GSD has always pulled while on the leash but within the last few weeks she just started to pull harder and tries everything to get off the leash and actually dragged my mother once and is now starting to not come when called any tips on how to correct her?
@rainaquelle365
@rainaquelle365 2 года назад
For the pulling, Tom has lots of great videos. We use a prong collar with our GSD and just before she goes to pull, we would give a quick pop. If they are already pulling, you need to let the leash out a tiny bit to be able to "pop" rather than pull. Since the prong doesn't really poke the dog, they don't mind being pulled around and it doesn't let the dog know that you don't like their behavior. In other words, pulling a dog into place gives the dog no feedback - regardless of using a prong, flat collar or harness. You need to give the pop as a quick correction, with verbals - leave it, or heel - depending on your situation. Good luck!
