I'll be honest, watching this video I was pretty turned off due to the harsh corrections. But then I decided, let me just give it a try with my puppy, who doesn't seem to notice me on our walks, and so I gently practice this for about 15 minutes and already. He is turning to look at me every couple steps for a check in. It made me pretty emotional on our walk and I can't wait to see how positively this influences our walks and our relationship. Thank you for addressing this so clearly and thoroughly.

I’m a dog walker. I frequently walk dogs that pull. This video changed my work life. What I was doing wrong was looking at the dog when I did my U turn. Thank you so much for that instruction. I do find that I don’t have to snap as hard as you do but the technique is sound. My dog was pulling so bad that he hurt both of my shoulders. I watched this video and the very next day, we worked on this. Truly, 10 minutes, 3 yelps and quick turns and he was 100% better. He used to watch everything else but me..not any more. Then educated my husband on this video and WOW! He was amazed. We use a slack chain collar so he heard it coming after a few pulls. Our dog is not food motivated but praise motivated. This was by far the best dog training video. It truly makes sense and our dog was happy to get out walking and spend time with us. He even did better when other dogs approached him while walking. He is a work in progress and so are we, I guess. TY for the info!
@TheMasterSheo
@TheMasterSheo Год назад
A small tip; your dog probably isn't food motivated because he's full from how much you feed him already, lol. I know it sounds obvious, but yeah. Most of the time, intensive training is best done at the time the dog usually would have a meal. Right when they're hungry and used to eating. I know a lot of owners just kind of let their dog free graze, they pour a big old bowl of food and the dog eats what and when it wants. That isn't super great for a number of reasons. I won't go into detail too much, but obviously if you do that the only way food training could ever possibly be a thing with a dog that free-grazes is with super high value, probably expensive treats. Most dogs who are hungry will literally work for you for the dry kibble they normally eat.

I think what is crazy is that I watched this video and thought to myself it could not be this simple as he goes very in-depth as for as information-wise on what you do, and why you do it. To really understand both what can be learned and applied on your part so that it makes all the world of a difference to teaching your dog the behavior you want exhibited. I watched this video earlier today at 6am on my phone went to the store on my lunch break got a prong collars and from 5pm-6pm applied what I learned in this video and poof my 90lbs, 9 month dog went from tuggin and not paying attention to the perfect walking companion.

@raventhelabrador2665
@raventhelabrador2665 2 года назад
@@heiditlps4000 I'm also a dog trainer for many years now and yes any type of dog collar can be used effectively for dog training its always more about the person rather than the dog. Something i always say to my clients is you are not here for training lessons for your dog you are hear for training lessons for you and learning how to use different methods and tools to accomplish your goals with your dog. Any regular flat collar can be used just as well and as effectively as any prong collar or any other type of collar or training tools. To be clear I absolutely do also use prong collars for some dog's but its never been because the dog needs it I train people not the dogs and some people will need to use different tools and methods compared to other people and the dogs they have but its never because a dog can't be trained to do something with in this example a regular flat collar. The most important thing when using a prong collar is making sure that its properly fit to the dog its going to be used on because a prong collar can seriously hurt a dogs neck and throat very easily when not used correctly and not on the dog correctly. Equally as important with a prong collar is that the person not the dog but the person they must be correctly trained to use the prong collar as well and I will say it now and until the day I die but you do not have to hurt a dog with a prong collar to get amazing results in fact when used correctly a prong collar shouldn't ever hurt your dog and you should definitely never use it in a way that makes your dog Yelp out loud in pain you can again seriously hurt a dogs neck and throat when they are used incorrectly and not properly sized to the dog. Anyways I'm not saying that anyone should use any particular method i use all methods depending on what each person and dogs needs are but i I never teach a person to use any tool to use pain to get results its completely not necessary and only builds fear in your dog and a well trained dog should never be trained with fear tactics its never the right thing to do with any animal.🙂👍✌
@coryc1904
@coryc1904 Год назад
@@raventhelabrador2665 I appreciate you, but I have to insist that flat collars are more dangerous to the dog than prong collars, talking about popping the leash. If you're going to "pop" the leash for a little snap correction, or even if the dog is pulling and putting strain on their neck, the flat is more dangerous and will crush their esophagus because it only applies pressure to one concentrated area: their sensitive throat. A prong is designed to distribute pressure evenly around the neck. Have a fun day. Glad you're a paid trainer but I really hope you're not encouraging people to pop the leash with a flat collar on. With a heavy puller or a rebel, some people are going to severely damage their dog on that advice. Much love Friend.

That's how to go ... be the lovable BOSS! Sooo many people grew up without reliable leadership from parents, and never experienced the responsible guidance that makes every kid and every dog feel so wonderfully safe and secure in a natural way. You can only be truely free to develop yourself when you feel safe and secure. The 'guidance' many of us experienced as children came from insecure, injust and unreliable adults. It made us feel humiliated, angry and very stressed out. When we see strict dog trainers being boss, that reminds us of the bad bosses our parents often were, and we vent out our bottled up anger to those trainers. If you have never seen leadership that serves yóu, that teaches you and cares for you responsibly and lovingly, you have a hard time recognizing it, let alone to become such a leader yourself. Thanks for your very clear and well dosed instructions. You're a great guy!

I didn't have a pronged collar but her regular collar worked fine. She's a good girl who wants to please. Thanks again! Walk was so much better for both of us. ❤❤❤❤

Had to come to comment because I this worked like magic. A year of struggling to maintain control while walking and then I got results with this technique after literally three minutes. Now just for practice and refinement. Thank you so much for the video!

This really works I got a puppy from my grandparents cause they couldn’t take care of him and he’s just crazy and energetic but I did this for about 20-25mins in the driveway and sidewalk he picked it up quick I’m proud of him

I have a 1 year old female husky who pulled and lunged at everything. I watched one of your videos for the first time last week and ordered a prong collar. Within 5 minutes she was loose leash walking right beside me. Thank you so much she is in training to be a service dog. She’s a year old.

I have a husky too, and I’m trying to get her to be a service dog. Did the prone collar help? I know they pull so much and I’m trying to get her ready for the service dog test. She gets too excited when she’s in the mall and stuff 😭

@@jaedevrick6621 yes I recommend the prong collar and even an e collar. Just make sure if you do get an e collar you watch videos on how to use those correctly as well. I don’t use the e collar much but it helps keep her prong collar from sliding down her neck. She also has been doing so well with her SD training because of her prong and e collar (I only use the vibration) when it comes to focusing mostly on me.

Practiced this with my 7mon old lab/hound mix and I was amazed how amazingly this worked. The H/S prong collar works beautifully and now it's a joy to walk the pup! Thanks for your help!

Thank you for showing me a better way of training our soon-to-be 2-year-old Cane Corso. He was given to us with no training so we had a crash course on knowing him. He did take into us since day one. My wife will walk him with ease; when I walk him (I need not say). I will put this in my backyard training for me to use on him.

Favourite Dog Training Channel by far ... using your Focus Training and this Method and it works wonders on my 7 month GSD Pup. She starts to give me more attention. I freaking love it!
