Just thinking of the dentist makes me gag what can i do? Im serious about this one i have a very strong gag reflex, when ever something foreign object(except food) touches my mouth it will trigger my gag reflex and also just thinking about the cleaning in the teeth process makes me gag
The amount of people here that are just trying to get rid of gagging that don't gag like 3 times every hour is lucky, I gag because of everything and nothing

Our body tries to protect us from asphyxiating by pushing them away from the throat.) If you can brush your teeth at home just fine but gag at the dentist, that might be the reason. :)
Omg this! I have GERD and when the dentist numbs my soft palate i gag and cant breathe, which is so confusing to me because on tips to reduce gag reflex they always suggest numbing that area. Can you help me understand the correlation between GERD and gagging bec of this?
Last time i went for an impact tooth removal, my dentist put anesthetic on the roof of my mouth, i don’t know if he put it too deep or what but it numbs the area and trigger my gag reflex. It was such a bad situation for me that i felt so uncomfortable and panic cause i can’t swallow my saliva so i felt like gaging for the rest of the procedure. And how my dentists don’t understand my condition made me feel worse. I thought it was my fault and I’m one of rare people who face this problem. It felt like a nightmare and i became a dentophobia ever after.
huh. . i was just at the dentist and they couldn't even do the xray because i was gagging so much a vurp came up. . yeah, i brought one those bad boys up for the dentist. i need a root canal and they sent me home saying they wouldn't be able to do the rubber dam with me gagging like that. so it's interesting when you say that the rubber dam supposedly "helps" to suppress the gag reflex. . . they also told me the "breating through the nose" trick and it could also be that i have a deviated septum and it's really hard for me to breathe through the nose. . i dunno, the dentist i saw was like, "if your gag reflex is that strong , you might not be able to be sedated" and i thought anesthesia would suppreess the gag reflex and your video seems to suggest that, but the dentist i saw was like "i dunno". . he also admitted, he does not do sedation referred me to another dentist which i have to make that phone call. he said that most dentists aren't gonna want to risk sedating (and possibly killing?) a patient for something "as simple" as a root canal. . .
I came here because I have a terrible gag reflex with my mouth guard, which I have to use to do sparring work in muay thai/boxing/mma, and in the middle rounds after getting a bit tired my gag reflex is triggered, and it is very uncomfortable and annoying. Practicing having my mouth guard, at home, while humming makes it kind of better to make me get used to it. Thanks for the advice.

I'm here to find ways not to gag. Had to have most of my upper teeth removed. Have the false teeth made, but everytime I try to put in I gag and panic terribly. I look like a bag lady without teeth. Had mentioned my gagging problem to dentist at the time, and saying what if this happens. He put his hands in the air, saying oh well.
I do the one where u breathe through your nose it works. Also I am getting braces and I got my pallet extender I’m so it’s quit useful when they have to try it out to get the right filling for my pallet something like that
Any advice for gagging on my Hawley retainer? I'm supposed to wear it at all times except eating and brushing for the next nine months, so not a short amount of time that I can just "white knuckle" through it. I can't handle gagging constantly for 9 months. I'm genuinely not sure I can handle it because and I'm feeling miserable.
I’m getting ready to go to the dentist for the third time for a night guard impression. I have a bad gag reflex in general and have puked each of the last times with the impressions. I’m hoping one of these options will help. The dentist has tried the leg thing for me and hasn’t worked and because I keep puking the impressions don’t come out right

I love your helps I HAVE to get used to by dentures I got then three years ago and still can’t where them for more than a couple of hours and I start gagging, I have Kawasaki disease. Please help me more. I don’t make my own saliva because of my lupus
