It isn't fun dumping the grey and black tanks, and who wants to dig around for the hose and fittings let alone have the contents drip onto or touch other RV items! Although most RVs come with a place to store the RV sewer hose (bumper or tube), there often is no place to store RV sewer hose fittings.
In this video we offer 2 cheap and easy solutions to the question of "how to store RV sewer hose fittings" and we show you how our sewer hoses are stored. First we review what we did on our Escape Trailer 21, and then we share another option. Installation is easy and only requires a drill with small drill bit, and screw driver, although you may need something to cut the plastic box with. For your convenience, links to parts on Amazon are linked below.
Option #1 Parts:
Plastic Battery Box (~$24 U.S.): https: //amzn.to/3dK989a
4" Stainless Steel Hose Clamps (2) (~$5 U.S for 2): amzn.to/3sH0j48
Note: If you have a larger bumper than what is on the Escape Travel Trailer, you will need to
measure for a larger hose clamp.
Option#2 Parts:
Metal (or plastic) 50 Caliber Ammunition Can (~$22 U.S): amzn.to/3sNcRXQ
Above with Lock: amzn.to/3tZVJj7
Note: Square Stainless Steel U-bolt (2 or more) used to secure the can, must be wide enough and
long enough to fit bumper from inside the can. We didn't implement this option so we don't
have the exact part for you.
AFFILIATE LINK DISCLOSURE: We receive a small commission when you shop through the following Amazon link: amzn.to/3pebZKS
It doesn’t cost you a thing and it’s a small way to tip us for the ginormous amount of hours we spend filming, editing, traipsing through mud and snow, cold and heat, buying video gear and computer software, and battling online trolls. What a great idea you gave me, I happened to replace my single battery box for a dual and had left the one batt box that now, thanks to your amazing idea, will be added to my rear bumper . Smart tip, thanks

Now that I have a T5.0, this hack is much more relevant as in our prior fifth wheel, we had storage space for it. I remember watching this video last year & had to come back & re-watch. I will be following your lead for a second tube for the second hose as well as the battery box storage for the multitude of sewer hookup attachments.

What’s so bad about the blue hose that comes with the camper?

Maybe I need to re-visit this on my trailer. I have always rinsed the hose and adapters and fittings, etc, rinsed them really well with the water that's right there at the dump, whether at the campsite with a dump or at a dump site. But either way, my hose/fittings/90-degree/etc, none of them smell at all. Maybe some folks are concerned with sanitary issues rather than smells? But I always wear gloves, then throw them out, and wash my hands. And I really do rinse everything really well and nothing smells. Am I missing something? This is my fourth year with this trailer and those hoses/fittings. In fact, I just got done with the spring maintenance on my Escape, and one of things I do is SMELL that hose and the fittings ... no smell, nada. ???

Hey Ann, no you're not missing anything!!! Ours don't really stink either but we do hate storing then in the front box near our other items like water hoses etc. By having them in the battery box our sewer stuff is isolated from everything else and easier to access when dumping.

@@AdventuresInNoMadness ok, whew (whew! in so many possible ways) ... thanks for your reply. I have a plastic box that just fits in that front storage box. That plastic box holds all of the extra tank shenanigans that I might ever need. The box is on the left side of the storage bin ... other stuff is in the middle ... and the water hoses and such fittings are all in their own separate box on the right side of that storage bin. I think we're all good to go. :-) You folks are the best, that's for sure!

@@annhay4572 No Ann, you’re the best!! It’s nice to have those items in a separate box, wherever that box is!!

Is there a way it could be locked, my concern is someone thinking they are stealing a battery?
@AdventuresInNoMadness
@AdventuresInNoMadness 3 года назад
Hi Jacqueline, thanks for the question! If you want to use the battery box option, you could try a bike cable or something like that to lock it. The battery box itself is hard to pull off without actually breaking the box itself. There are locking ammunition boxes that are primarily metal, but there are some plastic ammo boxes just not sure if you can get them with the lock kit. Here is an example: amzn.to/3tZVJj7
