Reserve will be similar to tawny in its longevity, but 8 weeks is probably beyond the recommended lifetime after opening. It is not harmful or posionous though, even if off, so it would be okay to smell & sip to see how it tastes. There is a chance it will still be okay if stored correctly
Thank you for this great info. I bought a vintage port and it’s so delicious. I just don’t have a stopper (cork) for after it is opened. Do you have any advice for that? I only drink port once or twice a month, but a small quart glass. I’d love to store this specific bottle. Also, do I store it in the fridge or cupboard? (It’s super cold in my kitchen)
Either storage option is good although fridge might help it last a little bit longer. Investing in a cheap wine stopper (available for under £5) would also definitely help to slow the oxidation proccess. Vintage ports, as they've not been exposed to a lot of oxygen in their life will deteriorate quality and richness much quicker even if proper storage can make it last a few days longer :)
Great tips! Thanks for the video! Are the Fine Ruby ports similar to Tawny in regards to storage, serving temperature, and how long it lasts once opened? I became a novice after trying a port that I loved and am trying to learn Ports.
Thanks for the comment Tasha! Glad to hear you're getting into Port Ruby Port is stored the same as Tawny port but served at room temperature. In terms of lasting, Ruby will normally go for about about month after opening and Tawny closer to two.
Electric lights won’t affect port as much as sunlight. Dimmable LEDs are the best option, but generally as long as it’s not so close to the bulb and it’s not constantly on, it will have a minimal effect
