One of the many questions we get asked is how to strike an attacker. Depending on the situation, there are many options that can be presented to you.
The first thing you always want to do is to diffuse the situation so you can avoid the confrontation from getting physical. However, if that doesn’t work, then you always need to go pre-emptive to protect yourself.
One of the best hits is the throat shot. The throat strike is great when you’re in a position with your arms crossed in front of you so all you do is basically strike your attacker in the throat with your arm by bringing it forward.
The reason why the throat strike is so powerful is because you’re putting the whole force of your body behind your punch when you go in to hit your attacker.
It’s also a great strike because you hit your attacker with the whole length of your arm. If done correctly, you can easily stop your attacker because you’re aiming his neck which is a very sensitive area with the nerves.
Even if you do flinch, because you’re using the whole length of your arm, you’re still going to aim the facial area of your attacker.
Make sure to practice these moves with your partner so you can work on your timing and position.

Personally, I would not stand in front of an aggressive person with my arms down and crossed like that. I have found the best thing is to put both hands up in front of you, open hands, palms out, backing little by little, saying no man I don’t wanna fight I don’t want any trouble, but I’m ready to throw some shots or defend. Legal wise, it makes him the aggressor even if you strike first with palm strikes or whatever. Perception and hands are ready for offense and defense. My 2 cents.

Great videos Nick and Patrick! Would really love to see you guys do some realistic videos on how to deal with some of the violence we are seeing in the streets with certain groups targeting certain individuals. Obviously if you can avoid it, avoid it by what if you can’t? It’s happening more and with the political unrest and groups going to different places I find it unrealistic more and more to just try not to be there. There is too much fear mongering and intimidation going on. I’m seeing quite a lot of video with certain street “bullies” running up from behind sucker punching women or punches to the head over and over. They are doing this to women, older people and couples. They know what they are doing and seem to like to do it from behind. Also a single one attacking then quickly followed by 3-5 people or more Coming up fast from behind joining them when there is already lots of noise, chaos and people are walking along the street. Would love to have you guys trouble shoot and do some different scenarios and also psychological etc. maybe also attacked in your car too. I love your channel! Wish you were closer I’d totally be at your classes in person in an instant. Love your realistic raw teaching.

Thank you Sybella for your comment and support of our self-defense channel, it's much appreciated. The situation that is going on right now is very sad. Indeed, there are a lot of innocent people getting attacked, especially in the USA. Awareness plays a huge part of self-defense, but with the type of violence that we are seeing recently, goes beyond just awareness and avoidance. People are getting attacked for no reason, just because they are at the wrong place at the bad moment. That said, our Code Red Defense RU-vid videos share a lot of helpful advice, however for a complete course on how to learn how to handle situations like what we are seeing in the streets right now, will require to watch our complete instructional videos that are available on our website. We're not trying to sell anything here, we're just saying that our most complete videos which are demonstrating how to deal with real life scenarios against multiple attackers, weapon attacks, and extreme violence has been created in longer videos. The best way to stay in contact with these situations is via our newsletter: www.codereddefense.com/newsletter In the meantime, there are several videos on RU-vid to learn from. These videos provide important and helpful self-defense tips. We hope you and your family will be safe in these difficult times.

CodeRedDefense.com Thank you for your reply. You summed it up well and it is very sad. It’s not in my budget right now with all going on as I looked immediately to try to join but is there one out of your purchased ones you’d recommend to be best on that? That way I can budget for that. Thanks for all you guys are doing. I’ve already signed up for your newsletter 😊

Use the bone sticking out on the wrist to strike the target. This is used by Dim Mak practitioners. Warning tho. This can cause serious damage to your aggressor if you strike the said part of the neck.
@thomasthorne4010
@thomasthorne4010 3 года назад
Two things: 1. One, you're attacking me which means that whatever I do to you ...... within reason, you asked for that. 2. The reason you strike with the forearm is because you have a bigger, stronger, stable weapon and striking the neck area which is small on it's own given the situation, it's already difficult. Also, you want to minimize damage to you and literally striking with the wrist as a weapon could put you in a bad situation. If that be the case, a palm heel is better anyway

I would never 1. Stand that close to a potential attacker or 2. Stand with my arms folded. I would backup out of immediate punching range and have my hands up in a "I don't want to fight" position. I don't mean this as a slam to the guy teaching.

so with all this in mind you suggest attacking is the best defense? i dont get it. might be my asian mentality tho.

Bruce Lee said, " don't think .....FEEL ". If you are in a situation with a person ...... SERIOUSLY NOW ....yes, you are to TRY to remain calm as best as possible without disturbing those fine motor skills. Yes, Nick is ALL ABOUT preemptive strikes. In JKD, you are taught to feel the situation you are in and literally ......." Be water ' meaning you must adapt to that situation and if you FEEL the situation get outta hand ...... and there are other LEGAL IMPLICATIONS ...... and if your attacker moved on you FIRST ........ then yes, this is a great strike because he SHOULD not see this coming. No, in a situation you don't just LOOK to engage ..... that's wanting a fight and self defense isn't about wanting to hit a person, but to defend yourself WHEN NO OTHER OPTION FOR ESCAPE IS AVAILABLE. If you have room to get outta there......get outta there. I'm a Federal Protection Officer with 20+ years experience and know the law when it comes to personal defense. If you have an avenue of escape ..... use it. If your life is on the line with no way out,, well ....... make a way out

@@thomasthorne4010 thats what i guess. but the video showed me that i just need to attack to defense myself. just to clarify im doing chinese kung fu for about 12 years now. i just got into a fight 1 time at the beginning of my path to learn and i really did not liked it. it was, as u said, because i had no way to escape. but now my mindset and with that my charisma has changed alot and there are no people that wants to harm. luckily i must say. i mean im just a normal person (1,85m around 80kg) thanks for your nice and kind answer! best regards!!

If you see the hand moving back for a punch, I'd say it's time to strike first.

@@daniel-zh9nj6yn6y Brother, don't even wait that long. First, don't be that close. Two, again, if you two are that heated...... YOU create space and IF he continues to press forward ...... ASSUME he wants to hit you and go preemptive on him. But in such a stance, that's a look of trying to remain calm and ease the tension as well as protecting yourself. And yes, at that close of a range ...... you'd have to be INCREDIBLY ready to get yours off. Yes, in the streets it's typically those wild haymakers and Head hunters that show what they are gonna do just by body position. Create the space so it becomes more apparent what is likely to take place and .......... reaction is everything
