There's a freshwater lake up the road from me that has a bay on it about 50mtrs wide with a little beach at either side. For a main set I'll do 20 or so sprints/starts back and forth. Then I feed the ducks and fish when I'm done, it's a beautiful spot.
I spend my summers at Indian Lake in the U.P of Michigan...amazing spring fed and sandy bottom lake to train in! (Just HAVE to wear a swimming buoy so the occasional boat and jet ski sees me!!) Spoiled b/c now that summer is over, I have to head to the local Y to train. 4 weeks to go! (2nd Columbus Triathlon for me)
Love the swim videos, more please! Having done only pool swimming in the past, getting into open water this year has been a really hard transition in terms of training so thanks for the quick tips and sessions. Some of the things I’ve tried are: use a tempo trainer (beeper) to help with long distance rhythm, tune up the bilateral breathing, learning how to physically relax to keep an efficient movement, body and head roll control to avoid dizzy spells when exiting long swims, consistent pacing with a watch to avoid blowing up too early. Some lakes have a line of bouys so you could pyramid a course by swimming hard to the close bouy, smooth back, hard to the second bouy, smooth back, hard to the far bouy, smooth back.
Intervals in open water means 1min flat out everytime i see a stingray 2min if its the great big bat ray i see sometimes...never complain about my coucil rates coz that shark net keeps the big fish with teeth out!
Can I give this a double thumbs up? 👍🏼👍🏼 completed only my third session on Monday and took me a good lap to get going but once going, loved it! Completed 4 laps and felt epic!
Hot drinks don’t actually help increase body temp in any significant way, Calories do, paired with hydration. So tea with honey will, but just tea won’t do much real for your core body temp.
Hey GTN guys! Could you please do a video on where to find a coach and how to know if you need one! I’ve seen your videos on how to do training blocks and I’m just starting training. Would it be better to get a coach for now or just jump into a training block?
