As someone who has gone through Old Irish as well, this was really interesting to watch! I did not go the flashcards route, so seeing how you split the vocab into different parts was an interesting insight.
Well, I did the Celtic Bachelor so it was forced upon me, but it was a nice challenge that made it clear imediately in block 1 that I would be having a good time during my studies. I prefer Welsh though, which is like Old Irish but without stemclasses and no prototonic/deuterotonic distinction in the verbs, which although fun, make Old Irish soooo difficult to grasp
I’m glad to see your videos again, it’s a rich and fun experience! I could see how much you struggled to pass these courses 😂 I absolutely love to see a video in Swedish, I’ve learned some basics here and there but it’s a little bit hard and it has a differentand weird pronunciation but at the end of the day it’s not an old Irish at least 😂😂
hahaha thank you for watching my video again, I appreciate it! What did you think of studying Swedish? I have never tried it before nor do I think I have even heard it before (oops) :)
I am studying modern Irish (not very far yet) and I’m wondering if Old Irish is very different? What made you interested in Old Irish as opposed to modern?
@PumpkinMozie Oh that is great! Which resources are you using for learning Modern Irish? My University is one of the only ones who has an entire Celtic bachelor. Learning Old Irish is one of the first courses. As I am studying English Lit in a historical perspective, I thought it to be great to know some old languages too (old english, welsh etc). I want to use this knowledge to be able to read manuscripts later on in my studies! :)
Hi! Mostly grammer focussed during block 1, and translations in block 2. It takes quite some skill to be able to translate such old texts, so I really struggled with that! Plus, it all went super fast. 6 hours of class a week wasn't even enough for me, I need more time to be able to fully understand this.
