I’m 24 years old and have 8 mid to large projects at the moment. Just enjoy your work and don’t worry about the money. Work will come, company growth will occur so long as you put your head into the work and strive to offer the best service in the industry. Architecture is about leaving a Legacy.
Hi Dave desai...am an architect student am gonna graduate this year this year, am only left with one semester....I would love to contact and talk to you and ask you for some advice if you are willing
I am a 3rd year architecture student and I became inspired towards architecture when I was around your age. Are you prepared for how hard it is to succeed? My first year class was 175 students strong and now after completing 2 years we are down to less than 50 students. The graduating 5th years only had 22 kids finish. Many of the professors will do everything in their power to put you down and make you feel like you can't make it. Even if you work ahead of the class the professor will simply make you redo work to make slight improvements. To be a successful architect, you must be an extremely hard working optimistic masochist. Be prepared to have either no friends outside of studio or be prepared to barely pass if you do. My dad has a highschool friend of his who is getting ready to retire, and calculated based on the number of projects× the number of hours in each project he worked on average 60 hours a week his whole life. If I had known it would be like this, I would not have gone into architecture.
You will be depending on your parents for many years after you get out of school as it is a slow building career. Remember how he referred to 30 year olds as being very young, unseasoned architects. I will be done with school by the time I am 23 and it is scary to think it will be another 7 years after that before I will start to get any traction in the industry. If you are a woman you also have to think that you will not be able to have children until you have established yourself as an architect (around age 35) unless you want to see your career go right out the window.
@ruslana shisha Because it's the conclusion I've come up with. I keep coming back to being positive because of minor victories, but the downsides are soul crushing. I could make more as a construction manager for 1/3 work load. I just want to be able to leave work to get married and have children without it ruining my career. I want to have a social life. I've been outcast by my peers, and I hate the countless hours of working alone with no one to turn to for help.
@ruslana shisha just what I've heard from people in the industry. Most people are not a Bjarke Ingles or a Zaha Hadid. To be a starchitect you have to devote your everything to architecture and be gifted as well. Most people will spend much of their career detailing other people's designs, and it takes forever to be successful enough to actually make a worthwhile income.
@ruslana shisha Btw, I want to say thank you for the encouragement. I do believe I am quite talented but at the end of the day there are always people better than you. Also like I said, it really sucks once all of your friends are kicked out of the program. Like I still have acquaintances, but everyone has someone else that they are closer with, so I'm kinda just the odd ball out. I get shoehorned in with random people whenever there is a group assignment, so I'm either out of the loop or the one doing all the work. It just really sucks to not have anyone you feel like you could turn to.
I am in my second year of high school and in September I will be in my third year until then I would really like to look into my future. I have thought about architecture for months and I think it's really great for me i think domestic and industrial architecture really pays off as it provides alot of projects
I am currently 16 and just graduated high school. I did technical drawing in school so I'm pretty familiar on how to use autocad to create floor plans elevations and so on, i even decided to start doing tutorials, inspite of all that i am still not sure if i'll be able to make it in the industry.😔

Is freelancing good for young Architects? Is it safe to start up an architecture firm at a young age? And what are the basic experiences and knowledges that you think a young start up architect must have? My name is Sajith Chandra I'm an architect from India,I'm 26 year old I have only 2 years of experience. And I'm wondering would it be a problem if I start up my own architecture practice at this young age!!
I am 18 years old currently living in the Philippines. I always dreamed of designing houses but during my senior year in highschool,my life got a little bit of twist.Firstly I got the opportunity of studying in Australia.I was accepted on one of the top school but not in the course that I always dreamed of which is the architecture. Regardless I still pushed it through.Unfortunately I was not granted with student visa due to some complications. Tbh I'm actually happy that event happen because I can now pursue architect on one of the top schools in my home country. The only downside is that I lost 1 year of my life that I'm supposed to be studying and for asian people that sucks. Regardless of all of that I'm still determined to become licensed architect. I just wish that life would allow me that. Wish me luck for my upcoming college life.
Sir! Can i have a contact with you? Like in facebook because im taking architecture right now, can you please help me sir? Im a freshmen architecture student.
I am 17 This is my final year at school, it is my childhood dream to become an architect and on the other hand I am really shy of meeting new people and also have no confidence in myself . But yet I want to become an architect. My mom says if you are life this you are not gonna be an architect. Is there anything that I can do to become a perfect architect?
U need to consult a chancellor to help build your confidence.Confidence is one of d main keys to success. The more confident you are,d more successful u become in life
I'm 31, and I am planning to enroll Arch degree. Do you think I'm too old to be starting a career as an architect? I mean by the time I finish my degree I'll be 36 then 38 by time I can practice on my own/be licensed so that leaves 3 years where I'll be interning probably for people younger than me??
rah leigh.. Please first belive yourself... Set gole before you go to study this architecture. Make a study chart... Work for your goal project... Goal must be a heigh end. When your goal is low rated by yourself it will change your life into lower than your current life. So be prepared for for goal and make a aim on this mind goal
its never too late! In architecture school, I had a classmate who worked as a structural engineer and enrolled in architecture school at 42. Now he co-owns an architectural firm with one of our previous mentors in college :)
I suggest you start planning your timeline. I think since we're starting a little late we will have to start putting on the field of practice in the timeline. Say internship during summer breaks and all that. Nothing is impossible as long as you keep your mind at it.
Im 20 years old and im getting my certificate in 2 months and im nervous because i feel like im forgetting everything i learned can anyone tell me some tips for my first day or what to expect? Thank you
I think architecture is amazing but I'm not sure the wasted years is worth it. Like you don't even get as many benefits for that many years. I've been taking architecture classes but I'm starting to think it's not worth the it because of the years like 5-8 that's just wow
I'm 19 years old and I'm just Finish secondary School I Want To Be An Architecture but My Mather Disagree By It She Talk You Must Be A Doctor We Always Spar What Shall I Do
I wanna be an architecture by the age of 12, I don't care what ppl think abt me, I'm gonna prove ppls that it doesn't mean that I'm yong I can't succeed on my own
