Taking a plumbing pre-apprenticeship course. Math assessment is tomorrow, been going back to this and making sure everything is sticking. Thanks so much for this great vid!
It was different but the core elements were similar. Do more research than just this video but this video was great. I did pass it. Good luck!!@@remmy7496
Today is Feb 15, 2023. Applied to Local 467 and did my Math Aptitude Test today. Passed with 41/50 questions. It was a mix of Addiction, Subtraction, Multiplication, Division, and Most Importantly, Fractions. Study real hard on those fractions. It also asks for what type of tools are used in certain trades so make sure you look into that too. My interview is scheduled 3-4 weeks from now. Anybody have any questions let me know. And yes they gave us calculators too. Wish y’all the best of luck.
Hey bro could I email you and ask you some questions? I just got my apprentice card today and will be calling tomorrow to set up my second half of application.
@@karimnasser8480 I’m actually in the union now. Friday was my very first day of my apprenticeship! Tmr will be my 2nd. But the interview was a piece of cake. Just make sure that you look excited and have really good critical thinking skills. Don’t take too long on the answers and make sure the answers are what they are looking for.
Hell ya! This video helped me out applied for the Local Plu68 in Houston. Just took the math test and got a 95!! Mines was 25 questions, filled with adding, subtracting, multiplying with mixed fractions, adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing decimals.
When was the appt for your test? How long after the results did you receive the letter of approval? Was this for United Association? I currently finished my application with them and I’m setting up my date to take the test. Was this video very similar to the test you took? I’m trying to study & hopefully pass the test with a good score.
I'm starting my apprenticeship in a week and I found this very useful. I don't plan on going union as I sit right now but this is just helpful as an entry to the field period. thank you man
I wish you could show us how to solve some of the problems without the calculator and write them out. Some of us can't use calculators during the test which makes it even more harder. But i appreciate the video
Thank you so much for this video! I hope this sample test is somewhat similar to mine that is coming up next month because for mine there are no calculators allowed.
Passed two tests on my GED didn’t graduate HS because no matter how much I did they failed me, they do with children who have an IEP. Anyway the last two tests I have is Math and Science. I already failed the math twice and have one chance on it, I failed science left and have two tries left. I scheduled a test for the 28th of this month. And now seeing this I realize I will never get into the Union as a plumber. That’s all I wanted to do. But I’m literally retarted when it comes to math. I can’t even do the simplest addition or subtractions without having to count on my fingers. So good luck to anybody that can do this and get it done. Lemme know how it is being a union plumber or welder, pipe fitter, boilermaker. Good luck. I’m out.
Most of the unions are highly selective, they make it sound like they have all these spots but its not true.Maybe start by being a helper with non union and get in later
Thank you for this video and link. I'm preparing to write the test to join the plumbers union here In Canada. How similar do you think the tests will be?
Is this the study guide for the test for apprenticeships? I am going to apply for the plumbing union near the end of September, need to brush up my math skills so I will use this if it helps :D
@@Whyyoumadcuz__ keep calling them or stop by. If you know most of the material, you might be alright. If you are having a hard time getting it or studying a tutor always helps and can never hurt. Better to be over prepared then mess it up.
@@topsaw Definitley . My cousin works for hvac side . He told me most people dont past first time. its usually second or third time taking test. but i was gonna also apply to heavy equipment aswell .
I had a question on 9 ,10 and 45. For 9 and 10 do u have to put the remainder in the answer like for 10 I got 11.02r60 or do u just leave it as 11.02. For 45 do u leave it 2140.875 or do u round it up to 2140.88 that for all the help really appreciate it
@@topsawI passed but I still wasn’t selected for the union because I didn’t have experience… but I thought that was the whole point of an apprenticeship; to go to school and work for 5 years and become a journeyman/plumber pipefitter
Freddy Morales yes I took it and failed the first time cause I didn’t have no study guide or any source but yes it’s 50 questions and very similar to this.
Speak with your local and see if they have any materials. Have a notebook out and do a ton of practice problems on your own and check them against correct solutions. Good luck
@@topsaw yes mate, if u have some sort of skill at least u will be valued and respected at work. Gone are those days when employers used to respect general laborers too. In Canada times are hard.
Sorry to hear it, I logged in on another account and it played. Not sure what the problem is, I'll try and figure it out. Thank you for letting me know
Antonio Trujillo but I bet similar. Of course it won’t be the same. This is just a “sample”test. This sample just gives you and ideas and the video just explains on how to break down and solve the questions.
I had watched this video so many times and I still not learning anything maybe because I never had geometry class. I have my plumbing test today and I’m not feeling confident on passing. I feel like when it gets to geometry and quarts in all that I get lost. Like I know basic math and I’m still trying to find out how you get those answers.
@@eduardomartinezmedina1732 yes bro it was for me. I got stuck with the word problems. Lots of questions with decimals hardly any fraction problems. Not multiple choice so you have to show your work.
Hey I am having a hard time calculating simple fractions in my head.. 10 7/8" - 4 3/4". Any suggestions? I've also done these problems like division problems that have decimals and forget where to put them?
Maybe try to run it in your head for a few minutes every day. Start with paper in front of you and write out the common denominator. Once you get it down on paper, try doing in mentally. It doesn't need to be alot of time just repeated every day for a few minutes
Multiply the numerator and the denominator of the smaller fraction, in this case 3/4, so that you can get the lowest common denominator, in this case it would be the denominator of the larger fraction, 7/8. So you multiply 3/4 by 2 on both sides. 3*2 and 4*2 giving you 6/8. Now that the smaller fraction matches the larger fraction you simply subtract the whole numbers 10-4=6 and subtract the numerator of both fractions 7-6=1. The denominator stays as 8 so your fraction is 1/8 and you're final answer is 6 1/8.
You can buy a practice exam at the office when you go apply initially. They will give you a date for the exam usually a few months after applying it costs 10 dollars or so. It's almost identical to the real test.
Is the only exam they make you take a math exam or is there other portions for the union i want to apply for they make you take sequential testing (dont know what that is) and then a 3rd party Joint Apprenticeship Training Assessment Test
I hear you, however many folks can do quick calculations in the field. The reason it is important is that you can check the calculator with quick mental calculations and not blow something up. If all you use is a calculator you can't use common sense to see if it makes sense or not.
