Agreed, if the current is stronger than the wind, paddle against the current. Basically you should always do the harder leg first 🤙🏼

@blueplanetsurf
@blueplanetsurf 10 лет назад
shoulder width, at the center of the board's volume, usually on either side of the handle but you can experiment with the trim. If the board trims well, the board should be flat in the water and have a clean release at the tail with water releasing right off the edge of the board. It the tail is underwater, move forward to reduce drag, if your tail is sticking up off the water, move back until the tail just kisses the surface of the water.

Hi there. What ia the volumen in litres recomended for a 93 kgs guy?. Nice video iiii
@blueplanetsurf
@blueplanetsurf 10 лет назад
Francisco Romero For beginners, we recommend your body weight in kg= liters x 2 or approximately 180 liters volume for your weight. For racing and touring you can go with a higher volume. As you improve you can gradually lower the volume of the boards you use as a lower volume board will generally surf better but will be harder to balance on and control. One liter of volume displaces one liter of water and therefore creates one kg of lift, so one liter will float one kg of weight. Expert SUP surfers can use a board volume as low as their body weight plus about 10% or about 105 liters for your weight but at this volume the board will barely float you. Some pros even use boards that don't float them if they stop paddling, with the volume in liters slightly less than their body weight plus board and equipment weight in kg.

@molepitbikes 10 лет назад
Ok thank very much. I'm testing some sups but all are less than 150 litres...

blueplanetsurf , thanks! At 350 lbs and the size of a pro football player, I think I'm going to put the paddle board in my oval shaped pool first, and practice getting on and off it, before I even bring it down to the bay!
@blueplanetsurf
@blueplanetsurf 7 лет назад
Hi Al, I don't recommend that, if you fall in a pool close to the edge you could hit your head and seriously injure yourself. Better to find some calm, shallow water for your first try and make sure to get a board that is big enough for you, I recommend over 300L volume and over 38" wide for you. This model could work: blueplanetsurf.com/products/112-x-40-sumo-2017/

can sup on my knees no problem but i stuck at standing. im starting to wonder if using an inflatable SUP for your first sup makes it harder
@scaledcomputer5175
@scaledcomputer5175 9 лет назад
I have only started a week ago myself and also an starting on an inflatable. I did have some trouble standing up as well at first. First thing is definitely inflate your sup up near its max, around here the water is still cold so after its in the water for awhile it does lose some pressure as it cools off. I only went up to 12psi out of 15psi, and when I came back in it was down to 10-9. Softer seems to be harder to stand on because it shakes a bit more when your moving(nose flapping up and down). Second thing flat water with little to no current is good for learning. When I trying to stand in water that was mostly flat but had a current, I keep finding that even when I get to my feet, I found myself drifting and getting close to something then panic and fall. After all that the next time on flat water and inflating up to the max it said(15psi for mine) I didn't have nearly as much trouble.
@blueplanetsurf
@blueplanetsurf 9 лет назад
Beach Life You should inflate your board to at least 15 psi. A thicker inflatable is more rigid, that helps too (4" thick boards can be quite flexible, even when fully inflated). The most important aspect for side to side balance, even on an inflatable, os the width. If you are struggling, you may need a wider board. Always demo first if possible before buying. Aloha!
@DADDY557
@DADDY557 8 лет назад
@DaveDesrochers & Beach Life, you guys started with inflatable, do you guys still use it often after a year?? or now you prefer rigid boards?? any other comments to someone trying to decide between the two? (already watch many youtube videos on it, just want someone's opinion)
@scaledcomputer5175
@scaledcomputer5175 8 лет назад
The primary reason I started on an inflatable is due to the fact that while I'm in college I'm living out of smaller apartments and just do not have the room to store a rigid board. Having used both I do say I prefer a rigid board. Don't have to spend 15 minutes setting it up or taking it down, a bit more glide on the water and I find I can do pivot turns easier on a rigid board(which is useful on smaller rivers). That being said, if your just looking for some fun the differences between a rigid and quality inflatable are small. When travelling I still use the inflatable all the time since its easier to transport. Both will work just fine with almost no difference for recreation, but I generally prefer a rigid board when I have the means to store and transport one.
@blueplanetsurf
@blueplanetsurf 8 лет назад
Thank you Dave, that sums it up well. Inflatables are great for convenience and travel and work well for cruising but they do have drawbacks compared to hard boards. They work well for flat water cruising but in the surf you give up a lot of performance compared to a well designed hard SUP surfboard.
