Let me be the first. I grew up surfing Manasquan, Bayhead, Lavallette, Seaside Pier, break if very similar NE makes it super choppy NW is beautiful. They're steep wave anytime they're over chest high. But generally speaking the crew you find at these spots are always welcoming. Stay positive, hold your own, and charge every wave as if you'd rip it just as hard as anyone else.... Everyone will cheer you on. Grom or otherwise. Rockaway is a gnarly spot, always peeling, and when you charge the head high barrels everyone's got your back.
Gonna visit from Hawaii in December 1-11… is there gonna be waves? I surf and compete here, was wondering if it’s gonna be worth it to bring my board up with me, Aloha from Hawaii…🤙🏼🤙🏼
Love your comments at the end, really easygoing about relax, it's not Pipeline. (Except on Hurricane Larry on 10 Sept 2021!) Im always working on trying to be more easy going and understanding like you bro. Thanks for the vid, as a transplant to the East coast from Hawaii I really appreciate it.
I love that yo included the boogie boarder at the end ! that's me. lightweight, staying in the shallows enjoying the ride, avoiding the rip LOL :) thankyou for this video seriously
I do remember surfing this break growing up on Long Island, and its kind of fickle but can get epic with the proper conditions. Could be 92nd street and there is another decent break there as well. One thing that hasn't been mentioned about hazards are the rebar poles on the inside from back in the day that could've killed me and thankfully just destroyed my board. Been a while since I have surfed there and hopefully they have been removed. On an outside swell, time the sets and get taken out by the conveyor belt.
Grandmother had a bungalow there in early 50's, we would visit from Bklyn. Very few roads, apartment buildings that I remember. Then in late 60's started surfing Gilgo, Tobay, Long Beach, Atlantic Beach and occasionally out east. But never Rockaway. Miss that experience. Wonder if there is a Surfrider Chapter there that does water testing.
Just came across my ur page… From Honolulu, Hi, I surf and compete here but this December ima visit my sister in Queens from 1-11… Just wanted to know if there is gonna be waves and is it worth it to bring my board… Hope to hear from u, Aloha🤙🏼🤙🏼
