Only 2 minutes into the video, and you've already given me more useful information than all the other videos I watched on youtube. I'm so happy I found your account! Thank you so much. Arigatou gozaimasu c:
This is such an informative and helpful video! I am vegetarian/mostly plant-based and want to travel to Japan one day, so this was amazing to watch! I had no idea about half of these resources 🤗 Thanks so much! 💕
Thank you all so much for watching! Check the description for links to everything we stated above, AS WELL AS a bonus tip😘. Which restaurant that we mentioned made you the most excited? Let us know below!
Domo arigato Chance and Sarah 🙇♀️, so many great tips! We found a little japanese grocery store that we buy vegan groceries and treats from. The owner is teaching us some basic japanese for our trip, how cute right? 😊🥰
Funadeya partnered with Postmates International to bring you overnight meals. For only 3 easy payments of 29.99, you could have a home-cooked meal from Japan!
thanks - very thorough. I am planning a trip this summer, and would normally eat vegetarian, but I wonder if you ever feel like you are not really experiencing the culture in Japan by not eating most of their most popular foods...I assume you can't just plop down at a cool place and order something, however small, on the menu, like you can do in the West....or do you just think you need to forgo some of the experiences....
I believe we talked about that a lot in the video! But even reading the ingredients isn’t good enough sometimes because of the food label laws in Japan, you need to contact the company to make sure they aren’t using bone char processed sugar etc.
I don't ever trust ingredients lists in UK (where I live) or US, as ingredients like lactic acid (50/50 animal derived or not) for example could be used to preserve vegetarian olives. Now I understand it is likely not to include animal products but if it doesn't have any vegan labelling you can never be sure
@@PAndrewsPro If there's a Vegan logo it should be fine. I don't know about other country's food Law but in North America because they have to go through a food inspection agency, they can't claim their products are Vegan or it has this and that ingredients in it. If it's not what they say it is, they would be shut down. Plant based is not always, Vegan it means Vegetarian as well. If it contains regular sugar, it will have Gelatin in the ingredients from Animal bones. Which means it's not a true Vegan process food.
@@static_Tricolor_camry Exactly, I always stick to vegan labelled food as I know its okay, but what I meant and like you pointed out is, just seeing no animal products on the ingredients list (without a vegan label) is not enough. - really good example with gelatin and bone char too!!
Unfortunately, the word vegan is a pretty new concept in Japan and therefore the word isn’t often recognized. Although, I bet it is a lot better now. Another problem is that companies aren’t required to label all ingredients so there could be unlabeled ingredients that aren’t vegan that the only way to know would be to contact the company. But, if you are pretty fluent it would make the conversation a lot easier!
I saw your review on happy cow,it’s definitely you. And it wasn’t supportive at all for Japanese vegan movement. If they lose customers then they would close. Restaurant business is not easy and especially VEGAN in Japan? Oh no you don’t know anything. lots of vegan store is closing. And it was my favorite restaurant you made negative comments. You guys don’t know how expensive to make vegan meals if the store is very strict then. You guys are plant base diet people not vegan.
I don't know who you are, or what you're talking about really. We both have been and still work in vegan restaurants for the past 6 years and have been vegan for over a decade, so we definitely know how expensive vegan food is. And we understand very well about the situation for vegans in Japan too, many of our friends have expressed, many times, how little there is for vegans. Depending on the area, you could have little to no vegan food except for fresh vegetables from the local market! (We talked about this extensively in the video) I'm curious as to what review you are talking about, but I can say that we both are very lenient in reviews for vegan food, I can't think of a time where either of us would say to not go somewhere for vegan food, especially in Japan at an all vegan restaurant. All in all, I have no idea what you're talking about, but your comments are very presumptuous and a bit rude.
