Thank you for this! :-) I'm going through my transition phase now and my hair is definitely in that weird, frizzy limbo...plus I have grays coming in so it's a mess. This gives me hope that "this too shall pass" lol and I appreciate all the great tips on how to handle those weird pieces that just don't want to cooperate! I have a job where I need to look nice and professional and I can't show up to work looking like a wild woman so this really helps - thank you!!! :-)

I've been toying with the idea of trying out CGM for a long time now, and I decided this quarantine situation will be the best time to start, because I don't go out, my hair can be as frizzy and weird looking as it wants. And it sure is, as I have dyed and heat styled it countless times for the last 6-7 years, but with every wash I see a slight improvement, a little bit less frizz, a little more curl, and I just wanted to let you know, that your vids help me soooo much, thank you! I'm so excited for my curly hair journey and I can't wait to see what my hair will look like a year from now! ❤️

The "coiling" curls around your finger and pinning them with a bobby pin used to be called "pin curls" back in the early 1900s. They used bobby pins to form lovely "finger waves" around the face back in the 1920s, and did their whole heads in pin curls to simulate a perm. Your hair is really beautiful.

Me too! It took forever to find her...I have this weird thin, curly, color treated hair. Lots of channels that focus on natural hair are geared for ethnic hair. I'm as pale as they come with dark natural curls that are thin! Lots of products are too heavy for my curls. I've been hearing use argan oil, the next time they say oil is the enemy. So confused.

My hair is not curly, it's like wavy and super frizzy but I have tight curls hiding under the rest of my hair. I have heard that I might have some type of curls/waves but not taking care of it properly has kind of taken them out. I have short hair bleach blonde, super damaged and I have been straightening it since middle school 😭 so it looks terrible without heat but I'm trying to stick to the curly girl method to grow out my hair and hopefully finding my hair type

This is just what I needed! I'm two weeks into the Curly Girl Method and I too have pieces of hair that either won't curl or curl in a "strange" way. I've been tucking those pieces away with bobby pins, just so I don't have to keep looking at them. I plan to get my hair trimmed soon by a local curl specialist, because after a fall, winter and cold spring, all of the heat styling I was doing has really damaged by hair. Thank you Susie for being here for gals like me.

Thank you so much for this video! I've been straightening my hair daily for the past 10 years or so, and last week I decided it was finally time to start transitioning to natural hair. It's super daunting, and the frizz/smoothness is frustrating - especially at the top and back of my head, whereas my hair gets super curly near the ends. I'm definitely going to keep these tips in mind!

Your hair is gorgeous. I am starting this week. I got a trim over the weekend. I decided to start with the Deva Curl products first because I felt so overwhelmed by the system and not knowing what's safe and what's not. I have thickish, frizzy waves. My hair gets really really big like it grows out before down. I've always hated my hair so I started flat ironing mine about a year or more ago. I color my hair every 5 weeks....and sadly I will not stop that my hair is completely silver I'm not ready for that yet. 😕 anyway thank you for these videos. I am going to give this a few months and see if I can have beautiful waves like so many of you have.

You should see how beautiful silver curls are! I went grey some years back and have seen enormous strides in the health of my hair and I've also come to love it. I get more compliments on my grey than I ever got when I colored my hair. Once you go grey you'll wonder why in the world you waited so long. They say the hair gets big instead of long due to constant hair loss...mine did the same thing. I lost hair like a dog sheds. Since switching to all natural products I am losing NO hair. Nada. I've also been doing this a little over a month now and have seen an inch of growth to the length, which is unheard of for me...I usually just get top growth or get big hair, but never longer. I wish you well on your hair journey!!!
@Veronica.Roni.V

Thank you!!! You encourage me to think more about going grey. I know it would certainly make my life easier between that and the root touch ups in between...WOW huge pain and so time consuming. Again thank you so much.
@prayerangel1
@prayerangel1 6 лет назад
There is a product, forget what it's called, where you can kind of paint your roots with a rinse instead of a full on coloring, to help you transition your grey. I tried it and it worked well. My hair had blonde highlights and layers, so that all helped also. You know, my boys didn't want me to stop coloring at first, said I was too young to let my hair go grey(42 at the time)but a few years later my middle son was sitting with me out in the sunny yard and looked over, said, "Mom, I'm glad you stopped coloring your hair now. That silver is really pretty in the sunshine." Could have knocked me over with a feather! Now I can't wait until it ALL goes silver.
@Veronica.Roni.V

Mountain Woman I know it's beautiful. When I see other women with silver hair I always think wow that is pretty and different. I just have some block about taking the plunge. My hair started turning in my 30's and by 40 it was full blown lol. It sure would save me a lot of time and effort to just go for it. Time is precious and I spend too much time doing things to be the best me i can ....gets old I tell you!! My hair is black so the silver is extremely obvious but I will make a note of root stuff you are talking about. That would make it a little easier. Thanks so much 😊

Curly Susie how much time? Lol! It's been 20 months. The very front is basically straight. My waves don't even start until 4-5 inches from my crown. Only the back starts at 1-2 inches down and is very wavy and curly. Honestly it's like I have 2 separate heads of hair. For me I think this is as good as it gets. The sides are getting curls, but like I said the top of my hair is straight. And it's what frustrates me the most. Because everyone I follow the waves and curls start at their crown and I love the volume they have. I appreciate your response and encouragement! 😘

Ok, well if it’s been 20 months then maybe you have to make a decision. Do you want to leave it as is, or do you want to find a way to style the top layers to look more like the underside?? I'm so excited I found your channel! My hair and I have had a complicated relationship my whole life, but not because I wanted it to be straight, I really wanted it to figure things out and be its curly/wavy self! I had a terrible experience a few years back trying the no-poo, baking soda/ACV method. I stuck it out for ten weeks while everyone online told me it would normalize and be amazing, but it never did, and I just couldn't deal with the disgusting heavy oily mess that my scalp and hair became. I'm not easily grossed out, but that experiment did it for me. I'm so worried trying low-poo or co-washing will turn out the same way, with my hair never adjusting and me just feeling grosser and grosser. I'm sure I just haven't figured out the right method for me, and I really want to steer away from products that strip my natural moisture and mimic real hair health, I just don't want to be a grease-ball for months. =( How long should I expect the adjustment to take?

Hi!!! So , my hair is so so dry that I never had a greasy stage but my advice is instead of just co-washing... use a sulphate free shampoo that still lathers every 2nd to 3rd wash & then wean your self off.

This is super helpful! I followed the CG method for a few years, but somehow started using heat regularly for the last year. So, I am transitioning back to my naturally wavy/curly hair and this in-between stage is rough. I almost gave up several times. Love these tips!

My hair is exactly like yours and I totally understand the pain of having those stubborn strands that just refuse to follow the pattern of their brothers and sisters, LOL! Thanks, I've learnt a lot from you. :) Btw, you do look good wearing your hair straight as well, but needless to say that curly hair is just so classic that nothing can replace it. Keep shining!

Before I destroyed my hair and chopped it short when I wore me hair curly I always would curl the straighter wild pieces with a wand. It's still better than curling all of it or flat ironing it. That's also how I would fix my second day hair because I've never had success with refreshes. Lol

So glad to find you Susie! I love how real and down to earth you are and you are funny as heck! I really needed to hear that other people struggle and some solutions cuz I'm new and mah hair is curling from the root and not long like yours and well...its a bit of a mess! I think a lot of us need "permission" to do something with it. You know? So thank you thank you thank you girl! 😊❤️

Omg thank you! My hair is very similar to yours: it doesn't curl on top much so I'm always pinning that back. This gives me hope that in time maybe those sections will learn to curl again

Hi Sister Curlie Susie, Big respect for the videos you make. I straightened my hair from the age of 15-ish until I was 27-ish. I'm 31 now, Only just embracing my curly hair after years of torment over it. I'm loving it, I am plopping and it seems to work well but I do get greys, When I dye it black it doesn't last long (I'm naturally dark so black looks natural) but I don't want to keep dying over and over because I know the chemicals wont help my natural curl xx

I have a question. So I had really curly hair when I was younger but as I grew up it went straight. Now I have some curly baby hairs coming back. After research I believe the reason my hair went straight was because I wasn’t using right products and my hair was getting damaged. So I’ve started doing the curly girl method and after a shower my hair is pretty curly but for some reason as it dries it goes straight. Do you know why?

don't give up! my hair was just like that. Try Cantu curl activator, just a tiny bit, as a little goes a long way. Then use a gel to create a cast. This will train the hair to remember the wave pattern. I'm a few months into the curly girl method and i'm starting to have really nice results!

thank you for admitting to using the curling iron! I am suffering through the most horrible transition phase anyone's ever seen. I'm only a week in and already have cried every day and thought about giving up and flat ironing my hair a zillion times! But I'm hanging in there. Luckily I don't have to leave the house most days. But today I'm just sick of it. I haven't gotten my trim yet, so I'm going to use my curling iron on a few unruly pieces and not feel bad!

This is my hair. Years of heat damage and top layer barely forms a wave right now but the rest is 2c/3A. I get so frustrated and just started this 2 weeks ago. I’ve been pinning my hair for work. This is a helpful and refreshing video. Love the part about “going for it” with the curling iron. On days where I really need to, I curl a couple pieces

@@carolinareaper8089 helloo. Yeah I'm still using it :D I'm not following it 100% (sometimes I brush my hair out when its dry) but I'm following the main guidelines such as no silicone, sulfates, no heat, etc. My hair is soft and its definitely better than it was b4. I get more complements on it now and I'm more confident with my natural pattern :) o and also I've noticed my hair has more volume since starting and it's not as flat on top

Your videos are so helpful! I’m transitioning again (was CG 5 years ago, then whacked it off short) and I have healthy hair even though I’ve been bleaching for a year or so, my ends stay straight because of the dryer and flat iron I used for so long. I am SO READY for my curls to come back!

My hair started curling when I was 21, I didn’t realize it was actually curly lol. I’m 22 now and my hair is so, so frizzy because I’ve been treating it like it was straight still. OMG I totally needed a video like this one! I started three weeks ago and it's going...weird. The worst part is having to choose one look, curly or straight. Davinia - First: what a Pretty name! Second: Hang in there! The trick is to find other things/styles you can do with your curly hair. There's lots of videos here on YT for ideas. Sadly I can only do one thing with my hair - I'm growing out an asymmetrical pixie cut! And I've worn it this way for Years! Talk about "transitioning", Oy! It'll probably take two years before it hits my collarbone. I don't think I'll ever let it get past that though. I Love it short, and easy, and it takes so little product, and not much time at all. But figuring out what to use - now there's the mystery, and the fun part! LOL! Best of luck to you!

Hi Rachel!! Eeeek... just use it as a back up plan, the less heat you use the better. But some days you just gotta do what works. After my first good trim, I didnt "cheat" anymore. hahaha

So to recover the pieces that just wouldn’t curl right especially on a day 2 or 3 of no wash in the transition phase instead of using a curling iron I got some cheap curlformers from Walmart where I mildly dampen the section and leave it on while getting dressed. Revived curls for the day. Would require a little practice to use the curlformer as it can pull if not done properly. This btw never worked if I straightened my hair and tried to get it a bit curly with the curlformers but is a game changer for curly hair and no heat

The longer I follow the method and the healthier/curlier my hair gets... the more I break the rules sometimes. I definitely still don’t use heat often or brush my hair or use silicone & I still co-wash a lot!!!! But I’m not crazy about ingredients lists or worried about curling a few pieces. I also try to use alcohol free products (drying alcohols)
