I recently helped someone set their wahoo up, and we found out he’d been using it for over a year WITHOUT the non drive side axle adapter piece! Frame was carbon too, somehow not cracked, but crazy how it went unnoticed. Thanks for be video, hopefully helps a lot of people set up their trainer correctly 👍
Thanks for this video. After seeing it, decided to buy the required tools and swap out my Campag cassette with Shimano. Much easier than expected and far easier than taking my kickr back to the store for them to do this! Thanks again!
I just got a new kickr move but they wrenched on the free-hub nut too tight; I can't swap for campy; now I have to return it or strip out the nut with vice grips!!! It's not reverse thread there at 1:46 right?
Could you please answer.. If I have direct drive trainer which pre-installed with 11 speed cassette and I have bike with 8 speed.. Can I mount my bike on trainer and use? Atleast for those 8 gears?
Any tips on installing a freehub/cassette compatible with SRAM axs on an older Kickr model (2017)? The adjuster sold by Wahoo is only compatible with the Kickr 18 and up, so those of us with older Kickrs are out of luck....
My friend wants to set up an Elite Zumo trainer for Campag Athena 10 speed. He just so happens to have a spare rear wheel complete with a serviceable hub and cassette. Can he strip the wheel down and use this free hub body or does he need to buy an Elite one?
i got the same Speed cassette (same teeth nrs) for my Kickr and i had to adjust the derailleur in order to be able to shift to the highest gear. this means i would need prob a spacer extra on my bike in order to be able to swicth between trainer and bike without having to adjust the derailleur every time. is there other way? thanks
I have only Campag equipped bikes. Given that Shimano 11-speed and Campag 11-speed cassette spacing Is overall the same, is it necessary to buy the Campagnolo freehub adapter and fit a Campagnolo cassette, rather than just use the Shimano 11-speed cassette that often comes as standard with a new direct drive trainer?
We we would always recommend using the proper freehub and cassette that your groupset needs. You often get into small compatibility issues, even if both seem very similar.
Thanks Alex, most helpful. If I want to use a bike that is set up with an 11-32 and move it over to my Kickr with the factory installed 11-28, do I need to shorten the chain/change cassettes or can I get away with the swap?
I'm currently attempting to put Rival eTap bike on my Kickr Core and am also having gearing issues. I've read that re-indexing is necessary, but that's not going very well. I hope by now you've found a fix. If you have, please share. Thanks
Hi Alex, I have a 10 speed sram running on a kickr core does the same principle apply for this model if so I’ve not sure I’ve had the right set up from the beginning
I swear this video came out a week after I googled a bunch of videos on how to do this, in particular without a chain whip and only a chain! Safe to say my eyeballs are in tact! They nearly popped out trying to do this!
I have just bought my first Kickr Core and a 10-speed cassette as per my specifications for my bike. Will I need a spacer for a 10-speed seeing as Wahoo only sells an 11-speed cassette? And if so, can anyone point me in the direction of where I can get the correct spacer?
Great video. The one question I had was which way to orient the tool with the chain. I set up my Wahoo so it was facing the same direction as yours so I could tell the tool needed to go on the cassette with the curve and notch out part facing up. I don't see the purpose of the curve and the notch on the tool. Maybe you could explain what that does.
