This was really helpful, thanks. One thing that I encountered and others may want to note. Since my original 250GB SSD was running low on space, I'd saved some stuff on the SATA HD (drive D). I didn't disconnect that before running the Lenovo restore process from USB, and I found out after restarting that it wiped my old D drive and made it the primary with the OS installed on the HD instead of the SSD. My PC came with the OS on the SSD so I assumed that's where it would install from the recovery USB. Thankfully nothing major on the drive that I lost - but disappointing that it defaulted to the HD instead of the SSD.

That's a really good thing to point out that I hadn't realized. Thankfully you didn't lose any valuable data, otherwise that could have been a really big problem. Appreciate you dropping this here!

After using this laptop for a while, I have another reason not to use that metal pry tool! I forgot to mention this and honestly forgot about it entirely when making this video as it had been a while since I last opened up a laptop, but a metal pry tool can mark up the plastic case of your laptop! If you're careful it's generally not too bad, but it will mark it up more than any plastic tool would. I sadly marked up my laptop a noticeable amount around one of the side cooling vents. Oh well, you live and you learn. I will definitely be buying some plastic pry tools for next time!

Additionally, one of my family members has this same laptop and decided they wanted to have the same SSD upgrade done. However, they had a regular Windows 11 install USB rather than my special Ventoy install USB and it worked flawlessly for them. So, if you don't want to use the official Lenovo USB (although I would recommend it as it installs the right utilities for controlling this laptop) you can easily do that as long as it is just a regular Windows 10/11 install USB and not an install USB that manages several images with Ventoy. Lesson learned!

Thanks a lot for this video. I really like your delivery, dude. Since I got absolutely the same laptop I appreciate it even more😊. Maybe it's a lot to ask, but if you ever clean the cooling system, could you please make a video about it? It would be very helpful.

I'll surely do a video cleaning the cooling system when it comes time to do that! It's probably getting close to that time now in all honesty, so that might come out pretty soon!

TOP TIP *I Own this model* . When removing the base cover, start at the REAR. I work in the order. . 1) Rear face, about an inch in from the corner, ethernet end. Just a "pop". . 2) Between the USB C And first USB A port. . 3) Start of the vent nearest you. . 4) Just make a gap near the corner (no pop) then run *around* the side 1/2" and light pressure should pop the first side clip. . 5) Repeat 4 on the other side. . Then it's easy. . If you work front to back those side vents are tricky. ....... When refitting. Lay the cover flat. Press the rear edge over the ports first, (light squeeze between the cover and the lid) Work down the sides towards the front. . Easy.

When I upgrade my RAM in my laptop, I don't remove the battery connector. Luckily, this doesn't cause any issues with my device. But it's a lesson that I must note for when I upgrade next my SSD.

It's generally still recommended to remove the battery when you upgrade RAM in a laptop, but I'm glad it hasn't caused you any issues!

There is a video on here to show you what to do if you get the Ventoy error message I will not post a link as I don't know if it is safe to follow the instructions.

I've seen some videos about how to fix that, I'll definitely be giving one a shot here soon

I have the same laptop can you tell me tips to improve battery life Subscribed ❤
@CHWTT
@CHWTT Год назад
Since this laptop is a gaming laptop, getting good battery life can be hard. However, turning off the keyboard backlight, turning on hybrid mode in Lenovo Vantage, and using the Fn + Q keybind to switch the laptop into quiet mode, you can improve the battery life. Also, there is apparently an 80WH battery available for this model that you could swap in, although it won't fit in if you have a 2.5" drive.

@@CHWTT how much your battery last with media consumer and browsing? In day to day usage
@CHWTT
@CHWTT Год назад
I haven't done a super scientific test of this, but I'd say that my battery seems to last about 3.5-4 hours if I'm doing basic browsing and media consumption. Although, it's important to note that my battery is about 3 years old at this point and has degraded a decent bit since it was new.

Why u didn't use the secondary slot?
@CHWTT
@CHWTT Год назад
I chose not to use the secondary slot because I had decided to upgrade my main drive as the old one had been performing pretty terribly. Although, now that you point it out, I could have put the new drive in the second slot, kept the old one, and used them both but using the 770 as the main... That's a good point that you bring to light! I guess my only justification that I have now is that I may buy a 4TB SATA drive someday and put that in. But you're right, and I can't believe I didn't think of that!

@@CHWTT ohh thats great dude..afterall main ssd matters more. btw bro i need ur help.. i wanted to add a ssd in my legion's secondory m.2 slot. can u please suggest a best one for me. i was about to order samsung 980 pro. but got confused between seagate firecuda 530 1 tb
@CHWTT
@CHWTT Год назад
So, the Firecuda 530 and the 980 Pro are both amazing drives. It's important to keep in mind that if your laptop is like mine and has a Ryzen 4000 chip in it, it only supports up to PCIe Gen 3.0 speeds, so by using a Gen 4.0 drive you can only get part of its performance. Therefore, really any good Gen 4 drive will saturate Gen 3 and you'll get all the performance you can. The real important things at this point are the endurance of the drive, the sustained write speeds after all of its cache is used up, and the cost. The Firecuda has over 2x the write endurance of the 980 Pro and slightly higher sustained write speeds after the cache is used up. Depending on what you're doing with the drive, the over 2x increase in endurance may be worth the price hike for you. However, if you're using the drive mainly as a game drive, TBW isn't too important generally. For reference, I've had my desktop computer for about 1.5 years and in that time I've written about 40TB to my main Windows drive, so a 600TBW drive would probably last you quite a while.

You could have just cloned the old m.2 to the new one. Unless there is some reason you want a clean install.
@CHWTT
@CHWTT Год назад
I wanted the clean install because the old install was quite cluttered and it just needed a fresh start

TIP. (From a sevice tech in another industry) Having removed *many* small screws... NEVER trust a magnetic tip. . If there's room (and there normally 😢is) as the screw "clicks" off the last thread, slide your index finger down the shaft of the screwdriver and "pinch" the screw head against the tip of the driver. Even if you sneeze, or twitch, you're much less likely to drop the screw knocking it against something. . Another tip. Sheet of paper. Hole in the centre (1/4"-1/2") Lay it over the area with the screw/ hole exposed. Reduces the chance of an "accident" considerably. . Also. A microfibre towel (light colour) to lay the device on. . When you drop a screw, it will stick..... Not be found under the sofa 6 months later.
@CHWTT

That microfiber towel idea seems actually amazing, I'll have to give that a try some time!
