Fusion 360 is a CAD/CAM package that offers a free Personal Use license, which is perfect for Woodworking Hobbyists. Get started by creating a simple woodworking design with only a handful of Fusion 360's core features.
This wooden side table demo focuses on the sweep command. The sweep command is arguably one of the most used features in any given CAD program. With just a single sweep you'll be able to recreate this wooden side table, with a magazine rack.

Also found that the Selection Priority works best when I select the entire object after orienting it in "plan view". In other words, I select the TOP view from the view cube to look at it from the top and then select it entirely to cover all the edges. this is a fantastic tutorial! really reinforced my knowledge on the sweep command! thanks again!

Hi Kevin -- thanks, this was very useful. Is there a way to unfold an extrude along a path, in the same way you can unfold sheet metal? I've got a bentwood project, but need the flat dimensions/profile for cutting it out before bending.

@ProductDesignOnline
@ProductDesignOnline 5 лет назад
Hi, Eric. Thanks for bringing this up! This is a great topic for its own video (I've added it to the list). There are a couple things that you could do. The easiest thing to do would be to create a 2D drawing (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-L0IwfH-9Fss.html) of the file, at the desired skill. Then, you could print out the PDF or DWG file. Cheers, Kevin :)

@@ericseeleyNK9J Agreed! Fusion 360 definitely has its quirks... hopefully, a lot of them will be worked out in future updates. Cheers, Kevin :)

I would love to see more woodworking, particularly perhaps starting with libraries of common lumber (2x4s) plywood 1/2 and 3/4 inch, standard screw sizes etc. Especially important is altering existing components. finally After about 8 fusion 360 training videos from you and others (you are my fav.) no one ever goes back and changes the size of something after they move on, can you do a video about that? sorry if it already exists. Thanks!

Awesome video. My situation is I'm designing a wooden cage for a breaded dragon. Try to paint you a picture here...It's 5 feet long 6 feet high and 30 inches wide. I have all the 2x4 frame done and all cross bracing. My problem is when I go to draw the plywood on and cut a rectangle out for a window...I'm good...I draw a rectangle 25.4mm bigger than the cutout and extrude it 6.35mm and modify the appearance to glass, I can see thru from the outside of the cage but when I orbit around it shows a solid piece of wood. I'm confused?? I used construction lines to place the cutout and used lines to extrude the window. Oh. One more thing. How is it that two of my 2x4 intersections joined together, but all the other ones did not?? Hope you understand this and thanks for any and all help.

A Comment and Question: Hello, Thanks for the great tutorials. I'm working through the wooden table design. However, I seem to be running into issues when I draw the rectangle profile and align the mid-point of the rectangle to the origin point with a Mid-point Constraint (8:01 in the video). Fusion errors out asking me to revise the constraints or dimensions, no matter how many times I tried! However, I was able to get around it by creating a rectangle floating in space and then using the Midpoint constraint to align the rectangle to the origin as shown in your video. I haven't figure out why constraints behave differently in my environment when compared to your videos. I worked through your other video where you demonstrate each constraint, but I saw that my environment was throwing errors when I tried to reproduce your demo. Is there a setting that I must be changing to influence the behavior of the constraints? thanks, AM
@ProductDesignOnline
@ProductDesignOnline 5 лет назад
Hi Andy. Did you delete the "coincident" constraint (that's automatically applied from using the origin point) before trying to add the midpoint constraint? If you watch at 7:40 you'll see that I select the bottom horizontal line, which shows the coincident constraint applied to the end point of the line and the origin point. I'm guessing it was either that coincident constraint or another constraint that was automatically applied...which would explain why you had no issues when you drew the rectangle in space. Let me know if that was it. If not, I'm happy to take a look at your file to see what else it could be. Cheers, Kevin :)
@AMTheTinkerer
@AMTheTinkerer 5 лет назад
@@ProductDesignOnline Hi Kevin. Yes I did. That is a very significant part of your tutorial. I do see that you click the bottom line and hit delete. But if I do it, the entire line disappears! Therefore, I select the co-incident glyph and hit delete to make it go away. But Fusion doesn't seem to like that. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. Let me review my work again.
