Damn, finally. I've watched dozens of reviews of the Galaxy watch 5 and everyone was using it with a Samsung phone. They always were going like "If you don't pair it with a Samsung phone, you'll be missing some functions". And that was it. They weren't saying anything useful at all. Finally there is a video that explain what is missing on a non Samsung phone. Thank you.

Great video Shane, as always. I used my GW4 on my Surface Duo 2. Glad you pointed out the ECG because that is the big one...another thing that didn't work for me was DO NOT DISTURB syncing. If you have DND on your phone, either by schedule or turning on manually, it doesn't sync with the watch...you also have to activate it on the watch. But other than that, it works great!
Hello Shane. I've been using Surface Duo as my only phone, since it was released in September 2020. Upgraded to the Surface Duo 2 when it was released in October 2021. I've also had a Samsung Galaxy Watch paired with the Duo the entire time. I just upgraded to the Samsung Galaxy Watch5. The watch works great with the Duo. As PrototypeDC and Paulo Lavandeira mention, you can side load the Samsung Health Monitor app on the Duo, so you can utilize the ECG and Blood Pressure components. Pranob Mehrotra and Dante63 provide great instructions on XDA on how to add to a non-Samsung phone. Thank you for all the exceptional Surface Duo content you provide. Your videos have helped to elevate both knowledge and credibility of the Surface Duo as an outstanding option in the mobile marketplace.
Thanks for your helpful and to-the-point videos. Whenever I ran Samsung Health on a non-Samsung phone (Pixels in my case), I found the Samsung Health app drained the battery more than any other app--it was always at the top of the battery list. I had a Watch 5 Pro for a short time and Health was 20% + of battery use for a day.
Great video! Exactly what I was looking for. I have now ordered the watch 5 and I'm very excited. Honestly, I can't bother about the ECG. However, if it was missing something as crucial as HR, I would definitely wouldn't have bought it. But it has everything I need from HR monitoring, all the exercises, sleep, body composition and all the neat features, so that's ideal for me.
Thanks for putting this video together. I just sent back my Pixel Watch and got a Galaxy Watch 5. Getting ready to set it up on my Pixel 7 Pro. Got a heck of a deal ordering the watch on the Samsung website. They gave me $75 bucks for my Apple Series 1 watch and because I had some questions I used the chat and got another $50 bucks off. Ended up paying $187. for the non pro model.
How is it working with a pixel phone? Can you sync your phone alarms to the watch ans snooze/mute from the watch when they ring? I need a watch that does this on my pixel4a
How about the productivity functions of the watch, for those of us who do not care anything about the fitness functions of the watch but are concerned with things like messaging, phone calls and alerts in general from apps etc ... I always get the LTE version so I can use it as a standalone device when needed. I am curious because I believe I am finally switching from a Z Fold to a Pixel Fold. Thank you!
Just bought my Galaxy Watch 5 Pro yesterday. What should I say? I'm super satisfied and at the same time super disappointed. I do love the design, display, form factor, band! Top! BUT I do not have Samsung Phone (Google Pixel 6a) and nobody shared that the WORKING PROFILE DOES NOT WORK WITH NON SAMSUNG PHONES! Bummer!!! :(((((( One of the reasons I bought this watch was to be connected during my work-time, which is 8-10 hours per day. I really need several app's notification to pop up on my wrist while I'm without my phone (such as Google Calendar, Slack, Gmail etc). Unfortunately this is not possible with SGW5 + non Samsung. I was googling a lot and haven't found any adequate solution to this "issue" (probably it's not an issue, but more like Samsung eco feature). So ... now I have 14 days to decide whether I'd return them back to store or get used to the watch without the work ... what a sad story ... @shane Craig, please consider adding this to your review, 'cause you have NOT mentioned it as well ...
I've never used work profiles on any device, honestly wasn't even on my radar. You're right that it wasn't in my review, but there's no way to add something to a RU-vid video after it's been posted.
I'm sure that everyone can appreciate that you pointed out that work profiles don't work. However it looks like you're blaming Shane for not mentioning this in his video. You can't expect one guy to think of everything. And don't forget channels like LTT are basically working on the scale of a medium company. He's got like 80 staff.
Any idea if the Route feature is available on non Samsung phones? I want to use my Pixel 6 with a Watch 5 Pro and really hope to have access to that feature.
I've got a duo 1 and my worry is the Bluetooth connection. Sound cuts on my ear buds if I have my duo in my pocket and I step with the other foot and totally cuts out if I cover my phone with my hand while it's on my pocket which is absolutely ridiculous. Is the duo 2 much better with Bluetooth?
Hey Shane... You can manage the camera app on the watch like a remote control? I can't connect each other. Tel me if you have the same problem.... Can we fix it?
It works fine when connected to a Samsung device, but I must admit I did not test it when connected to another. It might not work that way as it probably requires the Samsung camera app on the phone to work.

I have Huawei nova se 10 and samsung smartwatch gt5.I tried everything and I cant pair.Can you have solution maybe. Its great watch and great phone and I cant pair it 😢
I know this WAY OFF TOPIC... but maybe you or someone in the comments can give me a solution. Ive been unable to Swipe Up to open/clear recent apps. Maybe there is something in my Settings that I could have overlooked. Not to say that this happened from the September update, but It could be a mere coincidence.

I use a Garmin Marq Athlete, for the sole purpose of knowing it will work fully with all my devices, and I'm happy to say with all my android smartphones, OG Duo, galaxy Fold 4, Pixel 6 Pro it works flawlessly 👍🏻
@@scaryifliteral thanks for replying, my husband uses Google pixel so we where wondering if this Watch would work on it, currently he owns a huawei Watch gt3, but here In holland they boycot Chinese tech. So it’s very restricted and many functions don’t work. It’s a shame because they have amazing watches
@@NoOne-xh7ek contact any mobile carrier in your country and read off the imei of the phone, they will provide a sim card to insert linking you to their mobile network for a fee
Samsung galaxy watch and Apple watch are both trash. I got a Huawei GT2 Pro and it doesn't get the nod simply because most RU-vidrs are biased. My GT2 Pro lasts for 1 week before it needs charging. Goodluck with Samsung and Apple.
The world isn't binary black and white. You don't have to go through life being so inflammatory and accusing people of wrongdoing because they didn't echo your exact thoughts. The truth is Huawei is virtually unknown in North America for a variety of reasons and most of us don't buy brands like Huawei.
@@scaryifliteral Huawei was coming up until it was exposed that not just our government was being given our data but the Chinese government was too, then it became a thing of the past for most.
@@scaryifliteral Plus their app store is slim at best. I was eyeing the Huawei GT3 PRO and can't get any of weightlifting apps in there as that's the main reason to getting one. To be able to fill in my reps / weights / rest time etc in my watch instead of having to hunch over my phone all the time at the gym. Huawei GT series look awesome but let's be honest, it's super crippled due to US sanctions.
I had my galaxy watch 4 classic, hooked up to a cheap moto G31, all software features and notifications worked like a charm. Living an active healthy lifestyle, I really wouldn’t want to bring my expensive Samsung phone, with me when mountain biking or kayaking. It’s important that the galaxy watches, can connect to other smartphones especially budget devices.
How does tbe galaxy 4 watch work, and what size did you pick? I have a Poco f4 and I'm thinking of buying a galaxy 4 watch, but I have no idea whats the difference between the 4g one and the blue tooth one, so it would be nice if you could give me the details of the one y bought pretty please! And btw, would the watch work even if I'm far away from my phone (like the fitness options, perhaps even calls etc)
