A channel with a focus on oddball devices and a lean towards Pixel phones.
Ever since I was a kid I have always been far more interested in the stranger pieces of hardware than the ones everyone used. From installing a touch screen into the original Eee PC to loving my Nokia N770 Internet Tablet all the way to the Surface Duo and Folds of today, that has never changed.
Kinda hope this happens because the price will drop on the old ones, and I really want a pixel fold that I can afford. I’m hoping for a discounted price and trade in’s for the old phones.
I bought into the hype and got one. I am returning it today and going back to the firestick. My firestick controls the on/off of my av receiver where this onn box only controls the volume of my av receiver. I could deal with that but every two or three minutes the audio to the programs that I watch would cut out (only for a second). This onn box is not ready for production. I will say that the picture on my LG tv looked a little brighter than with my Firestick. When the Firestick goes to a closed system (unable to side load), I will look for other options or just bite the bullet for an Apple TV box.
In case this confuses anyone, this box is fully capable of controlling the volume of either the box itself or of the TV/whatever it's plugged into. It is also capable of turning off your TV with the power button. The audio thing is not something I've seen while using it for the last week. Could be a defective unit or it could be misbehaving with something with your setup. I have tested it with a receiver running into some large speakers and with a TV outputting over optical.
This is where the new $pensive wireless type cover would be great. PS that's a shit stand not a kick stand. Vesa mounting it means the cables will be in possible pinch mode.
Thanks man awesome review I only wish I were more patient, I it was in my cart and putting in my info when you said you were sponsored an I couldn't be bothered to go back, great review otherwise.
Hold on. The 8a is a very slightly downgraded version of the standard 8, which launched at $800 and you're mad they didn't launch it for $200? I get thinking it's good to wait until a price cut to like $400 or $350, but $200 at launch is silly. Someone might be being audacious, but I'm not sure it's Google.. 😂
It’s such a beautiful phone, I’m glad you were able to get a replacement. I caught your original video and was wondering what the outcome was. Thanks for posting the resolve!😅❤
I got my 8A for free when renewing my contract for 24 months. I thought it was a nice deal. I like most parts of the phone, but some parts are irritating, like the back navigation bottom on the left side. and no gallery app!
@@MarcutsuSpoon yeah, but compared to Samsung Gallery that comes with Samsung phone, Google Photo is a joke in terms of ease of use. I edited a photo, and saved a copy.. no idea where that copy went, on Samsung I would found it in the same folder as the picture I edited, next to it. Google should be the better choice since its their software, but Samsung makes Google feel like beginners in terms of user interface.
5:25 There should be a phone size for everyone whether it's 6.1" or 6.8". I love the 6.8" inch size phone because of the screen size which is excellent for consuming media and for productivity. Another important reason to have a large phone is because the gamers will love to have bigger screen for gaming. And they may not want to carry around two devices all the time to play games but a bigger screen will be excellent for gaming at convenient times (one size catering for multiple purposes). And lastly a bigger screen is awesome for viewing photos & videos for photographers as it enables them to have a clearer perspective of their newly captured photos or videos. So phone makers should provide a variety of phone sizes for the diverse customers needs.
I have a problem with my Pixel Fold flickering. Google basically told me to go to hell, saying they will not replace my Fold and told me to find out how and where to repair it. This is similar to too many complaints about Pixel products in general that I found while looking for a solution. Unfortunately, when you yourself have struggled with them and you see other people are struggling as well, you should stop promoting Pixel devices. When they give a replacement, it's just your right, but it seems Google played it smart to keep you silent, under the umbrella of loyalty.
In what way has Google paid to keep me silent? Did I remove the videos talking about how bad their customer service was? Have I suddenly stopped talking about it? First off, it sucks that your phone is broken and Google isn't helping you. If it's truly not due to your own actions, Google should replace or repair. Period. If you want to say that me reviewing and covering Pixels is "promoting" and I should stop because they've done people dirty with customer service, to avoid being a hypocrite I'd need to also abandon covering Samsung and OnePlus as well. Heck, there are almost zero brands I'd be able to talk about. I'm going to continue covering the good and the bad. Telling people what to look out for how to handle issues as best I know how. I'm going to continue doing my best to speak honestly with people and assume they can run their own lives. No one is paying for my silence, no one is telling me what to say. I PUBLICALLY risked my relation ship with Google over this and I'd do it again. If you think I'm compromised, I can't help that.
First off, your channel is amazing, and the content you provide is truly insightful. I really appreciate how thoroughly you review devices. Maybe I was still shocked when I wrote my earlier reply. However, I think it’s important for you and other tech channels to either stop promoting Pixel products or include a disclaimer about Google's warranty issues. As a customer, if I had known upfront that the warranty might not be reliable, I wouldn't have bought the product. In cases like this, reviews can become misleading if they don't mention that Google might not honor their warranty commitments.
I appreciate that, but like I said before, if you consider what I'm doing here promotion (which I don't) and you think Google's poor customer service means I should stop, I would need to stop covering virtually every OEM because they all do this stuff to people. I review products. I give an honest assessment of the good and the bad. I educate about features, I explain news stories, I give my thoughts on things. I virtually *never* take money to explicitly promote a product and when I do (I think I've done it maybe twice?) I say so in the video. This is why I do not consider my coverage of Pixel devices or any other phone promotional work. Is the side effect of what I do that these devices get seen more? Sure! Do I think that means I'm promoting them? Nope! I dare say I've done more than 99% of people who get Pixel phones sent to them to highlight their shortcomings with regard to customer service. I hope that I've earned people's trust at this point. I'm going to tell what I think is good and what I think is bad and let you decide where to spend your money. I think that's the best I can offer.
Looks good except that you will have to watch ads in You Tube and still have to buy most shows and programs that you really want. OK, we know this is what it really is about.
@@scaryifliteral That is not the scenario I was referring to. It is already possible to do that. (I can appreciate possible use cases there.) However, it is the "pairing" feature I don't quite see the need for. I suspect it may be for regularly used apps, right?
I'm talking about app pairs in my reply. If you have no scenarios wherein you frequently use the same two apps in split screen, this might not be useful to you. Many others do have two such apps though. I've been using two apps for bird identification and tracking that I've been launching in split screen lately. It comes down to your usage.
If the phone is good value it's good value at any price. If the Pixel 8a is bad value it's bad value at any price. Wussup with all the price justification head games?🤷♂️
That makes absolutely zero sense. Think of a phone you think is a good value and then imagine paying a million dollars for it. It's not a good value anymore.
I have my Fold 5. But I keep looking at these videos. And I'm wondering, how much better the Dou2 would be. I'm a truck driver and I constantly use Google maps and earth. To be able to have separate screens. Might be a better option. I'm more concerned with the weak ecosystem, poor performance, low ram and cameras.
I almost bought a pixel fold...im glad i didn't!!! I instead went on ebay and bought 4 galaxy fold 3's and got 2 of them back up to mint condition, then i sold one for what i payed for the 4 and now i have a free fold 3.
i have a pixel 7a is it even worth upgrading .. i could careless about a camera .. i have had my 7a for like idk 8 mth or more now i have used the camera once , that was just to take pictures of a controller i had to have returned to have fixed.
