Thank you very much. The DaVinci Resolve Training manual (Editing) failed to mention that manual syncing takes place in the Media tab. I wasted a half hour looking at Resolve syncing videos until I came upon yours. And thank you also for using the same media.

You sir deserve a medal for the manual approach. Everyone else are either brain damaged or intentionally leave it out of their tutorials.

Awesome video Alex! And thanks for the tip about syncing multiple audio tracks. Good idea about syncing one track manually and then syncing the rest automatically via waveform!

Great video, very well presented. I am a photographer and musician, and do videos of my band. The ability to sync multiple clips to one audio track is fantastic. For jams, I use a DJI Action camera and let it run until the battery runs out, and so if creates a bunch of separated files based on it's 3.8gb max file size. I record the audio on a Zoom H4n with a large card so I just let it run the full 3 hours of a jam and then if I want some songs, I just cut them with a MP3 cutter. I've been using Power Director and sync the audio song by song, but being able to do all the clips against the one Zoom mp3 just worked so well. Again, thanks for the great video.

Awesome video! Currently learning resolve from experience with Avid and this tutorial was really helpful. All of the other tutorials I tried only went as far as showing how to autosync the clips or lining them up physically in the timeline, which might be enough for a simple youtube podcast in a controlled environment but not for any serious editing work. This video on the other hand actually went through how to manually sync them in the media pool and made my job a lot easier. Thank you!

Thanks for covering manual syncing. This is the only method I need. I record myself playing a digital piano. I play with headphones, the sound is recorded to a USB flash drive inserted into the digital piano. Thus, the camcorder has no idea about audio and "hears" nothing. Accordingly, no auto sync will help here. Like many musicians, I need manual syncing. Hopefully this feature is available in the free version.

Very interesting indeed. Thank you. I am a complete beginner and seem to have a video with audio that isn't exactly matching the visual. I haven't altered anything yet it seems to be half a second early or late. As it's the orginal audio that came of the cam and i have not luxury or external audio recordings like you have in this tutorial, i can only unlink the track and move it slightly.. but how do i do this when it's just such little devation (yet effects a dozen clips, which i've recorded in one go); Should i do this manually or is there setting that i can change? Thanks!

Good job explaining, one question tough: Can auto replace audio when you used the camerafile to edit already? I have a timeline full of in camera audios and Id like to change them to the new ones. I can sync them in the media tab no problem, but the replaced audios in the timeline arent synched anymore. Any fix for this? Any other way to speed up me changing the audio to the new ones?

But what if like me you did a zoom recording with separate audio tracks (cause it was an interview style) and the persons audio came out just fine but my audio did not synch up right. I’d zoom in on the time line and adjust to make it right then it would be fine for a minute or two then be out of synch again. The auto synch with wave form did not work at all it couldn’t even analyze it properly. I’d love to hear what you have to say about that.

I want to do a media management to recover disk space, but how can I do it if my synced áudio display no usage data? How can I find out which audio is synchronized with the video and mark it as used so that the file is kept after doing the media managemant?

My biggest issue is that its great that it synce the audio but I wouldnt mind it keeping the old waveform and not replacing it with the other one. also my aling clips is completely greyed out, does each new clip need to be on a seperate track or something?

I am a subscriber. This is a valuable video for me. Maybe the promised Multicam video will be spot on for me. If you like, I’ll tell you what I need. Documented a big machine move. One video taken on a tripod, one on an iPad. No expensive time code devices. In a limited number of clips, there is a duplication of shots from two angles. Great. I would dearly like to do an alignment of clips and use my Speed Editor Multicam keys too! I’m 79, but an EE, so I am aware I’m “looking for everything “. My media pool has many clips, most not duplicated. Does the matching clip function search all clips and put those that match on different tracks? Or, do I have to visually decide which match? If so, what should I do? Yes, I could experiment, but maybe you could reduce the expected pain. Now for the criticisms. Please, I hope they are constructive. You speak too fast. Newbies need time to absorb your teachings. Consider repeating a teaching for us. Keep it simple. Aids relevancy. I think you have a real chance to become one of my go to experts. Thanks for this video, it is unbelievably timely for my documentary.

I have a really strange audio problem that im hoping you might be able to help with. I had audio +video synced correctly, but then my harddrive broke and i had to relink the Videoclip with the Backup drive. Thats all OK. However the AUDIO didnt go in as it should. I can see the original sound placements in the tracks, but its replicated from the videoclips Camera audio and not the extra mics. I've tried removing the link, adding the new sound, autosync from mediapage and it just wont match the Audio to the video clips. Do you have any idea what im doing wrong?

Great information. My big question is how does this work when the external audio drifts over time from the video tracks? I do a lot of hour-long multicam events, and by the end of the event, the external recorder is about a half-frame off from the camera tracks.
@vitalbutinar
@vitalbutinar 2 года назад
How I would go about it is take the audio that drifts and try to convert it into the correct timing and then do the same thing to sync the audio. But audio drift is a huge problem. About a month ago I had a problem when editing a zoom video. Since the zoom audio si not at a compatible bitrate as 25fps video I actually converted the video to the same bitrate as the audio from zoom and then everything aligned fine. Sometimes it's good to look at a problem upside down. ;)

Hey Marcos, thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. What you're wanting to do should be possible. Can I ask are you sing the option to Auto Sync 'Based on Waveform and Append' or just the option to Auto Sync 'Based on Waveform'? You need to make sure that you Append the audio sync so that you get both the first and second tracks synced up. In fact, you should be able to sync both audio tracks to the footage at the same time, if I am not mistaken. Let me know if that helps.

@@AlexCameron-Depiqd sorry i was working when i first saw your reply...i do appreciate you taking the time to respond and willing to help for real...i was actually using the first tab where you open up the waveform and video then find the point where its synced and linked it that way...as of right now i cant seem to right click and do the easy autosync by waveform. . .it gives me an error...so the manual way is what ive been doing. . .but as soon as i go to link another it replaces the initial linked one. . .im sure there is a way you probably know best...im a noob at davinci...

This was a very helpful video. I've used pluraleyes in the past which is also able to correct for audio drift on long recordings. Can Resolve do this now as well?
@JimRobinson-colors
@JimRobinson-colors 3 года назад
Audio drift is still a problem in Resolve - it is of course the cameras that cause audio drift.
@AlexCameron-Depiqd
@AlexCameron-Depiqd 3 года назад
Thanks so much for watching and commenting. As Jim mentions, not at present. Whether this will be added later who knows. That said, I’ve tried doing some longer recordings and they’ve all seemed to be pretty good up to the hour mark. That said, if you do need to adjust you can do this now in Fairlight with Elastic Wave as you can stretch the clips without altering the pitch. This is similar to the Stretch tool in Audition.

Can I remove vocal from song on divance resolve 17?
@AlexCameron-Depiqd
@AlexCameron-Depiqd 3 года назад
If the vocal is already mixed in with the other sound and instrumental then I would say no. I'm sure that it could be done with a lot of time, effort and not solely in Resolve. It'd be a question of whether it would be any good and how much effort and money was burnt in the process. If you can get hold of the original mix with separated audio stems then you'd be good.

Hello, thanks for your work, just went threw an issue today. Documentary, separate audio, synch based on time code. Davinci would only synch one of the 7 chanels given by the sound recorder, all 7 Chanels have the same time code and same length. On precedent job, exact same settings (or I clicked some option I don't remember), Davinci would synch all off the Chanels of a same take (mix down, boom, lavaliers, M & S, and so ) into one single clip with with all the Chanels linked, which is very helpful. I went to check in clip attribute but I could only find one Chanel linked... What did I miss ?

@@AlexCameron-Depiqd Did you ever come up with an answer on this as I too am having an issue. Essentially it'll only let me have 1 Linked audio. I've got two people talking and two separate clips recorded from each mic + camera scratch audio. Whenever I link one, then try to link the other, instead of adding a 2nd Linked Audio it just replaces the first one.

Hi Alex, great video, thank you. I have a question about syncing several clips to a single ProRes file that doesn't have audio. When they telecined the 16mm they bundled several separate takes and scenes onto a single file (ProRes 4444), some files are 30minutes long. That means I have a separate clapper for each scene. How would you solve it. Thanks in advance. John
@AlexCameron-Depiqd
@AlexCameron-Depiqd 2 года назад
Great question, John. So if I’ve understood properly…you have one long master clip with multiple long takes that have separate slates and should in theory be separate clips? Is that right?
@JohnDoggettWilliams
@JohnDoggettWilliams 2 года назад
@@AlexCameron-Depiqd yes that's correct they are.long files. I tried syncing manually as you explained and it worked for one clip but not others, it could do only one clip at a time.
