Always follow your veterinarian's instruction!
Wrex is unfortunately in liver failure and has stopped eating. He needs to eat in order to get better which is why Dr. Molitor has requested that he is syringe-fed several times a day. Watch as Marissa demonstrates how to properly syringe feed a cat. If you have any questions, please leave a comment below!

I have a cat with both kidney failure and cancer.. it's horrible and today she hardly ate so I'm going to try this tomorrow and hopefully she will have the strength to take it. She is 17 and i know I'm going to lose her soon but she is my pride and joy and I'm not ready

I feel your pain... as my cat (he is one year older than yours) is suffering from the same condition 😢😢, they found cancer in one side of the kidney and also in his lungs... His condition drops too fast...as it only took 2 day from "only eat via syringe, while still drinking water himself" to "refuse to eat and drink" 😭😭. I think it's the time to say goodbye but I'm just not ready. He's been with me for the last 17 years and the time I live with him is longer than anyone else (including my parents) in the world..

My 18 year old pal has chronic kidney disease. We do the sub Q treatment at home for his dehydration issues, but he hasn't much of an appetite. So this evening I tried the syringe method for feeding. He wasn't super happy, but after a couple of days of not eating, I hope my "semi-tough love" will be appreciated. We don't have much human family left, so I hope he doesn't hate us for helping him along. Seems alert, uses his catbox, and drinks water OK. I think I cried more worrying for him than I did for my parents when they became ill and died...Is that odd? Anyway, I dunno, as I get older I get more sensitive to all beings that need extra help. Thanks much for the very instructional video.

I am with you fellow cat lover. I've been dealing with this with my 15 yr old baby too. I've been syringe feeding him through the last couple of years due to lack of appetite. He is diabetic, has pancreatitis and now has ckd so his appetite has been an issue for some time now. We just got his recent bloods and they were pretty bad. All kidney issues. Praying we can have our babies a little longer with a decent quality of life. 🙏❤️

Thank you for posting this. I have a cat who is having a weird reaction to pain meds for pancreatitis so the vet recommended syringe feeding until the meds wear off and he stops hallucinating so it’s so helpful to have a guide!

Wish I saw this sooner. It took 4 feeding sessions with a syringe before I figured out I had to have a clean up rag on hand, I didn't know inserting it on the side of the mouth was the best way to do it. Thank you for this video.

Thanks! It’s so hard to find realistic instructions. My cat has to be wrapped or scruffed for any intervention but your video is helpful.

Okay I’m doing good. Lol my cats got kidney disease and he Wants food but is eating So So SO slowly. I’ve got other cats so I need to get more food in him! Wasn’t sure if I was doing it right, but he acted the same way. Just sorta let me do it. Even went and ate a bit on his own in between.

My cat had her skin stand up and was dehydrated. She was elderly and only approx 1.7kg. In 24 hrs I managed to syringe only 36ml water and approx for ml of supplements. Is that enough. I gave her last squirt before bed and she had an appointment in the morning. She was pts due to tumour. But now I'm worried because I didnt give enough water that she would have felt crap. On top on pain of tumour in her eye.

Hi, I need advice... I am thinking of adopting a cat that had been in serious accident and it seems she will have to be fed only with syringe (for life) and I am kind of scare of that as I do not know anything about it. How many times a day? How long does one feeding take, and will it be a fight/stressful event for both of us? I have no medical experience and worry I could either hurt the cat or it might prove too much for me. Before contacting the shelter it would be great if anyone here could share their experience/advice. Thanks :)

Is there the option for a feeding tube to be permanently placed so you can feed the cat directly into stomach? I'd check that out if it's for life. Syringe feeding by mouth may get tiring for some. I have to syringe feed my cat that was just diagnosed with pancreatitis and stopped eating. I use 2 cans of Fancy Feast canned wet food and 1/4 cup water and blend it in a blender to get it smooth. The mixture comes out to about 190g. I then transfer that to a jar to place in the fridge and scoop out 30g each feeding, which is enough for at least 6 feedings. I microwave the mixture in a small bowl for about 8 seconds, stir it around, then fill 2 15mL syringes with it. A cats stomach will hold about 40-50mL, so I feed about every 2-2.5 hours to give him time to digest his last meal. As far as what your cat needs, just divide the total amount of food they need per day by the amount you want to feed them per meal and that'll give you how many feedings they need. Just give them about 2 hours between feedings to digest the food. If you sit on the floor with the cat between your legs and gently hold its head with the left hand, you can squirt a little about 3mL to the back of the cat's mouth they should swallow it fine. I don't grab my cat by the head and pry open the mouth as in this video. Gently prodding the tip of the syringe at the side of the cat's mouth should be enough to get them to open up. Good luck!

Can you take the plunger out and push the food inside with a popsicle stick?
@JustMe-mn4gr
@JustMe-mn4gr 8 месяцев назад
Yes, then barely insert the plunger and tap it upside down gently on the plunger end to tap the food all the way down to the plunger. THEN you can push the plunger and the whole mass of food will move up to the tip. Neat and easy.

My cat have a kidney problem but he doesn’t like kidney can food even though it's good for him. Could you tell me where can I buy such big food dispenser? Then I can try my best to feed him. Thanks

We purchase these large syringes through our medication supplier. Contact your veterinarian and they will likely have large syringes like this. You probably could order them online as well - look for a 60ml syringe.

What size syringe is that as we're currently unfortunately syringe feeding a cat suffering from FIP....and doing it with the smaller syringes is not working well.

It is so sad to see a cat who cannot feed on its own.

You want to wipe their face because having food smeared all over it will make them miserable and be hard for them to clean themselves.

Where can I get a giant oral syringe like that? I’ve looked on Amazon and I don’t see anything that looks like that.

? No one ever advises if you can re-use the same Syringe by washing it or if you need to use a fresh one each day or feeding.
@misssmith7225

Reuse. 1. Pull apart the syringe. 2. Warm soapy water. 3. Rinse well. 4. Air dry. (2.5. Optional: submerge it in very hot water at the end of rinse to speed up drying.)

You can use the same syringes, just clean them carefully with running water. When they lost their smoothness, it's time to use new ones. You want the food to come out easily and smoothly.
