I can tell you that what Jimmy is saying is absolutely correct. I'm a 5-6 handicapper now, by playing" more conservatively". So yes, put that F'en driver away or just don't bring it along. On any given 18, I use it maybe once or twice by rarely more than that. Only on holes that are "way open" so I can hit the ball with less risk. Back then, I used to play aggressively "trying to make eagles and birdies" but I was a 25 handicap, because I made many 6's, 7's, and 8's because I had to recover more often from a bad shot. Now I play for Par, and guess what, I do get some birdies, probably more than I did when I played aggressively. Now one of my obsessions is to never ever lose a ball. Do not get suckered in by the golf course trying to "go for it"... don't do it unless you have a high likelihood of making the shot. Hit it conservatively to the front of the green if the back has trouble, a chip on the green can be better than a difficult 60' put,, play smart.

I agree this is a good idea for someone who shoots 85-95 regularly, but eventually to become truly competitive you’re going to have to try to score, leaving your longest club in the trunk is not a good way to score more often.

I only use it when it's opened up wide and I'm fairly down the middle but now on par 5's love teeing off with my 4i and still get par and inevitably someone in the group is ob out the gate or in terrible position. One of my friends has been putting his driver away and as I promised, he would should better scores. 8 to 10 strokes better on his last 2 rounds

Nice video and explanation. A friend of mine who shoots in the 70's told me that scoring on the golf coarse doesn't come from the shots you hit, it comes from the decisions you make. Most of us can hit good shots when we aren't trying to "go for it" on every shot. I only knew one speed for the longest time and that was as hard as I could hit it. Now I'm working on slowing it down and learning that it makes a big difference.

On your approach on your 3rd hole, the ball goes further not because of forward spin. It just has less backspin because the ball is much less compressed out of longer grass getting between the ball and the club face. You’re welcome! lol

From the appearance of your course, I now see how and why your game is iron-centric! II would be 7-iron, 7-iron for the first two shots on most of these holes. I do love the low tracking 5-iron shot, something I need to use a bit more when things look a bit dicey. Eliminating my 4 blow-up homes per round will get me to high 80s, easy. Great content my friend.

Great advise Jimmy. Thanks. Where I add up the score is hitting behind the ball on my 2nd &/or 3rd shots. I take my hybrid, 6 iron or 7 iron and hit 2 inches behind the ball not sending the ball far. The next hole I hit those shots perfect then I screw it up again on the following hole. I can keep my tee shot in play.

Great advice!!! Grandpa golf is what I call it and I wish I would started playing it 30 years ago. But oh no back in the day ..... my ego would of had me hitting driver off the tee box on everyone of those holes and I would be 6 over just like you said. Now my golf strategy is to always try to position myself to where I am 110 to 130 yards out and I can hit my favorite iron...PW. I know once I have that in my hands I am on the green 80 (or close to it) percent of the time. To all the golfers out there, just try it. Put the ego away and you will be beating your buddies in no time.

OK, finally got out and played 18 holes after watching your videos, playing the best round I have played since I moved to Tellico Village in Tennessee I admit I haven’t played a lot of golf the last two years because of my addiction to pickle ball, but I went out and shot an 89 for me was an excellent round missing three birdie, putts and four par putts. I have to say the people playing with me even asked me what has changed, and I shared with them the fact that I was watching your videos. I am very encouraged to continue to work on my game with the simple swing thought. I should have easily shot 86 . I only have one question when you bring your arms back and wave to the camera is that your wrist cocking or is that too much to think about. Thank you so much.

Great advice....so many of us overly focus on hitting the "perfect" shot to the detriment of basic common sense course management. The only ques/ difference that I would have is in regard to the short chip shots that you showed. You have mastered your 69 degree wedge. Wouldn't most mid to high handicap golfers have better results keeping the ball lower to the ground and running their chips , when an obstacle (bunker) doesn't need to be covered?

This approach is golf gospel. This is sensible, every man golf. I’m glad he references your playing partners. If you discipline yourself to manage the course you will get lower scores. Another way to think about this is to play for par or bogey. You’re not likely to get birdies unless you are a highly skilled golfer, which we are not.

Fromt the videos I noticed from "normal" lies most of your misses, although slight, are to the right. Do you think this is alignment or the rearward ball position ? My righties seem to result from playing the ball back in my stance.

Sundance theory. Greatest tip ever. For every golfer on the planet. Next time you go to the driving range place the ball tray behind you. Rack each ball one at a time to in front of you. This is what you will see on the T box and fairway when you play. This takes the multiple balls from your sight and takes the nervousness from your warm up. Good luck

If you're fairly confident that the ball is not going left off the tee, then tee up on the right and aim down the left. That way you would have even more fairway to aim into.

The irony is that a lot of golfers hit a ball which curves left to right 7 times out of 10 say they are so inconsistent. They then spend lots of time trying to make ball go straight. Instead of breaking 90 with the curve ball

Great advice. It’s fun to hit the big shots, but they are low percentage. It’s MORE FUN to turn in scores that beat your buddies!

Love the vid Jimmy! Great advice! What might also shave some strokes off your round… You (all golfers!)should have a device that will give you and more precise number to your target. Just sayin…

Very good video, but it would be better if you talked about the distance your dealing with. For example, when you hit the 60 degree, im now wondering how far did you hit that

Jimmy, you need to have a word with the Head Greenskeeper. Those fairways look awfully rough.

I know. His days are limited. The rest of the course is beautiful though.

Ive been trying the "bump" forward method, but I seem to be chunking/fatting the ball a lot. Not sure why, any thoughts?

Play the ball in the back of your stance. Even with your back foot. Also, don't decelerate on the way down.
