It's important to note that these instructions are for the NEW Optima 45, which you can identify because it only has four depth settings. The older, better made Optima 45 is COMPLETELY different inside, with a motor and four gear train driving a cam to set the staple instead of the solenoid hammer like in your video. Unlike the updated version, the older model Optima 45 is longer and has five depth settings instead of four. Unfortunately it appears Swingline redesigned this stapler to reduce manufacturing costs, and it suffers as a result. Case screws and clips are different in number and location on the older model, and it's much more difficult to get to the staple magazine to clear jams.
Yeah, I have the older model and cannot figure out how to unjam it. The stapler slide will slide in and out to refill it but will not slide in once you put staples in it. There is clearly something blocking it but there’s no way I can figure out how to take apart and reassemble all those gears.
Is there a way you can tell me steps of actually taking it apart. I’m stuck now and I don’t quite know how to take it apart after the top and bottom are removed
and how to fix the part that wont come back up when its jammed. I cant get that part up to release the staple tray. I took it apart and still cant fix it
Thanks for the video. I've been waiting for someone to take apart one of these staplers. My Optima 45 electric stapler turns on, but won't 'staple' either manually or electrically, so I wanted to take it apart to see if it something easy to fix, but was struggling with how to take it apart without damaging the unit. Did you take it apart from the top (the black section that you press down on)? or from the bottom or sides? Trying to figure out where to start and what sort of tools I'll need. It looks like one has to spread the sides out beyond the rubber grommets to pop off the sides, is that correct? Any suggestions/advice would be appreciated.
No need to open. Turn the stapler upside down, use a key to bring and keep the staple tray down once this is in place press the sensor with a pen 🖊️ try a couple times
@@ThePerksofTraveling I called the Swingline customer support line today. I told them I had a jammed machine that I could not unjam. They asked me if I still had the receipt. I did. (It was from 13 years ago!) They told me no problem. I just had to send them a copy of the receipt and my mailing/contact info. They're sending me a brand new unit! Can't ask for better support than that!
