I’ve seen hundreds of ball python care guides on RU-vid literally lol this one is thee most accurate thee most professional and thee most correct from a husbandry standpoint point 👍🏽 well done Liam!
I got my first snake 15 years ago but i still watched this entire video. All the information is spot on and well articulated. The best care guide ive watched so far
Wow ! Great information at last, I have almost lost my snake by listening to bad information on RU-vid from people who really don’t know what they are talking about, it’s very reassuring to hear this guy talk so confidently about a subject that he is obviously educated about. Thanks for sharing 👍
Perfect timing! I finally took the plunge and got myself a little girl just a few days ago! She's been an absolute dream so far, but I so appreciate the work you've put in with compiling all this data and making graphs! Even though I've been obsessively researching for months now, being able to visualize all these number ranges is really helpful somehow lol. Keep up with the excellent videos!
I’ve seen so many videos about ball pythons but never felt I had enough information. This video helped me learn SOOO MUCH. Thank you for making it, I’ve not wanted to get one because I felt my knowledge was lacking.
I appreciate that you feed your snake in the enclosure. It drives me nuts when people insist on taking them out … like why??? Thats a great way to get them to regurgitate their meal …
Thanks for the vid! Every ball python care video I’ve seen is a good 3-5 years old. Am happy to see a new one with updated information. (Like uvb) I immediately went and tweaked some things in my snake’s enclosure after watching.
Happy to help! Having a large water bowl on the warm side can help with humidity, also deeper substrate, a humid hide and more frequent spraying. Might need a misting system.
@@ReptilesandResearch ya its easier in my smaller enclosures but the 4footer is tough. I have a large glass baking pan as a water dish, on just the cool side tho. The eco earth substrate i use is at least a few inches deep, took a lotta substrate to get to that point. I have moss and leaves mixed into it too but it keeps drying out. Im about to plug up all the vents in this thing.
Pretty sure this is the most accurate guide for keeping P. regius on YT. Great one. Temperature could get an own video. I don´t know what the standard in UK is, in Germany most people think P. regius needs 28°C for night temperature ^^ No matter how much climate diagrams you show them, they stick on it...
Wow, thanks! Im 100% going to make a temperature guide on its own as well as many others! Lots of plans to help ball pythons get the care they deserve!
Excellent video. I agree entirely regarding enclosure size for young snakes. I recently acquired a very small hog island boa (boa imperator). He's only months old, and had his first feed two days after being introduced into a 4 x 2 x 3ft vivarium - he's making use of all his climbing space, which goes up to full height, and that after several days in transit. More is better!
This is the first time I've seen someone demonstrate what misting their enclosure looks like. I always thought misting the enclosures just meant 2-3 sprays of a squirt bottle.
Thank you so much for this indepth guide! I have been finding a lot of other guides and information I've found on ball pythons to be insufficient or not truly have the snake's best interests in mind. I did have one question pertaining specifically to your opinion when it comes to Albino Ball Pythons. Seeing as they might have worse eyesight/sensitive eyes, would you still try to provide them with UVB? I have a lamp with heating and light, but I have been nervous about including UVB in their enclosure in fear it would make their sight worse. I have struggled to find a conclusive answer on what would be the best option. I'd appreciate any input you have!
What about the tank placement ? Can i put it in my room ? Where i sleep , have loud music play games ? Will it be stressful for the snake? Will they make some sound in the night that will wake me up? Will the tank hold heat if i turn on mu AC ? Does the tank get stinky when they defecate? I'm not willing to sacrifice a whole room for a snake, i want them to be where i can admire them and not lock them in a room and visit them ?
I’ve long suspected “hunger strikes” are the result of feeding too much too often. Common feeding practices have mostly centered around obtaining breeding size as fast as possible. Probably not ideal in the long run. Great info
Mate your on point with this, I'm about to buy a few ball python's and I won't to give them the most natural environment I can. What can of vivarium would you recommend to keep baby snakes for a small time hobby breeder?
Royals? Then id keep the adults in 4x2x2's unless an individual is longer than that. Babies can start in faunariums or smaller tanks. i wouldnt use racks though.
I don't know what the heck to do! I rescued a 3 year old and I know nothing. This person never cleaned her tank and she was without water! I have her now and I am trying to watch all these videos. I put the heat pad under tank. I put the lil red lamp on. I cleaned her poo poo out of substrate. She only has a log, which she is hiding under. What cool things should I add to her tank? Do I mist once a day?? Thx
Amazing content as always. When your Royal goes off food during the winter, how long does it typically last and in what months? My two-year-old Royal has recently done his first food strike (over 30 days), and I was wondering if the fall weather of 60-40 Fahrenheit was contributing.
@@ReptilesandResearch I’ve tried to give my python, Barf, rat scented quail and he was not having it at all. I’ll try again with a feathered quail this time to give a variety
I don't know how much control, if any you have over this but that seems like a lot of ads for a 20 minute video, approximately every 2 minutes, good content as always.
Great job! What a helpful guide that can be given to lots of new ball python owners! Also, I'm so glad you're breaking so much stuff down. Especially the feeding, I see so many new owners fretting because someone told them they need to have "X" sized prey size and it's too small or they have been told by some breeder to feed them the largest size possible, way too often and they'll post something like "my baby is on a hunger strike, should I force feed!?" and post a picture of an absolute unit, sausage snake. LOL
Ideally you should have multiple along the gradient so it goes, humid + cool, humid + average, humid + warm But even I don’t do that and often where I put it can be random
Hi! Thank you for this video :) May I ask you - where are your weaher data came from (website)? I would like to make something similar for my other animals.
I got this pine branch for my gray tree frog. It’s half-rotten, doesn’t smell like pine at all, and has no sap. Do you think it’s safe, or should I throw it out?
Does your baller hang on the lamp guards? I stress immensely because mine hangs on the lamp guards. He has had climbing opportunities since he was tiny string snakelet so he is strong. I was considering making holes to the roof of my new enclosure so I can put the lamps on top of it and he can't hang on to them. He uses branches too but he seems to like the lamp guard. And it's hot, the rock under it is +35°C so I don't think it's the warmth why he does it.
@@ReptilesandResearch The only reason I can think of is the heat. He has sturdy branches that goes up to the ceiling on other parts of the enclosure and he uses those actively too. I feed him sometimes in ground and sometimes I drag the prey on the branches so he can "hunt" so I don't think it's food reasons either. Maybe he is just weird.
