How to Take Epic Landscape Portraits using the MagBeam 

For the daylight shots you would be correct, for the sunset shots you can easily accomplish the same results using a regular speedlight.

Yes I agree, without the more powerful head your not going to be able to place the flash that far away. Although I will bet you can still take a shot with a standard head and and put it far enough it off shot so you don't have to Photoshop the flash and stand out of the image! I have just bought 2 of the 200 watt heads so it will be interesting to see whether they can be placed this far away

Does anyone know if they fixed the issue folks were having with the bare bulb attachment dying on the AD200 /Flashpoint evolv?

Hi VixenBeats thanks so much for watching the video and your comment. While a higher power flash will allow for even more possibilities with the MagBeam, it is not a requirement, even to obtain the images shot in this video. The best part about the MagBeam is that it concentrates the light coming out of your flash into a beam using the fresnel lens on the front of it. That allows for all the light to travel straight ahead rather than quickly disperse in all directions. By sending all the light from the flash in one direction - collimating the light - it causes it to be 2-3x times brighter than your bare flash on your subject. So shots like the one in this video, with the flash at that distance, are entirely possible. In the video here an AD200 was used at times, but only full power when it was still very daylight outside and they were essentially trying to compete with the sunlight with the flash far away. Trevor Dayley Thanks brotha, but I'll still be needing to see the MagBeam produce this kind of result with my own two eyes when I use it my Godox tt685n (from a similar distance), because as I've said before, thus far I've been thoroughly impressed with the MagMod products I've already purchased, but until I see this with my own two eyes I can't believe this one modifier can produce such high power results with a standard flash FROM THAT DISTANCE. #IHav2CThis4Myself😉

I don't know for sure which umbrella bracket that was, but I know MagMod is now using it's new MagShoe to mount all their flashes. It is their new product that just launched that is far better than any other cold shoe bracket on the market. The AD200 comes with a grip/handle that lets you do that.

You could in theory use a reflector in the back, but I see no reason why not

MagMod that's cheating! :) Nah.. I'm just jealous I'm already invested in the Canon RT; Otherwise I'd be all over the AD200. Anyway, that's impressive! I have the beam as well. But I haven't put it through its paces yet. I'm guessing the 600EX's would only do 1/3 of that.

Dan you can easily do the same with a 600. You might have to up your ISO and it woudlnt be as easy in the daylight but for night time it would not have any issues.

Hi Nigel, in the video Timothy is using the AD200, which is a wonderful and powerful pocket flash. The main reason he chose that flash while producing this video is because he knew that much of the production would need to be filmed before sunset so he needed a little more power to compensate for the extra ambient light. What he did here with the AD200 is very much possible with a lower standard power flash (Speedlight) when the sun is lower on the horizon or has set. Check out the Facebook group, #MagMod Community to see more examples of how photographers are using the MagBeam to focus the light into a beam and light their subjects from further away than they typically would. Yes, all up close product shots show regular flash, yet in the field, there is a switch to a flash gun. I feel like it's intentionally misleading, typical marketing. I'm not saying it's a bad product, just highlighting the inconsistency in fliming this ad.

Marcin97 it was certainly not intentional. While I was not there on the shoot I believe Timothy used those AD200's because that is what he uses on his normal shoots. As was mentioned above a regular standard power flash would do great as well with the MagBeam and there are lots of examples of it being used this way. One of my favorite photographers rocking the MagBeam often is Chad Winstead. Be sure to check out his work.
