While I'm watching your video, we're having server weather moving through the Fort Worth and Dallas area. On the other hand, watching you talk about the details that you are explaining and the stars in the back ground, it looks like I could reach out to touch them. Stunning work again chap! so couldn't wait for this vlog to come out, and well, I wasn't disappointed! That final shot was fantastic, the position of the light rays really complemented the image. I had to chuckle at the incoming tide at Llanddwyn, reminded me of an adventure earlier on in the year where I nearly got caught out in the early hours shooting starscapes at St. Cwyfan's Church Cant wait for AstroVlog004 :) Geoff

Great video. I grew up in Holyhead where you took this shot! When I was in my late teens I didn't appreciate North Wales so much, and was more eager to move to the city. Now I live in the Caribbean so quite far! However next time I go to the UK I must go back to Anglesey and try to capture some amazing astrophotography! I don't ever remember seeing the milkyway there!

Llanwyn island. Magical place. I spent an evening there last summer. Fortunate to meet Lee Evans photographer. I also had to wade back. Worth it. One of the best photography times yet.

Oh one more thing! Do you think the Sony A7 S3 will be better than the a7s II? And from what I'm hearing the new Sony a73 is awesome for astrophotography and beating out the a7s II as far as high ISO performance!! I can't wait to get mine! Marvin

I'm so glad to have discovered your channel. Your photos are always stunning. And living in Asia, I haven't heard much about Wales, your videos really opened my eyes, what a beautiful country. Thanks Ben buddy! I use live view, I'll do a demo in an upcoming Vlog. I've just received a filter to test which is designed for perfect focus so I'll use that vid as an excuse to show you how I do it

Thank you for posting this, it really cleared up a lot of questions I had about selfie's at night. One question I do have for you. Do you prefer to take panorama shots vertically or horizontal? I have heard a lot of comments for both.

Thanks a lot. Always portrait orientation if I'm sweeping left to right or right to left. If I'm going up or down then landscape shots.

Brilliant. All round great vlog. Agree with the other comments, your enthusiasm is inspiring to get out and try this for myself. The tide clip was hilarious haha. Aside from the selfie in the vid have you done any astrophotography with the a7sii? Much difference to the canon's final results? (just the image quality, not a brand war lol) Also that tripod is study as a rock, the wind didn't budge it at all!!

Ha Cheers Ryan bud! I'm no brand fanboy don't worry they're all tools to me. Yeah I'm starting to fall in love with the A7SII. It can comfortably go to much highers ISOs than the 6D and you can compose in the dark with Live View which is a game changer for me. Smaller resolution stills but it resolves detail incredibly (the final shot would not have been possible without the Sony, foreground exposure was ISO25,600 and 5 secs shutter speed. Anything longer than 8secs and the light from the lighthouse was coming into the camera, so probably impossible to get with the 6D).

Hi Alyn! Congrats for your nice video and great photos. I just wanted to ask you something regarding the Gary Fong diffuser, which I am also using... I only use the speedlight for nght shots... but don't know anything else about it :) Could you tell me what kind of filters you use to make it warmer and not so intense? Best regards, Carlos

Hi Alyn, Great vlog! I’m planning on visiting South Stacks soon to have a go a Astro Photography. One question I have is that in a few of your videos you expose for about 20s, does this cause the lighthouse beams to become too large ? The image you shot has a relatively small light beam, so didn’t know if this was the natural speed of the lighthouse or you merged two images. Thanks!

Great vid. What software do you use to reduce noise ? Or do you use the canon in camera noise reduction process (I use Lightroom but does only work a small amount before reducing the image quality)

Hey Jerry. Lightroom normally does the trick for me thesedays but I'd advise you to try out NIK Dfine 2. Free software :)

Stephen John thank Stephen. It's been a while since I paid any attention to the entry level market so I'm not sure I'm afraid. My advice would be to save a bit of your budget for a lens though as kit lenses are pretty crap

Hi Alyn, great video, can I ask are you using a wireless flash transmitter to fire the flash/linked to the rear curtain or are you just pressing the test flash button on the flash itself once you are in position and it’s near the end of exposure?

Use Dark Frame Subtraction or try Dust and Scratches filter in Photoshop
