Exactly there’s no way they can test you on sooo many chapters in a text . My test had 50 questions and I totally bombed it because I spent all my time going backwards to study every single thing . My professor said “ anything is fair game on the test which to me is not very helpful “
I know how frustrating it is when professors say that! But I think they say that just in case one question isn’t from their notes. I would really focus on the material they go over in class unless you tried that and the test wasn’t based on anything you went over. I also speak with students who have taken the class before. They help so much gauge how the professor tests. For example just study their notes or read the chapter reviews, things like that help a lot!!
