Machine polishing is known as the “art of detailing.” A skilled detailer can restore paintwork by removing scratches, swirl marks, and defects from clear coat paintwork. Using a machine polisher takes many hours of training and years of practice to master the art. Today in the Detail Garage, Nick restores the shine and reflection of this Hyundai Sonata. In this video, Nick covers the full process on how to remove swirl marks, scratches and scuffs from paintwork using a dual-action polisher and restore the shine. Enjoy the video!

Just a little warning if your car has been ceramic coated it makes it near impossible to get out light scratches with polishing compounds as the coating is so hard they have little effect on the scratch, that's a downside of coatings they don't tell you about, if anyone has any ideas as to what I could do to remove them please let me know.

You guys have literally made me truly appreciate the paint on my m packaged bmw . After your videos I am all about detailing ! I’ve been on your website and ive been trying to find out how i can take my car to you guys to have the paint corrected by you personally, maybe even use my car for a video . I recently had my car re painted and the auto body shop was paid a lot of money, i feel like they cut corners with my paint job or finish.. i just dont have the eyes of a professional to really know, but to me, it doesn’t look right. I took it back and after watching your videos i felt like it needed a wet sand compound buff. I feel like they never did it, just re buffed the car. Is that a normal practice after a new paint job ? Thanks for everything so far! Keep the videos up!

@@ericsands1 a V36 mask is just that, a mask; it will come off over time - the only true way to get rid of scratches (if theyre not incredibly deep) is by buffing them out completely to the next layer of paint with a buffer like he used near the end of the video (or by a re-paint job, but 90% of the time, minimal scratches can be buffed out and isnt worth the hundreds of dollars for a repaint)

@yourboieejake
@yourboieejake 6 лет назад
MF pads are usually used for compounding which is being done here. They will leave slight micro scratches on the paint, while a foam pad will finish out better without those smaller scratches. Typically you compound with micro fiber and polish with foam.

Hi! In this video, Nick used V36 to remove the scratches on the side of the Hyundai. Black Light is a glaze that will fill in minor swirls and scratches, but polishing is the only thing that is going actually remove the scratches. While V36 and a microfiber pad worked on this car, there is no knowing exactly what combination of pad and product will work best on your vehicle. We recommend picking up the whole V Line series sample kit, which I have also linked to you below. Hi Yvette! Start by washing the vehicle with Citrus Wash and Gloss then use a Medium Duty Clay Bar with Clay Luber to thoroughly decontaminate the surface to inspect the paintwork. Machine polishing may be necessary to restore shine, try using a White Hex-Logic Pad and P4 Precision Paint Polish.

I have 2010 maxima I purchased and the owner before me scratched the whole car up I guess he was going to wrap it or plasti dip it but he didn’t have to scratch all the clear coat. My question is can I use a clay bar to buff the scratches out and used a polisher thanks in advance
@ChemicalGuys
@ChemicalGuys 3 года назад
Hey there! Yes, you can use a machine polisher to remove the imperfections from the paint. Before you do, make sure to wash and clay bar the paint before doing so.

I have a question should I wash my car first then clay it or do I clay it then wash it?
@ChemicalGuys
@ChemicalGuys 5 лет назад
Hi Wanda! We recommend washing your car before doing any clay treatment. If you clay bar without washing your car, you will be rubbing the dirt, grime, debris into your paint and causing scratches and swirls. I will link you the Chemical Guys flow chart. What's the difference between glaze and polish
@bansheerider619
@bansheerider619 5 лет назад
glaze has more filling properties to "mask" scratches. Polish has abrasives to remove a layer of clear coat and correct the paint from scratches. If you have time, polishing will actually correct the scratches and is preferred before glazing. Once your paint is scratch free, you can use a glaze to enhance shine. Then use a sealant/wax to protect that shine. Glazing is really an optional step. Many polishes have filling compounds like glaze, and can be the last step before waxing/sealant. Hope that makes sense.

Hi Robert! Glaze will temporarily mask minor imperfections whereas polish will remove them.

@ChemicalGuys
@ChemicalGuys 6 лет назад
Hi Brett, sounds like you're putting too much pressure on the machine. With a Dual Action polisher, you only want to add about 5 pounds of pressure, which is the same as resting one of your hands on top of the polisher. If you put too much weight on a dual action polisher, it will stop spinning at full speed. With a dual action polisher, you can go at a nice slow pace. Thanks for watching, Ben, and make sure to check back later today for a new video upload!
