In this video im showing you how to take surface rust off of wire / spoke / dayton rims, using the same cleaner that we used for the knock offs. Watch the video and see what we do.
I bought Bar keepers friend from Walmart last week and you weren’t kidding that shit is amazing! Like way better than I thought so thanks for the video!
Try mixing baking soda/ lemon juice /water, or limeaway, both work real well on rust removal, if you can get into water use electrolysis, even a tank, fill up with water ,, negative terminal on tank, positive terminal on sacrificial metal inside tank- don't touch tank, connect battery. Lotsa vids on this. Stuff.
Used my own spin on this on the Kelsey Hayes wheels on our 56 Thunderbird. Worked pretty nice! Used an electric leaf blower to get everything dry as fast as I could.
Great video bro... I see your using bar keepers friend... that stuff works great because the main ingredient is oxalic acid ....you can buy it raw on Amazon that works the best....get a big plastic tub put the rims in them mix the oxalic acid with water let them sit overnight scrub a dub dub and it's good as new!!
Nice. I just bought 2 sets of wire wheels 17s and 13s for $200 and they had rust bad and I clean the 13s with SOS pad and it came out fine but still some rust on a few spokes. I only used SOS pad once on the wheels that I try to get the rust off. Then using wire wheels solutions to take the rust off.
Great job in cleaning those rims! Even though you say they just spares? The outer sides chrome looks okay, I would painted the insides gold when it wasn't all that, and I seen others like me,paint the insides other different colors and the rims look amazing!!
To anybody with wire wheels, Allbrite Wire Wheel Acid works pretty good and will make them shine. If really bad might take a few cleans. Once the wheels are cleaned up, the acid makes the chrome really sparkle. I've had some pretty bad looking Dayton's look great again. Once the rust gets really bad, there isn't much hope though other than painting the wheels.
@@dionthomas2969 @Justin De'Anthony Honestly, I'd suggest messaging Dayton Wire Wheels on FB or something and see what they recommend for cleaning gold rims. I don't remember these comments or I would have replied sooner than a year. I feel like the Allbrite acid would be okay if used a few times a year, but would be cautious using it regularly without asking the companies if it is safe. I've sprayed the Allbrite on some gold Dayton's I was trying to get rust off of, but the previous owner painted over the gold, so it was already trashed and I was even using paint stripped on them, that said, I don't recall it damaging the gold that still looked okay, but again, the gold was already pretty faded / scratched up. Otherwise the Allbrite eats the brake dust / grime fairly well. Using brushes and rags on the gold is usually a no no as it will scratch / fade easily. Good luck with it, love the gold wires.
@@williamflores8122 The gold is easy to damage / scratch, maybe try it on a hidden spot in case it damages them. So my experience with the Allbrite cleaner is with chrome.
i got 20s and 22s knock offs,,a professional wheel acid will remove the surface rust effortlessly but they will have to be polished and i reccomend clearcoating afterwards to keep the steel from rusting again...
What a shame the other person let those nice knock offs go like that, I cleaned mine every weekend, they never got really dirty..keeping your ride spotless is part of the hobby..thats what lowriding is to me is a hobby..lost more cleaning and upkeep than cruising.
Hay iv been useing steel whole all my life an thy never gone bad u can only use fine 0000 steel whole. U cant go wroung it works my rims stay shineing real talk im rims arnt scratch or dull thy shinny as helll whole works just only 0000 fine ok homedepo. Or walmart has it truth n godbless
Just used 0000 steel wool on wire wheels yesterday , took all rust off....SHINY!!!!!! Auto parts store recommend to use 0000 super fine too. And a chrome rim spray.
Media blast them then power coat them now there is a chrome powder coat and looks really good the chrome powder coat color or whatever color u want but good cheap way to fix those wheels and u can even fix the bent part easy on a lay
Depends where you live but home depot carrys air craft paint stripper that works great. Just so you know, after taking the paint off the chrome my not be good underneath anymore because it needs to be scuffed up pretty good for paint to stick to chrome.
@@anthonyc9261 after taking all of the old paint off with a paint stripper, wash with degreaser soap, let dry and the. use prep all to remove all of the paint stripper residue that may be left in the nooks and crannys. Sand the wheel very well and began to paint.
@@lowlowsandmore so I started the paint removal process and I have most of the paint off the spokes but it seems I can’t get much progress on the hubs any suggestions as to how I can get the paint off the hubs between the spokes?
The best way to remove those rusts is by d use of coke. Just spray d coke over d rust surface and keep it soak for10 mins. Then scrub with brush and rinse
