*COP* : *'Sir you were just clocked at a high rate of speed, illegally passing other vehicles on the road"* *Ed* : *"no you"* *COP* : *"you're absolutely right, what was i thinking, have a great day"*
Listening to Ed talk a ticket down in person is truly an amazing thing to behold. He is a real silver tongued talker, and the guy you want sitting next to you during an extra legal cross country drive. I’m surprised he didn’t get a Christmas card from the police officers involved. Yes he’s that good.
Sucking up goes a long way. I got out of the vast majority of my tickets by just being polite and respectful, as opposed to being hostile and argumentative.
Or... within two lines that was painted by the manufacturer... thus putting the fault to the manufacturer who painted the lines making it seem thats a speed im obliged to do... liken it to.. well i bought a tape measure it was simply a marking i reached... Your welcome
Cop: “Let me see your ID” Ed: “You don’t need to see my ID” Cop: “We don’t need to see his ID” Ed: “These aren’t the cars you’re looking for” Cop: “These aren’t the cars we’re looking for” Ed: “We can go about our business” Cop: “You can go about your business” Ed: “Move along” Cop: “Move along”
I have actually legit seen this used "This is not the car you're looking for" with the hand wave and everything. Cop ended up laughing super hard and just gave a warning.
I just finished reading How To Win Friends And Influence People recently, and Ed clearly used several rules from the book: he listened, he avoided having an argument, he got the other person to talk about themselves, he complimented them, and he made them feel important. There’s no luck to what happened here, this was all down to Ed’s skill with people, which is by far the most important skill set for anyone to develop.
Sales skills and mentioning that donation rally group for cops really helps. Hes around other car guys with different set of skills that he can learn from
4:05 rule when driving in a group. If an officer is initially on a driver, do not pull over with that driver(unless told to). It makes it worse for everyone.
@@roiberduran3799 when you are alone you will be able to de-escalate the situation quickly. If you are with more than one person then they will most likely think you are up to no good and possibly ticket both of you. Plus more people in the situation poses a bigger threat to one officer.
Ed doesn’t even have a bank account, he just walks into a bank and talks them into just giving him money. Ed’s basically the Chuck Norris of negotiations and influence.
Ed and his boys are the exact type of crew I'd want to cause and escape mischief with. Cool under pressure, has a plan, knows to make a decision and execute, NOW. Treat every situation as being totally normal, expected, and within your rights. When a new plan is needed, execute. When caught, BE NICE, turn the focus onto the person who caught you, get them talking and smiling, waste their time, BE NICE. It's worked for me more times than I can count. Great story, as always Ed! Thank you.
seriously, Ed is the type of man I look up to. Im 32 and trying to be successful in my life and anytime I hear Ed talk, I wonder if someday I can be as articulate and shrewd as he is!
In 1986 ((when the speed limit was 55) I was fortunate enough to get away with a warning in Navada 137 mph in a 55. We were doing an iron but run Spokane Wa. To Las Vegas. I was riding a Honda CbX and was in the lead but by the time the cop let me go I had lost the race.
Ed ‘Shrewd’ Bolian, smooth operator. Let this be a lesson people. Nothing you say to police will EVER ever help you in any way in a court of law. Anything you say can be used against you- but it can never be used FOR you. So your best bet is to keep your mouth shut. Why? Because we are not ALL as smooth as Ed Bolian.
An outlaw is different than a regular criminal. An outlaw is someone who is outside of the law. They aren't protected by a right to jury or any other rights for that matter and anyone who wants to could kill them without any consequences.
As I hear Tom describing watching Ed, I can't help but think of the Italian Job scene where Seth Green is pretending to narrate Jason Statham's conversation with the girl.
I got arrested last night for 120... embarrassing that it was that low but someone in jail next to me for going 97 lol. I couldn’t wait to get out this morning and watch VINWiki! How appropriate is this video! Great story Ed!!!😂
Omg dude are you serious??! I hope you are doing alright. I've gone similar speeds before in certain areas in FL lol but I have since been more careful about it since I got pulled over a couple weeks ago for going 81mph. Everyone else goes that speed in this area but of course I have a loud mustang with orange halo lights so he singled me out.
Jupiter Fox! Yeah dead serious man. I was just cruising in my way home. Wife was mad I left the shop late, Louisville metro undercover got me. Apparently I passed him at 110 and it took him 4 exits to catch me with no lights on. I seen someone coming up behind me I honestly thought they wanted to raise so I got over and seen the lights. I cruise around 90-100 all day long, well not anymore lolz (Easy to do in a E550 Coupe). Had to spend about 9 hours in there. No big deal it was a great life lesson forsure. I’m 23, felt like I needed it to slow my ass down some. I’ve been pulled over 14 times in 6 years .8 tickets. 6 dismissed. I should be fine but if I don’t get a good lawyer I’ll be in trouble Friday on my court date lol. However, my lawyer is fantastic so hopefully he pulls through! Lol
@@TRUdetailing i wish you the best of luck! I always cruised at 90mph to 100mph as well. In fact I'll still do it in short bursts (I got a modded out 2008 Mustang GT so it's not that hard ;) but the way I was pulled over caught me off guard. It was a state trooper that I passed andI thought nothing of it, all cars were going that fast. But 30 seconds later he was blasting down the turnpike with his lights already on well before he was close to me so he can weave through traffic and sure enough he got on my ass and gave me a ticket. Only my second ticket I ever got, my first was a speed trap right outside my own neighborhood 5 years ago. I have been pulled over at least 10 different times but it's usually because the officers just don't like my Mustang or the way I drive lol. Even other state troopers let me off the hook, I guess it depends on the officer. Anyways I'm working on getting this ticket dismissed as well. I feel the same as you, I was regularly going faster and faster and faster and it's easy to become desensitized to the lawful speed. 70mph is really slow but of course everyone needs their revenue to come in so they'll never raise that limit. I'm 25 btw. I'm pretty sure I would be shook if I went to jail... So thats why I asked if you were okay
Jupiter Fox! Dude that’s a crazy story as well!! Yeah when he told me I was getting arrested I was like why are you serious for speeding? And he basically told me he had a feeling if he didn’t take me to jail that I would keep doing it. Which is about half of the truth so to be honest it was a lesson learned. He was a really cool cop after I got talking to him he handcuff me in his front seat in the front and let me keep my car on the side of the road so my mom can come pick it up and call my wife and all that. He actually ordered a brand new C8 from a local dealership lol. His main concern was he just don’t want anybody killed which is totally understandable! Much respect to him. Jail wasn’t as scary as what I thought it was going to be it was just cold as hell and they treat you the same as everyone else there lol. You just have to make the best of the situation and either make friends with what normal people are in there and share stories throughout the night or just go to sleep lol.
Yeah. Small town cops in Utah...well, they don't have much else to do, and through that town, of course you stick out just about as much as Kimmy would.
Mr. E. He said do you know how fast you were going and I said yes 56 and he said what’s the speed limit. I said 40 he said well I got you at 89 and I said what device did you use to measure and basically I complemented him and started talking about football and he didn’t even say anything else about my speed and he said have a good night lol
At the end of the day it's about knowing how to talk to people. Whether a cop or not, if you come to a conversation cool calm and collected, everything will be fine. Great story!
Ed is lawyer material. The way he carefully constructs his sentences involving not so legal activities. And carefully dealing with law enforcement people!
I live in Utah and because it's such an open state most of the police you meet in smaller towns and state parks are really awesome and understanding guys if you're respectful to them and show them you're not some snot nosed hooligan. Love this state.
Love these stories, I’ve only been pulled over a couple times and both times I got a written warning. Both officers said they liked how polite and outgoing I was and it really defused the situation. If you can make a connection with the officer or trooper, it can go a long ways
Wow an impressive 907 k subscribers. I’ve been around for a bit and in less then a year Ed I’m sure your channel has surpassed all expectations. Here’s to 1 million. I’ve always been a car guy. This has opened my addiction up to supercars too. I will own a Lamborghini one day. :-)
People forget Cops are humans too. At the end of the day they’re doing their job. I got pulled over one time for drifting and doing an illegal U turn. Sheriff was so mad had me at gun point and detained me. Started talking with him and I got let go with a warning 🤷🏻♂️ my car wasn’t registered or insured and I had a bit of Ganja in the car too lmao I was just super honest and respectful with him. That’s literally all it takes. People forget that and treat them like crap
Advice! Ed You need to have a group of jeeps take you guys out next time your in Moab Ut its a automotive adventure you will never forget, and you will be awe struck by. I had better luck out there. I may have drove at 105 mph for 21 minutes, and didn't see one cop for 275 miles on the 191, Arizona side, to Moab Ut. with the cruise control on....Maybe... And maybe between flagstaff Az and Moab Ut, I averaged 97 miles an hour at 15.28 mpg, and maybe, just maybe, you inspired me to do that! Thanks Ed.
