The rasp of the "rr" in some parts of the island it's because there were influences from the French and some other European countries. I do the rasp in "arroz" for ex rasp the "rr" and eat out the "z". You could hear these strong nuances and accent in the south like Guayama, P. R. Also the accent it's going to be varied in different parts of the arquipielagus. Happy research!

Puerto Rican here and I agree. My parents regret not teaching me Spanish because I struggled learning it as an adult. I can "hear" it in my head but my pronounciatons are terrible when it comes out of my mouth.....I don't know if I'll ever find that natural wave when I try to speak Spanish.

@DanteVelasquez
@DanteVelasquez 13 дней назад
@@ZulkifliJamil-tq8ix Yes, like in all Latin American countries the Antilles are heavily influenced by indigenous cultures and languages, in our case Taino, as well as the fact that our islands were not in the administrative regions of the Spanish empire so the language developed separately for a time and was influenced more by the southern Spanish accents from Andalusia and the Canary Islands than the Madrid/Toledo variety. In the Antilles we use a lot of words of Taino origin.

- The R's at the end and before consonants are turned into L's. Comer --> comel (to eat) | Cortina --> Coltina (curtain) - The S's are not completely omitted, they are actually aspirated or/and have a slight glottal stop when they are preceded by consonants. I liked the video haha 🤣 keep it up! 👌🏽👌🏽

Interestingly enough, I think Puerto Rican music is the best to learn Spanish from. The accent is so pretty and the accent seems so clear in music. However the Puerto Rican accent is very distinctive. Even among the other Caribbean dialects I find Puerto Rican Spanish to be unique. Growing up, my mom spoke the Colombian dialect and always enunciated every phonetic sound in Spanish. Her Spanish seemed very neutral to me. I am more fascinated with the Spanish accents that have a little bit of character. En hecho, los acentos puertorriqueños y venezolanos son similares. Yo creo que esos acentos son algunos de mis favoritos. Buen video ☺️

@Leo Leon I absolutely don't agree with you at all. Language changes and adapts and always has throughout history. One is not worse than the other and the purpose of language is to communicate. English speakers cut tons of letter sounds off of words. Do we really pronounce the "g" in words like "through" or "thought"? I'm fully aware of some Latinos passing judgement on other dialects, I've heard it my entire life, mostly from older generations. We learn our language from those we grow up with or are surrounded with and I think it's a strength to be able to understand different dialects and ways of speaking. I'd hate for us all to sound the same. I love that I can understand a dialect from Mexico, Argentina, Spain, Colombia or Caribbean Spanish. It's as interesting and as diverse as we Latinos are. One more thought, our current English would be seen as uneducated and vulgar by early speakers of English as we know it. We couldn't even understand the way they spoke now because it has changed so much over time. That's how language works.

@Leo Leon I sense some anger and negativity towards Puerto Ricans and other Caribbean Latinos. The way you spoke so negatively about them and even went out your way to say they are basically uneducated and put emphasis on Afro influences. The fact is Spain is the motherland in terms of the way spanish is spoken and I have a few neighbors that are from Spain and they don't hold such a harsh opinion of Puerto Rican Spanish. In fact they point out similarities because Puerto Rican Spanish that is heavily influenced by canarian spanish from Spain. Mexicans have alot of words and phrases that no other Latinos use and don't understand. I have friends from Columbia and Venezuela and I can understand them like our PR spanish and other Caribbean Spanish in general(Cuban and Dominican). In fact Mexican spanish was the most difficult in the sense of dialect and words used that nobody else uses. My wife is Mexican and I learned alot and appreciate and like alot of the slang and dialects of Mexican spanish. I love and respect all Latinos and we're all brothers and sisters so to speak and were all founded similarly through history. All the best 👍

A little Puertorican history, Puerto Rico was colonized by the Spaniards of Gran Canaria. The name Puerto Rico comes from Gran Canary’s most beautiful beach coast village also named Puerto Rico. Spaniards from Gran Canaria mix the R’s for L’s and lots of other cultural norms from Canaria islands are found in Puertorican culture as well.

Yup and even before the canarians they were southern spaniards who spoke similar and do the thing with the Rs and Ls as well. We also have corsican/french ancestry which is the reason we think some Puerto Ricans pronounce the R like a J. Like Perro = Pejo for example.

You're right about the great influence about the Canary Islands on Puerto Rico including how similar we speak. But, McScuse me?? The name Puerto Rico comes from where?? The place you refer to in Gran Canaria is a resort built in the 60's which was named AFTER the island of Puerto Rico. Like every Puerto Rican knows, when Europeans arrived in the island they named it "San Juan Bautista" Puerto Rico wasn't even in plans. The first city in the island of San Juan Bautista was Caparra (now Guaynabo). They moved the city to where Old San Juan is, and named it Puerto Rico (Rich Port) because all the gold from the new world had to go through that city before being shipped to Spain. Then the island and city swapped name and son on ....

I took Spanish 1-4 in high school to help me feel more comfortable speaking and writing it, and there were some words that translate differently in Puerto Rico than the Spanish we were learning, which was Mexican, so words like "cake", "dessert", "trash can" were different to how I know them. I'd ask my teacher about it (she was Cuban), and she wouldn't know what I was talking about, so I had to teach myself how to use some different words for certain things, which was annoying.

I used to get bullied a lot for using the R’s and S’s to the point where I adapted and spoke more like the other kids rather than how my mom wanted me to speak.

Caio Vancocelos, especially the R. (I call it the "the ugly R"). You won't hear it in a formal conversation of highly educated people or in tv news. It's more like an informal street slang sound. However, in Brazil is a correct way to pronounce the "R". I think this peculiar way to pronounce the R in Latin America exist just in two places: Brazil and Puerto Rico.

Many people tell me I have a Puerto Rican/Dominican accent when I speak . If I were to choose between the two, I definitely favor the PR accent over the other just because I grew up around many Puerto Ricans and most of my friends are Puerto Rican. I also found out I have some Puerto Rican ancestry so I guess that has also motivated me to sound more Rican haha I’m at about the native level at this point, seven years strong teaching myself. 👍Not done though .
