My own teen question cards are now available on etsy since so many of you asked about them. They are inexpensive getting to know you cards, you can find them here: www.etsy.com/shop/TheGratefulTherapist#
Hello 👋 i hope you're safe over there? I hope this year brings happiness prosperity love and peace 💞❤️🕊️all over the world 🙏🌍 I'm originally from Canada currently living in Key West Florida and you where are you from if i may ask?
Fantastic video, I am a counsellor and I always like to educate clients on the flight or fight response. I find getting the client to challenge negative thoughts can be very helpful. Also, to talk to themselves how they would talk to someone they cared about.
I love this. I use the amygdala talk with client’s of all ages. Like you said just change the way we explain it depending on the age. So Glad to hear someone else use this.
Thank you for another helpful video! The "get to know each other" cards were a success, and I can't wait to try out these methods for anxiety. Love the approach.

Love love love your videos. Starting an associate job in teen therapy in a few weeks and I’m listening to everything you’ve put out on teens. You have a clear and caring communication style, Quenby!
It Does. Deep breathing is so helpful but it's so simple that some people disregard it. Slow deep breaths send a message to your brain that there is no danger here. You are calm. You are okay. Thanks Beverly xo Quenby
Hello! I find your videos so helpful..! I really wish to hear your experience on how to help teenagers who struggle with MDD, SI, self harm and specially struggles with self worth issues. Thank you for your time ❤

I know some people will say that they already "try to control their breath" during anxiety. How do you make sure that the deep breaths does not become a coping strategy that maintains anxiety?
I practice the deep breathing with them in my office. A "deep slow breath" would not ever be a coping strategy that maintains anxiety. If they are able to focus on their breath they are out of the anxiety. They are regulating their nervous system with the breathing. When someone is in anxiety, they can only take short, quick breaths. Does that make sense? Quenby
@@thegratefultherapist Thank you. I just showed my daughter this video and it really helped her understand. I took for granted she knew about the fight or flight - she also mentioned breathing makes her more nervous but I agree its like you mentioned because she is taking shallow quick breaths not long slow ones.
Do you have any recommendations for communication? I tell my teen she is smart thinking I am being positive and I think for her it translates to she is failing which increases her anxiety and shame. She does have a therapist but I am looking for any tips that can help me help her.
I am not familiar with therapists in Reno, but you can search in "psychology today" or call your insurance carrier and ask them to refer you to someone who is in your network and works with the issues you need help with. Thanks Quenby

My 19 year old son has an anxiety. This make me so sad to see him like this. We can’t find any therapist in the area ( Orange County, CA) It is almost impossible to make an appointment. Today he is going to work for the first time. He said he doesn’t feel good 🥲. I really don’t know how to help him
I have many teen clients who get physically sick from their anxiety. It's the anxiety, they don't mean to do it. Dont give up on finding a therapist. Get on their waitlists and follow up. It's worth it. Did u watch my anxiety videos?
@@1977fala My 17 year old son has horrible anxiety also. I found NAMI online and it is really helpful. We finally found a therapist, but had to do an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) first, which was great to have if your son gets stuck.
