How to tame your Chameleon

As you can see L always comes to me and sometimes he kind of jumps at my hand.
Ok let's make some things during the day till your chameleon starts to trust you.
First step - Always give food to him in your hand and NEVER put your hand above him because they think you are a threaten to him. And if he doesn't want to eat just let him alone and don´t give food to him until he starts to eating in your hand (don't worry about this because they can handle with 3 or 4 days without eat so it's not like you are killing him to starve. But do not be a extremist and just try this 2 or 3 times per month and never let him without food for 4 days or doing this consecutively).
Second step - Always take him to walking in your home (and keep an eye on him) and if you have some spot where him can take a sunbath he will love it. So make this 3 times per week for 2 or 3 hours or more if you have time.
Third step - NEVER FORCE HIM TO NOTHING (really, this is important guys).
Fourth step - Never get close too fast because this really freak they out.
Fifth step - Have patience (a lot) and treat him with respect because if you don't show respect he will not retribute.
The ideal is having a chameloen with 5 or 7 month because they don't have habits so making a routine will be more easy.
And if you have cats or dogs just don't let they get close or let your chameleon see them, because he will try to hide all day. I know that they can get used to it but everytime I tried with L he just hid all day
And love, don't forget about this too ;)
And don't worry about the last video because he ate too much.
Thank you guys.

Idc what anyone says they are lizard dogs. My veil literally is my best friend, he’s so affectionate & loves to come out, he has never lunged or try to bite & he has maybe hissed. 3 times in 7 months! He is so smart. I take him outside and he absolutely loves it. He’s my buddy we chill together, such a good sweet boy

In a mesh enclosure the humidity can be really hard to maintain so as long as there is enough air circulation (the top of the tank is screen or enough air holes) and you keep the enclosure clean and well ventilated it's perfectly fine to have them in a glass tank. :)

I would suggest an open air cage
@LeMonS531
@LeMonS531 7 лет назад
Michael Skinner no and if your house smells like poop and crickets then you aren't cleaning enough. I've done enough research that open air is best or it can cause problems. I spray my chameleons cage as often as I can and watch the humidity gauge. I also keep a humidifier on during dry months. from all the experts I heard you don't want closed.
@neilljones6801
@neilljones6801 7 лет назад
LeMonS531 yeah cause it can cause Upper respiratory system problems and if your cage smells that bad I feel bad for your chameleon(s) tbh (the last part was for Micheal Skinner by the way)
@somebodyelse9696
@somebodyelse9696 7 лет назад
I think all open air all the time is a bad policy. In some cases it is good to have solid walls to your chameleon enclosure, especially if you live in areas where it is a challenge to maintain humidity and the right temperature. I would agree however that using enclosures with all solid sides is not always the best idea, and to do it because there is a foul smell coming from the cage is not good for a chameleons health, that is just due to bad cleaning habits.
@neilljones6801
@neilljones6801 7 лет назад
Nik Marren no it causes respiratory problems for the chameleon
@somebodyelse9696
@somebodyelse9696 7 лет назад
It will not cause any respiratory issues if there is proper ventilation (means for fresh air to circulate the old air "stale" air out). Respiratory infections occur when bacteria is allowed to reproduce in a humid environment and the reptile breathes that air into their lungs. Having a closed minded "this is the only way it is because other people have said it" attitude will impede our ability to effectively keep chameleons and other animals for that matter. I highly suggest you check out chameleonforums.com, and the podcasts on chameleonbreeder.com. I hope they open up your mind.

This is amazing I can't wait until I get one I know it takes a while for a chameleon to trust someone as well as it trusts you but there's one thing I needa say about the cage and I'm NOT meaning this as a "you're a bad owner" I swear but instead of a glass cage mesh screen cages are much healthier because the glass cages don't give enough air flow and can hurt your chameleons upper respiratory system I'm sorry I just wanted to tell you just in case you didn't know which you probably did and payed a lot for your habitat and for that I'm sorry just had to let that out but back to the video you are one lucky chicken nugget XD I hope I can gain my soon to be chameleons trust as well as yours has with you 😄

For the people saying that the enclosure isnt right,thats not true,glass enclosures usually have vents on its sides and on top of it,which apply the chimney effect,but of course,these enclosures require less misting,or else,respiratory infection occurs

im seriously considering getting a chameleon very soon probably in the next 2 weeks. I think im going to get a male jackson chameleon because those 3 horns are so cool to look at. the question i have though is why do so many people say a glass enclosure is a bad idea and u should buy a open air mesh one instead? i need to make sure i dont get glass if there really is an issue with doing so thanks ahead of time.

There's nothing wrong with glass enclosures as long as they have good ventilation like screen tops and maybe some screening on the front. In glass enclosures it's easier to keep humidity up than in mesh but mesh ones but mesh ones have better ventilation. Glass also keeps heat in better than mesh. I think both are fine as long as you keep those things in mind. If you have glass, make sure it has enough ventilation, if you have mesh keep a closer eye on humidity and heat.

Why isn't he in an open-air enclosure? The glass is bad for him and since he can't climb on the walls or the branches, (because they are too wide for his feet to grab), this is why he comes out so quickly! He hates that enclosure!

@susie322
@susie322 6 лет назад
In a mesh enclosure the humidity can be really hard to keep, as long as your glass tank has good ventilation it is perfectly okay to keep them in a glass enclosure. And as for the branches, he can clearly climb on them perfectly fine, in the wild not all the branches will be the perfect size for him and chameleons are equipped to me very good climbers. He comes out because he trusts him, as you can see at the end, he doesn't always want to come out so just with that your theory doesn't make sense. He looks perfectly healthy and a healthy chameleon is a happy chameleon.

Hey! I hope you or someone else who has experience with chameleons (sorry armchair experts, not today) because I need advice. There's a local pet store that I frequent and they've had this one male veiled chameleon for a while now, almost three months. They claim he's aggressive but when I tried to approach him I realized it wasn't necessarily aggression as much as it was defensiveness. He flares his usually dull blue patterns into jet black and he begins puffing up and hissing and then will start striking. They can't get another chameleon in until he goes. I would get him myself but I feel as if he needs someone with experience to help him. Any tips?

Kayla Abaza try hand feeding. Everyday get a little bit more closer to the Cham. I might take a while but it'll work.

Honestly it's just a matter of working with him every day and teaching him that it's okay to trust people. You can start by just letting him be and just feeding him so that he'll start associating you with something positive (Food) then slowly when he stops being so defensive when you approach him then you can try to give your hand out or try getting him to eat from your hand, this will take time but you'll get there. Once he finally starts stepping on your hand by himself you can take him out and again, give him some yummy treats. Eventually he'll learn that you aren't trying to hurt him and that he gets treats when you take him out. It's not hard but it takes a lot of patience.

To answer my question about my Cham eye. I went to see the vet today. N she said it must've been a bee sting when I wasn't looking and that the eye was getting bothered cause the branch he chills is directly underneath him n was bothering he's eye. Something like that she said. So I moved the light alway from him more in a corner

Hey I had a question hope you can ask since you have experience handling Cham. Well I have a Cham. N I got got him from Petco. He's a baby but he's horn grew and you can already tell he's a boy. Anyways. My question is it took me maybe a week so he could trust me so than when I finally took him out. Yesterday I decided to take him out to the sun to get French air n real sun I left him in a plant that was divided to cool n hot. So I kept misting him a lot n a lot and a lot. So than I stopped for a tiny bit. So I noticed he's right eye was getting big. At first I thought it as a water bubble. But than the cham. Tried to take it off with he's foot so that's when I realized he's eye was actually bigger. So I sprayed most n it started to get back to normal. You think to much sun I wasn't even out for less than 30 min. Should I take him to the vet or not take him outside side no more. Idk you think you can help please

+marilyn santana One time a Bee has injured my Cham and was after he ate the bee that he stopped to eat so it's better you take your cham to the vet because maybe some insect has injured your cham!

+Thiago Oliveira the weird thing is that the eye went back to normal as soon as I sprayed him with mist. N now when I have him in the cage at random times when I mist him he's eye grows a little. But yeah. I'm gonna take him for a physical, made an appointment just wanted some pointers from someone who has years in train with a Cham. Thanks guy!! You rock n your Cham looks awesome hope I'll feed mine fruits one day too👍🏼

+Mathilde Barroso Sim, e mais alguns peixes. Quando se tem um camaleão, é difícil ter outros pets porque os camaleões ficam com medo e se escondem.

I have a screen cage for my chameleon so she is healthy and I always water her and the cricket and feed her 5 in the morning and at night I took her to a reptile vet so they can make sure she was helthy and for some reason she likes apples and eat her plant 😂😂😂😂
