The shorter your screws the less tapping you need to do.

Amen! And some posts are EXTREMELY short such as the '55 BelAir Gasser from post and the '62 Chevy rear post. Almost impossible to drill and tap without running a screw all the way through. 🥺

@@oldscoolcooldiecast1879 never, I drill a bit, hold my finger nail on the bit to mark the depth, pull it out and check it, then see how much deeper I can go, repeat until I feel I'm deep enough. The post on the rear of those JEEP gladiators I did is even shorter than the Gasser post, is crazy short. 👍🏻✌😁 now that I just told you all of that, I will probably drill all the way through my next one 🤣🤣🤣

@@oldscoolcooldiecast1879 the front post on Gassers is very short, so 1/8 works perfect, dont have to drill as deep. And I actually use them on every single car I do without any problems. I do have some 3/16 in case I need longer though. ✌😁

I used the exact same tap that you showed but I just can't get it to grip. Do you need to make a 3mm pilot hole?
@HonestDiecast

Yeah you need to use your pilot bit you used to drill the center of the rivet and drill that up into the post about a 1/4" or just long enough for the screw to go in all the way. 👊😁👍
