Man they need to come out with a dispensing roll for the painters tape like how scotch tape has the desk roll dispenser. I just switched to 1" round sticker labels, they stick and peel right off if needed
What’s worse than the single piece of tape is if that piece of tape is going sideways so it’s parallel with the fold of the bag. Because when you go to open the bag you end up tearing the tape in half like a hotdog bun splitting down the middle. Not you need a new piece of tape but guess what there’s no tape in sight so you say you’ll just retape it later. You won’t. I dont know if you mentioned that or not because i stopped paying attention to the video to write this and now the videos about to end and I’m not rewatching it lol Also…. Just buy the sealable bags like i do
What I do is I place the comic in the bag with the board, I then place the bagged comic on a flat surface and put a good-sized book over it. This removes all of the air out of the bag. Then I seal the bag with tape. Much easier than trying to push the air out after you tape it closed.
Honestly since I am leaning further and further away from any type of poly bag, I haven't. Though, I do like getting books from Midtown that are already in the resealable poly bags. They are definitely a nice option!
Waiting on resealable Mylar bags. Im currently using the BCW resealables and I do like them. But I really want to switch over to mylar soon for my Transformers Marvel Comics.
I use only 1 piece of tape... and you are correct... I have a ton of those triangle flaps, but it never really bothered me until now. Lol. From now on, two pieces of tape. Thanks for making this video.
I use Dollar store stickers - 500 for $1.50 - 1"x3/4" - just peel and stick horizontally - using 3 to a Mylite 2 bag with full board...fast easy and effective...
I store all my comics in 4 Mil Mylar and I use cling wrap to seal it. I hate putting tape on my Mylars. Plus I use 3 sheets of Microchamber Interleaving paper in my books. Also I use Comic Skins clear backboards.
I absolutely don't have the money to store 20k books the way you do, but you are definitely keeping them well protected. I actually personally don't like 4mil Mylar. I think they are way too bulky thick. But that's just my preference.
Use to buy back issue an not change the bag, they used to have clear tape, where the glue leaked an made the bags sticky. Started used scotch2 bits of tape. Although l make sure the flap is at the bottom of the comic.
Painter's tape? What? Why? For a tape that's low tack you might choose cloth tape , as well. a much cleaner choice (found in the pharmacy section). That blue tape turns over time into this horrible crusty, gummy mess. Impossible to remove after a decade. It's meant to be used and disposed of right away. Not to withstand storage. Otherwise great video but I can't share your opinion there.
Fair argument, but I have not had one comic book with painter's tape on it have the tape deteriorate whatsoever, and I've had books with painter's tape on them for well over a decade. I'm sure certain environments can contribute more than others, but I've also had any type of tape deteriorate into that crusty, gummy mess if it was on polyethylene bags because it's the bag that actually breaks down and not the tape. I'll have to look into the cloth tape as an option. I might assume that is going to be even more pricey than painter's tape.
@@JernosComicsPopCulture @Jerno's Comics & Pop Culture in full disclosure I was talking about tape i used in a garage which was experiencing huge swings in temperature. That flaky crusty gummy mess- I've never seen anything like it. Off-brand cloth is even lower tack and you, absolutely, will need scissors; but it's very suitable.. That is compared to the more higher-end cloth tape which will neatly rip. Maybe 'doubly' your average cost of the blue painter's tape if you fish around for it. I use it on book bags that I might go in and read, again..one day.
@@JernosComicsPopCulture I've seen painters tape gooey mess as well - could be humidity book and tape was subjected to and aging poly bag combination...humidity gives poly bags a greasy feel to them over time...
Whats your thoughts doesn't it makes sense to poly bag the newer glossy page comics? Do they really need mylar. Save the mylar for the older books. Love the tape tutorial.
Great question! Honestly, it comes down to two things: preference and budget. I don't book too many modern books in poly, unless they are keys (even minor keys) or have really cool covers. So, right now, I will save on costs by still having some poly bags laying around for most of my modern books.
I have no idea what this video is about because of that Punisher taunting me. 🤤Probably get trolled for this but I use two strips of Scotch 2-sided removable tape when moving books to mylars. No dog ears, looks clean and it seems to work well for me so far. I like painter's tape and need to use that more as well. Those dogs ears drive me crazy, lol.
I hate when people put scotch tape horizontally along the back of the book. I find that because the scotch tape was perforated with the jagged edge of the tape dispenser when you go to open the bag it splits the tape down the middle and it no longer holds the bag closed.
I had a hard time finding Blue Painter's Tape so I decided to purchase a pack of Multipurpose Removable Labels, placing one on each edge of the bag. Is it ok if I place the labels on the edges of the flap?
@@JernosComicsPopCulture hey im always open to trying new ways to improve my collection. And to tell you the truth I've just read 3 comics since watching your vid and have tried the tape on both sides and it seems pretty decent so im willing to keep doing it. It will only improve myself as a reader, collector and proud horder. LOL
lol I hear you on the tape pulls! I have switched to painters tape for all of my keys and I am using painters tape for more and more books in general because of this.
Lol I'm the opposite, I hate 2 pieces of tape. All my 800 books are in mylar with one painters tape piece down the middle and only like 2 books have bent flaps
I hate tape, has ruined some comics before, I am just gonna tuck the flap inside. Then maybe one piece of painters tape to keep it tucked in the middle.
There is a new paint tape called delicate surface. It comes off very easily. I would rather invest the money and seal it from to end and just get a couple of extra rolls.
@@JernosComicsPopCulture also I won’t be moving them in and out of the bags very much. The few that I do have to actually read I will keep them just regular taped up.
Great tip, but the proper way to insert comic into bag is to first lay it on the backing board then insert comic with backing board together in side the bag. . That’s how all the pro graders do it.
Lol okay, I'm going to have to do another video about that! I do know that that's how the 'pros' do it, but honestly I don't like doing it that way. The way I did it in this video isn't standard for myself either because I was at an angle for the video. I'll definitely do a vid discussing my issues.
@@JernosComicsPopCulture to be honestly most of the time I do it the same way you did, cuz I get lazy.(except when it comes to older comics with chipping etc.) but when I show noobs I show the proper way. But really as long as you take your time with it and careful should be fine.
Yeah there are specific times that I do it like that, and most of the time it involves Mylar. I think the main thing to point out is that either way can result in a bad result if you are being careless or acting with hastiness regardless.
@@JernosComicsPopCulture yeah understood on the price. I heard you say quickly on a different video that someone used painter and you liked that. I ran out of scotch and didn’t want to use up our gift wrapping roll lol. So, because I happen to have like 3 rolls of painter sitting around from our house Reno we are doing, I searched out your video on taping and bam there it was, confirmed haha. I’ll use it for good stuff for sure. Thanks again man!
