This is the first video in my easy peasy Angela Woolsey playlist. How to taper a man's dress shirt. These tutorials are made with the very beginner sewist that just want to alter their own clothing so they'll look great! Not everyone is concerned with the way the clothes look on the inside. Hi Angela. Great video. I like long video's that go in to detail in order to get a professional finish and I like easy ones too. It is nice that you have given viewers the option, i.e.: easy peesy video's. I'm getting back into sewing but not confident enough to do repairs though a lot of the time I lack motivation as my sewing area is my bedroom. Thank you for sharing your skills and expertise.

The hard way actually wasn't that tough, and it came out great! Your instructions were super clear and easy to follow. My shirt now feels go good when I put it on, and I didn't spend $50 to get this done. My GAP shirt now looks like it was custom made. Thank you!

Did you search easy peasy angela woolsey? I’m thinking it should’ve pulled up with just easy Peasy, but I added my name in case someone else used the two words easy Peasy. I realize peasy is supposed to be spelled Peezy, but I wanted it to be similar to easy. I might have to rethink that. Lol

I used to be afraid of the same thing. Get a shirt that you don’t wear anymore and practice on that first. You’ll do great!!

@@AngelaWoolsey thanks for the kind words! I do have one question though. Is there a way to make give the seams more of a professional look than just serging them or doing a zig-zag stitch? Also, do you have a tutorial for heavy and long woolen overcoats? I noticed theres no videos about tailoring them.

In this video, I show you how to take up the sides of a dress shirt with a flat felled seam. I’ve only ever done one coat like that and I did not record it. It was for a client and we really don’t need outerwear like that in Southern California so I don’t get requests for that kind of alteration

@@AngelaWoolsey haha i live in Texas, so we dont really have a need for that either over here, but i do really like to wear them on those occasionally colder days. Anyway, sorry for all the questions, but i have 1 last one. When taking in side seams, can i just take in however much i want, or is it advisable to only take in a certain amount?

I thought I had a video of this alteration, but I guess I don't. If the seams of the shirt are serged, then yes. If it's a flat felled seam, then I don't think it would transition well. I think you'll need to open the cuff at least in that area.

Hello Angela My 13 year old Grandson has Dwarfsim and I have had to learn how to alter his clothes, but I need help with his longsleeve school shirts as the are cuffed and I have to take 8 inches off the sleeve, so I have to take the sleeve in so it is not to wide at his wrist ,could you do a video on how to alert a shirt taking off so much length, I am sure this would not only help me but others with shirt arms 🙏🏼

Looks great. How much would you expect a tailor to charge for this?

I really depends on the seamstress and where you're located. I don't remember what the shop charged where I worked (alterations were free if you bought your clothes there). I did a quick DuckDuckGo search and found a seamstress in Va that charged $20 for this alteration. Another price list I found, charged $25 for this alteration, but $35 for felled seams. On a third search, I found a list that didn't list this alteration at all. I hope this helps.
