Still pinching myself that I did this taper solo over 5 years and got off my antidepressants completely after nearly 2 decades of physical dependency. The bloke is very accurate with his understanding of tapering percentages, holds during cuts and receptor occupancy as we go lower into our tapering schedules. Just wish if our local doctors and psychiatrists had this knowledge, would be a lot safer and cost effective for everyone out there in this incredibly tough journey.

The unfortunate part is 'they' profit from prescribing, so the incentive for cognitive dissonance is higher than the incentive for ethical medicine.

@@MajICReikiIt is called 'guaranteed return office visits $$$$' when a doctor prescribes benzo's (or opioids) for daily use. I told my doctor I wanted to taper after 20 yrs, that only lead to more appointments monthly. And she put a notation in my record that I was addicted, and all my prescriptions had to be screened by telehealth appointments for now on. Now I am charged for telehealth appointments every month for every prescription not just the benzo I am tapering from. Until telehealth said they were not comfortable with filling my benzo script because my doctor made a notation I was tapering and did not want anything to do with tapering patients. They left me high and dry and would not fill any prescriptions. My doctor got an earful, all she had to say was that is office policy. This completely broke what I thought was a relationship with my doctor. I have no confidence or trust in my doctor and stopped tapering. Told her it made tapering way too stressful which is counterproductive when tapering. In a blink of an eye I went from being a patient who was on a benzo to an addict and not to be trusted, which is what I feel about my doctor, not to be trusted.

How exactly do you taper 5 or 10 percent? It's a pill. Do you just measure and cut 5-10 percent of the end? I'm confused.

I tapered down from 60 mg escitalopram over 2 years. But when I arrived at around 7 mg, I went to pieces. Remained steadfast for several months, living very healthily, going to the gym almost every day. But it got so bad it was no longer responsible to go on. I so wish I could get off my ADs, but this episode has frightened me.

Great information, but very disheartening that only the very wealthy can afford this type of treatment and guidance if you don’t want to go it alone. I’m not sure how many people can afford $3,500-$4,500 a month. Especially since a lot of people can’t work because they are in protracted withdrawal.

I've been on sertraline since 1998. Last year I lowered from the usual 75mg to 50mg while the Dr also prescribed buspirone at the same time. The withdrawals from the sertraline combined with the side effects from the buspirone was horrible and that was 14 months ago. I'm still feeling the effects some days are pretty rough. I was told in a Facebook group about protracted withdrawals that I should not lower again until I feel leveled out. I hope that I feel better soon . it comes in waves. A few.days feeling not so bad and then days of feeling depressed and anxious and feeling strong dread and hopelessness. Any suggestions?

And, to answer your question: you buy a Gemini scale, a nail file, and spend hours each week cutting and weighing doses; basically become a home pharmacist. Or you could pay for compounding, which can be expensive. It’s infuriating that we have to do this ourselves.

Ok So, first you take a pill of your med. Let's say it has 2mg. Now, let's supposed you can divide it in two, or even four equal parts. You get 0.5mg for each. You take it and dilute it in a glass with 100ml of water in it, for instance. Mix it really well. Then, you determine the amount of milligrams for microdose intake. Let's suppose you wanna take 0.05mg. You convert it to ml, and then you get 10ml. Pick up a seringe and take 10ml from the glass. That's all.

The 7 day hold doesn't protect one from the risk of protracted withdrawal though, right? It's too early to know... But I guess one can't wait 3mo-1y after each reduction to see if they will have protracted withdrawal from that reduction. But going slow enough one might let the protracted withdrawal catch up early enough to know that you are having this reaction and know for the rest of your taper (not sure what one does when one gets protracted withdrawal, if they need to re-instate to be safe or they can only ride it out for as long as it takes.... Haven't seen all the videos yet, if they talk about it).
@Bethiegraceful
@Bethiegraceful 10 месяцев назад
I’m curious about drugs like Prozac where the half-life is longer. When I do tapers I don’t feel the withdrawals until almost a month later, so the 7 day hold doesn’t work for me.

@stevio8865
@stevio8865 3 месяца назад
Hey. Have you been on 20 mg all the time? If you're having withdrawal symptoms when tapering down to zero, you could try to go to your psychiatrist/neurologist to prescribe you fluoxetine as it has a really long half-life. So that could help to taper down itself. You can also try medication to ease your withdrawal symptoms, for example, dimenhydrinate for nausea and dizziness.

@4GSLmusic
@4GSLmusic Месяц назад
Get your dr to order to a compounding pharmacy and do a liquid taper. It’s a lot easier and the same dose cuts apply. Not more than 10% for most people every 4-6 weeks. 5-10% is a general starting point. Some can come down quicker at that reduction every 2-4 weeks. All of these drugs can be tapered in the same way. When you’ll know it’s too big of a reduction and too quickly is when you experience symptoms that aren’t just annoying or uncomfortable, but debilitating. This is when you go back up to the last dose and slow the taper if you can’t wait until restabilizing. This is very doable. Find a compounding pharmacy.
