This works. I started doing letter sounds with my son when he was 2 and a half. It took maybe five or ten minutes a day. He was reading basic words by a little over 3. He reads on his own now at 4 years old. It's so cheap, get a pack of white index cards and just flip through them once a day. I split the alphabet in half at first and worked up to the full alphabet. DO THIS!

This is really good advice. Note to parents: be patient with your child and don't compare your child. If you are a CONSISTENT teacher, they will learn (catch on) eventually.

Thank you! I am copying this chart for my daughter and realizing there isn't the c, p, x & the vowels. Is there a reason for not including the c, p & x in this chart? I love your videos, thank you!
@zeenatrahman2292
@zeenatrahman2292 6 месяцев назад
In vowel blending (aieou), certain consonants like "c," "p," and "x" are not commonly used because they may result in complex or uncommon sounds when combined with vowels. - **C:** The letter "c" often has a soft sound (like "s") before "e," "i," and "y" and a hard sound (like "k") before "a," "o," and "u." This can complicate vowel blending. - **P:** The letter "p" can create abrupt sounds and might not blend smoothly with vowels in a way that produces common and easily pronounceable combinations. - **X:** The letter "x" can represent different sounds, and its use in blending with vowels might lead to less common or challenging combinations. The goal of vowel blending is to create simple, clear, and commonly used sounds, which is why certain consonants are avoided in these specific combinations.

This is already working for us. My four year old has a hard time blending, but as soon as I turned the letter sounds into flash cards, and then made flash cards of the two-letter “blends” she started to immediately get it. She’s even anticipating how the two letter blends are parts of words and she likes to throw out words she can think of that start with those blends, like: “di : dig” and “to : top.” She’s a smart kid but she was stuck and I think this is gonna do the trick. Her 2.5 year old sister is catching up with her fast, too!

Teaching how to read phonetically is the only correct way to learn to read. Today’s public schools are teaching sight words and I have been having a fit because the children are failing very badly. My granddaughter was in public school and she wasn’t learning with their methods so I had to start over and teach her phonics. I never dreamed they would get this so wrong. They also aren’t teaching mathematics correctly either. .
@teresasugden466
@teresasugden466 Год назад
💯 agree. Public schools have dumbed down in all areas. I taught prekindergarten and kindergarten privately in a church for 19 years. The ps next door loved the first graders coming in from my school. They could tell the difference by the kids just knowing how to listen and follow directions, and knowing basic reading skills. My gkids are being homeschooled, I help once a week. There were so many distractions in their public school...kids allowed to bark in class because they wanted to be a dog, autistic children getting loud and upset, and just bad and bullying behavior from others. Public schools are not creating a good learning environment, and too many kids can't cope with simple frustrations. Parents are raising delusional brats and many teachers are activists instead of real educators.

Even me sane question. There is one more letter X not in the chart.
@douglagyal4364
@douglagyal4364 2 года назад
"C" isn't on there because it follows a different phonetic rule. "Ci, ce" make the "s" sound. X isn't there because it's usually an ending sound and "x" sometimes makes the "z" sound for certain words. All of this is detailed in the Alpha Phonics book she recommended.

I taught private school, decoding with phonics only. Frequent, common words will eventually become sight words. You are right in your methods. I also had my students and now my grandkids trace the letters when first learning the letter's sound, it helps with learning how to write the letters as well.
