Yeah, I've realized rhythm is where I groove with them. It's only my second year, though, and I want to work on melody before I get stuck in my ways. lol
This was really helpful! I'm already starting to use the high and low ideas you discussed with my students. One question -- when you talk about transitioning to a simplified staff, are you basically starting with fixed do? I would like to avoid fixed do, but I'm not sure how to go about that with a simplified staff using solfege (i.e. I don't want them to think that "sol" always has to be on a particular line, or even on a line at all). Or maybe you are using fixed do, in which case I would just need to find a different approach maybe. Hope that makes sense.
