Love your information, especially your idea of “All About Me Book”. I’ve used the book “ Nonfiction Craft Lessons” by Ralph Fletcher that I think really helps also. It’s divided into grades and each “chapter” goes over a non fiction lesson. He also gives examples of resources.
Third grade needs this too. Even though it’s introduced in 2nd, I find many of them still don’t know these features well enough at all. I use the scavenger hunt as well. In Scholastic News magazines I gave them glue labels of text feature names next to the actual feature after we do the reading.
Hi Susan, I'm wondering if you have other suggestions for the nonfiction/fiction book pairing for the student inquiry lesson idea? Do you use different pairings at each of your stations or is it cats and dogs books at every station?
