Hi! Erica! Thank you for asking!☺️ I purchased the Rosetta Stone lifetime 25 language package about 3 months ago!🥹 I have not moved forward on anything, because I was missing the breakdown that you meticulously shared with us all! Now I am excited because I know “how” and “where” to start!☺️ My native language is English, but I want to start with learning Spanish first, perfect it, then move on to another language🥰 Again, Thank you so much Erica for sharing All that you share, it really means a lot! I will continuously follow you and download your very important shared information!🥰 I will post from time to time to update my progress!😌 I wish you and all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!🥰

Wow, I only wished this video was around when I start my language learning journey (again) about 3 months ago. After viewing this video I need to revisit why I want to learn Spanish and set effect, concrete goals. The foundation of my house is pretty shaky. However, if I were to say where I am actually at now "in the house" model I would say a combination of the study plan and tools. For the last 3 - 4 weeks I have been trying out different programs in order to discover which one works best for me. I am on my fifth app and/or program...ump, ugh, sigh. I am ready to find my number one resource and progress through it.

Love it, I am doing much of what you say, but my greatest problem is still the comprehension, sometimes I prepare to say something, but then I am asked a question very different from what I am thinking and I freeze. Pero I am determined to succeed, so I’ll keep on trying.

This framework is golden and personally I’m going to apply it to other areas of my life too. Tomorrow afternoon I’ll be looking at your study guide and the Rocket Spanish course. Thank you so much for your kind comments! Yes, I understand the struggles with a lack of time. You can start with 1/2 hour a day. If you have a solid plan and effective tools then 1/2 hr consistently every day is a wonderful amount. As you progress more and get excited over your progress you may find yourself naturally making a bit more time. 🙂

This was excellent! Contrary to popular belief though, I did learn most of my Spanish from school. I'm glad that I learned all of the grammar and everything. Yo puedo escribir en español pero no he hablado en conversación. No entiendo cual es el problema. I loved your chart and I saved it so that I'll be able to refer to it whenever necessary. I am so thankful I stumbled upon your RU-vid channel. One semester of college Spanish then practicing w/Duolingo here and there. I was going to take the plunge with Duolingo this new year when I decided to join a local conversational class instead. However, I still want to work on my own. I found it interesting that your dad decided to join a Hispanic congregation. Did he do so to allow his family to immerse in the language? I have started listening to Spanish praise and worship with lyrics and my 1st destino video. Awesome plugs!! Although I've been on their site, I have not found a way to acquire their workbook. While I'm in this conversational class, would you recommend using one or both of the destino books?
@EricaRayLanguage
@EricaRayLanguage 2 года назад
Yay! So glad we found each other! Some have found the Destinos books on betterworldbooks.com, amazon, and eBay. Some of the students in my community who like textbooks and exercises have enjoyed the Destinos workbooks to go along with the series. Regarding the congregation, that arose simply from a desire to help people, but the language was a bonus :)

I completely understand. Try doing a little prep work with the topic of the conversation that you want to have (just take it one conversation at a time) and perhaps look for an online tutor. Sometimes there's just less pressure when you're speaking with someone online, especially someone who is accustomed to working with learners of the language.

I am super stuck on the first two. I guess I have always been interested in learning Spanish. I used to live where the population spoke mostly Spanish. Unfortunately, I don't live in the same area. But, I have a few friends that speak Spanish. I have been learning for a couple of months but I don't have a specific goal. For example, I want to learn how to order food in a restaurant, and I am not interested in those types of goals. I feel like it's time to just stop. I think about why I am learning I feel like it isn't good enough. Or I am never going to be able to have a conversation. I am willing to try again, just need to reevaluate.
@EricaRayLanguage
@EricaRayLanguage 3 года назад
So you said that you do want to learn how to order food in a restaurant but you're not interested in setting that as a goal? I wasn't sure if I understood properly.☺️
@leelxst3912
@leelxst3912 3 года назад
Like I don’t really have a specific reason to learn Spanish. And I don’t have a specific goal like I want to learn how to order food in a restaurant. So, I feel like maybe it’s just useless to learn but I am really interested and have been learning for a couple of months. So idk what my next steps are.

Ah gotcha. Well you're still very early in. You may find a deeper motivation later after you continue to lay your foundation or you may just be a hobby learner which is fine. Many of us need a good hobby. But if you do find yourself getting stuck or frustrated, then setting specific goals and seeing them through (even something small like ordering at a restaurant) may give you the motivation that you need to keep going.
@EricaRayLanguage
@EricaRayLanguage 3 года назад
@@leelxst3912 a goal could be having a short conversation with one of your Spanish speaking friends about a certain topic :)

Envision who you want to start talking to (many learners feel more comfortable starting out with a one-on-one tutor) and what you would like to talk about. Anything that is either highly relevant or interesting to you is a great place to start. ☺️

I have a question. What do you think is a good routine? I've been learning Spanish for two years now and I have yet to find a good routine that I can stick to.
@EricaRayLanguage
@EricaRayLanguage 4 года назад
It's not possible to give a one-size-fits-all answer because it depends on so many factors, such as what you want to accomplish with the language, how much time you have, what your current level is, how you like to study, etc...But I do talk a bit about what area to put emphasis on and when (in my opinion) in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7zPKB10CjI0.html. If you still feel like you're in the beginning or lower intermediate stages or if you like to follow a structured program, you may want to find a good conversational program and advance with that every day for perhaps 30 minutes. Here is one that I recommend: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qLWH3okOI2M.html If you're a bit more advanced or if you prefer to use your own materials, you may find this study method useful: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fIEqxuAHVUc.html

HelloTalk is a free language exchange app - brc.hellotalk.com/Erica_RU-vid (affiliate link) I did a video about it here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tA9R2iSIhyI.html But I must say that this may not help you with the "trust issues" part because personally I do feel more vulnerable talking to people on a language exchange app than I do with a tutor :) But there are really basic "tutors" for conversational practice only (not professional teachers) that charge just $6-$8/hr on iTalki - This is my referral link that will give you $10 free on iTalki - bit.ly/italki10credits

Thanks! She's a ham. 😅 Is your progress where you would like it to be? Or are you more of a hobby/casual learner, in which case perhaps there's not a specific level that you're aiming for? 🙂
@sklanguage589
@sklanguage589 4 года назад
@@EricaRayLanguage It isn't that I don't want to progress, I am just on a different path. As the saying goes, "There's more than one way to skin a cat." I don't set measurable goals because I have set too many that turned out to be a burden and disappointment instead of something that motivated me and helped me feel accomplished. For instance, I planned to read 20 pages a day, without realising that was too many pages for me. I planned watch 15 episodes of a show and then got bored with it, but switching to another show felt like a failure. The goals were not appropriate, necessary or helpful. I learn via media and language exchanges, not language courses. I have given it a lot of thought, and researched it, and I am sure that dropping the courses was the right thing to do.
@EricaRayLanguage
@EricaRayLanguage 4 года назад
@@sklanguage589 Gotcha. So setting goals wasn't the issue. You just needed to work on the "achievable" and "realistic" part of a S.M.A.R.T. goal. And no, not everyone will like to use a language course. A language course is just one of a plethora of tools that you can choose from. It looks like you've chosen media exclusively as your tool. So you're doing or have the potential to do these steps in the model. There's a ton of flexibility within it. The choices one makes within each stage will vary a great deal from one another in the same way that no two people are going to build the exact same house. But the steps will take you to your personal goals (if you set them)! 🙂
