Olive skin tones are difficult. I can wear magenta, fuchsia, and rose but I look horrendous in bubble gum or Barbie pink. I just look like I have no business wearing those shades. I believe you by just looking at your picture your red hair looks really great on your skin. I know this because I've had EVERY red hair color and I always got compliments on how it contrasted nicely against me. I have the same problem with pink spectrum. I think of it more of "highlighter" colors I can't pull off but if the tones are rich they look amazing. Silver eyeshadow &/or highlighter may look great on olive-cool skin tones but definitely NOT on olive-warm skin tones. As an “olive-warm” I can attest to this. Like all skin tones, there’s a spectrum for olive too (olive-cool, olive-neutral, & olive-warm) so not necessarily a “one size fits all” dynamic.

same lol. The last foundation I bought that matched my skin tone very closely like ALMOST PERFECTLY is the Selena Gomez Rare Beauty foundation in the shade "neutural warm" or something like that. I would usually go for a sandy color like warm sand or even a warm beige but it never quite matches my skin. I wore a lot of drug store brands for a few years for a long Time too, but they were always more "pink" on me and I could only wear them in the winter. Summer time I'd always go with a warm or sand color but it would also be too dark on me! Ugh. I didn't even know neutral warm was a thing but I'm glad I found it! Another pro tip - I finally found my contouring shade!! I get the elf foundation square which comes with 4 shades - two light colors and two dark colors and they essentially have a bit of a gray transfer to it. So it is the first and ONLY pallet I use for contouring anymore and its so freaking cheap its worth it. I get mine in the shade light/medium. I am a somewhat fair/medium olive toned female (half Guyanese & Half Ecuadorian) so.. my skin tone is comparable to maybe Eva Mendes if we're talking celebs lol. I'm brunette and both my parents were Italian. I tend to burn a bit before I tan. I've been buying warm toned make up for YEARS thinking it was the right makeup for me because I'm olive skinned but it was never a perfect match and I often wondered why. Lately, I ran out of my make-up but was also noticing that the blush I preferred/wore most often and looked best on me was a cool rose blush instead of another peachy blush I had. I also discovered a silver eye shadow that really made my brown/hazelish eyes pop in a way that I never expected. Anyway, I think I'm a cool olive skinned girl, thanks to your vid. I just purchased the Loreal Infallible makeup in ivory buff which seems to be a good match (it's described as cool pink undertones, medium light). It's a revelation and I can't believe it took me this long to figure out. Having said that, my overtone is warmer which adds more complexity to it all, but at least I think I"m on the right path now. If you could do more vids on this topic it would be great. I'm not tanned at the moment, so I can wear this new foundation, but what happens when I get some sun on my beautiful cool olive skin - how do I handle my foundation? Do I go warmer? Deeper? a little of both? Thank you! So glad I discovered your channel!

Eye makeup colors to me can be a challenge with darker skin that has some olive undertones. Matte brown, tan and beige eyeshadows and eyeliners look terrible on me. Only metallic brown and tan shadows and eyeliners look really nice on me like shimmery dark brown, gold, copper and bronze. Matte black eyeliners are meh OK but not the best on me but that's also because they diminish my small, droopy lidded 'sad looking' eyes. But shimmery black and shimmery gunmetal gray eyeliners and eyeshadows look great on me and shimmery and matte jewel toned shadows and eyeliners look good on me especially the shimmery ones. YSL's original eyeliner pencil comes in some matte dark jewel toned colors and I looked amazing in their emerald green eyeliner pencil. I love that one.

Man, I'm glad I found this video, everytime I try and figure out my undertone I get lost! Someone said my baby had an olive undertone and I thought hmm, maybe I do too...then this video came up. Makes sense for the most part: 1. Eyes are hazel green 2. Hair is dark kind of ashy brown 3. White makes my skin look more yellow. 4. I look great in reds & earthy browns. Purples, blues and greens look ok too. 5. My veins change colour depending on the lighting, sometimes more blue sometimes more green. 6. Some blush colours disappear on my skin.... I love it when things fall into place 😁

Lots of those tipoffs were spot on, for me. I am a fair olive (Jewish), with rosacea redness over the nose and cheeks. Many MUA and SA want to use “cool toned pink” complexion products on me. That looked awful, like I had used blush all over my face! 😲 So, I’d often try to grab something more pale yellow based, to tone down the redness and even things out... but lots of complexion products either didn’t come in light enough yellows or they just looked off.... although I could fix it a bit with cool toned blush or a cool toned bronzer. So far, the only foundation that work well for me, on its own, is Smashbox in 1.05 ... which is a fair olive.

Horrible packaging but the shade is good on me, no matter how full (using a brush) or lightly (using a sponge) I apply it. There aren't any neutrals until you get to the deep end of the range but the "warm" in 213 was only slightly warm and has some green to it so it might be worth checking out. All cool foundations look pink/gray and all warm foundations look yellow/orange. I also fit much better with silver than with yellow gold color. I feel like olive skin is actually neutral skintone. I definitely had a haha moment. I have been trying to analize my skin colour and undertone for a few weeks according to the different colours analysis methods out there, mainly the one with the 12 seasons. But I could not figure out if I was warm or cool. At first, I thought I was deep winter, then clear spring, I was resisting analysing myself as an autumn because I hate the colour palette, but one day I just admitted I had to face I was an autumn, but the reality was that these earthy warm colours make me greenish, yellowish and drain me out. I thought I couldn't be winter because I had warm undertone, you know what I mean I have tried everything. Then I watched your video and ticked all the boxes for olive tone. I think on some level or a long time ago I knew I was olive but I was trying to block it out as I would rather not be. Now, I need to continue figuring out what colours suit me best. Could you make a video about what colour to wear for olive skin. Thanks a lot for your video.

Years ago a consultant at Ulta told me I had olive based skin. I thought she was nuts. I had never heard that before. I am very light and pale and thought olive skin as very Mediterranean. I knew certain colors looked best on me but I thought it was because I was cool toned. I just recently learned about olive and have found a great foundation and other things that have changed my whole appearance. It has taken away the shallowness and washed out look. I've largely given up on matching/wearing foundation but have always been curious on what to call my skin tone. I settled on "neutral" because I used to think olive implied you were still very warm somewhere, but just not "golden" or "tan." I too have the vein color weirdness, most nudes and corals look bad or nearly clownish on me, and my cheeks carry a lot of redness despite the rest of my skin tanning easily. When it's not tanned, it's this odd light yellow to pink-toned continuum. Where warm foundations were either too bright or yellow/orange, and cool foundations were too ashy or peachy. The only signs I seem to break is that I much prefer gold on my skintone than silver, even though I can pull off both. I suppose I can also pull off both orange and blue-based red lips, but that might be another personal preference. Will be trying the shimmery eyeshadow trick tomorrow, since I just picked one up 😜

Interesting video! I only realized last year that I was yellow with olive undertones (all of a sudden I could just see the green in my skin which was not apparent before) and it totally changed how I see foundations and why I have always had such a touch time getting matched correctly. Itz not easy finding shades that have a good balance of yellow and olive. On me gold and silver jewelry both look good and I can often rock both warm and cool clothing. I think perhaps skintones are on a spectrum where some may have more olive while others more yellow for example which would impact how these tips from the video will be relevant for people.

Yours made it clear THE MOST for me! thank you so much for this very well informed video 💕 I struggled with the olive concept for the longest time because I'm a very pale color (but will tan in a few hours walking outside) but pale color shades in foundations look a bit more pink on me and if the undertone is too yellow then that also shows (tho seems to fit a bit better, but still not quite there, and unlike many people grayish BB creams seem to disappear on me 😸) you mentioning the eye color details helped tremendously! Girl, I'm 37 (today is my bday, yay!) and Greek, and haven't figured out YET what skin tone I have! My veins under natural light look some times green, some times bluish green, gold is very close to my skin tone to the point it might not pop out, but silver doesn't pop out either, my face looks white in photos but not white upclose! Its actually more yellowish with red/pink under and some spots might be more grey or green!!! White paper next to my face does not help at all! And lets NOT talk about make up! There's no foundation that actually looks natural on me they will either be too white-pink or too dark-orange/yellow, I have to mix 2 , one light and one dark to get anything that would be close to my natural skin! So, I envy anyone who can determine right away what skin tone they have!
