82°! As soon as you said that my father raised up out of his grave screaming , "who touched the thermostat, I told you not to touch the thermostat, what're we rich all of a sudden now!?", reset the thermostat down to 67° & stumbled back to the graveyard mumbling about " kids these days"!

Thank you for the GREAT INFO! i just paid $110 to an hvac guy who said your thermostat doesn't work. He did nothing to fix it. I jumped on YT saw your explanation about the batteries and the C port, put in new batteries and fixed the problem! I wish I had seen your video 1 day before. Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This was so helpful in revealing that our thermostat was indeed working right. We ended up after a couple videos like this saving a lot of $$$ on a big costly repair by having a better idea what was wrong with our HVAC. It ended up being a blower motor. We are very grateful. Still a big repair but saved a ton. Thank you.

Omgosh it worked. My ac turned back on. I now know it’s the cover and not the unit. It still just gives me the inside temp and not the setting temp. I was a little worried it now won’t turn off. I don’t want it constantly running. But it did shut off at 76*. I can do that till my new cover comes. 😊 Thank you! Your channel was the only one I found that really helped me out.

Dude, you wont beleive this but ac wasnt working upstairs and had a blank face thermostat. I had checked several things and was almost convinced that it wasnt a thermostat problem. It's 11 pm on a Friday night so I'm pretty bummed about the problem. Saw your video and skeptically tried your idea. I created my own jumps start wire with electrical tape and a paper clip. Connected the R and G and a few seconds later the AC kicked on! So hoping just replacing the thermostat in the morning should solve the problem. Thank you for this video!

This video was the absolute BEST! if it was my thermostat that was causing my a/c to not work, Id be very bummed paying some electrician couple hundred dollars to change my thermostat. This video provided all the info I needed. Brilliant suggesting just trying the fan cause I have one of those programmable units that takes a degree to figure whether the problem is the unit or my inability to get the "wake, daytime, night, start, finish, Mon-Sun" all or even partially correct. Noting 24 volt shock is nothing helped, so you do not have to figure where the hell on your fuse box is the thermostat breaker. The paperclip tool is ingenious, and lastly suggesting buying the same unit (I didn't want the program nonsense), but to skip all the rewiring was a tip I couldn't turn down. THX!!!

Thank you much. Cant believe this worked. I had just recently gotten my AC replaced. With a one year old used one and kept the same 1855 thermostat in my old house. I took off the cover and it did not work. Went to panel on the unit and tried again. This time it worked. So after looking around a bit more I looked into my drain line since they installed a overflow kill switch. My drain outside had gotten clogged up. Unclogged it and turned on right away. Thank you for this video.👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

If your AC keeps blowing air and actually is cooling, the condenser contactor could be stuck closed (welded). Research AC CONTACTOR.

Mr. YourSelf: Thank you very much for your great videos! can you please make short video on outdoor unit short cycles reasons?. Thanks
@Your-Self
@Your-Self 3 года назад
Here are a few reasons that the outdoor condenser unit is short cycling: Weak batteries in the Thermostat. Loose wires at the Thermostat, Air-Handler/Furnace, or Condenser. Clogged air filter or the outdoor condenser unit. The Contactor going bad. The Capacitor going bad. The outdoor Fan going bad. The Over-Flow Switch is full of condensate water and tripping. Refrigerant leak, low Freon, iced up tubes, clogged metering device, bad compressor... the last line is a major problem for which you need to call a tech.

I definitely agree these are safe ways of testing a thermostat but honestly I would change batteries 1st if no change then I'd buy a cheap $15 dollar thermostat and see if it makes a difference because having a back up never hurts. But all this does is remove the thermostat from being a problem most of the time it's a broken or loose wire, blown fuse, or another cheap easy to fix part the expensive part of heating and cooling always comes down to labor cost and usually doubled hourly rate for emergency calls

Thank you for your video. You have mention about C terminal and batteries. Question 1: Without batteries, I wouldn't able to see the temperature numbers. Is it a good idea for everyone? Question 2: With the batteries and C terminal, can I have both of these items?
@Your-Self
@Your-Self 2 года назад
You need either batteries or the C terminal connected for the thermostat to work at all. But it's best to have both in case of a power failure, so you don't lose your programmable thermostat settings.

What does it mean if the "set to" temp and "heat on" is crazily blinking? It doesn't do that when it's over on cool..? It's a weird blinking and the "set to" temp is also blinking the temp up and down by a degree or two. It does take batteries, but there were no batteries when we bought the home a year and half ago. It's hardwired. Can you help? Is it the thermostat or something else? Thank you!

Thanks for the great video! Question for u. Our thermostat Keeps turning the fan on and off as we usually keep it on auto. The furnace downstairs seems to be working as we are able to turn the heat on/off however the fan keeps turning on then a few mins later back off. We put new batteries that doesn't seem to be the issue. We removed the thermostat off the wall completely and it is still clicking itself on and off. Is that a thermostat issue or a wire issue?
@Your-Self
@Your-Self 2 года назад
If you have a single thermostat and removed it completely from the wall, this could be a wiring problem or computer board in your Furnace/Air Handler problem. If you removed just the face plate from the thermostat, the problem could be with the back plate.

I have almost the same thermostat just not programmable. The temp reads 76 when off. If I turn on and set lower than temp reading it will shoot up to 81 degrees even while blowing cool air. The light on the thermostat will also flash on several times while running, not cycling on and off. Please advise.
@Your-Self
@Your-Self 4 года назад
This is definitely weird. What's behind the wall where the thermostat is attached to? Maybe washer/dryer running at the same time, warming up the wall? Maybe the wires are crossed and AC is running together with furnace/heater? Maybe the thermostat is simply bad... hard to say without being there to investigate.

or u may have a thermostat that stopped working, u change batteries (that u changed last month), but it wouldn't let u select temp. When u messed with it and it finally did, u put it back in place set on 50, selected heat and auto and WOW the thermostat lit up and rolled thru the #s quickly til it hit 90 degrees. Finally stopped but I stupidly put it back in place & went to bed, woke up in a pool of sweat and yep furnace running wide open at 90 - so much for hibernating in a room for 2 months with a space heater to keep my bill down. Never seen a thermostat so screwed up but never used honeywells - they're CRAP

Our furnace wasn’t coming on. Thermostat had no led readings on it, pulled the cover off and replaced aaa batteries. Still no led readings so removed batteries and they were very hot! Not sure if thermostat needs to be replaced, any thoughts?

Did you put batteries in with the correct polarity? I'd take the cover off again and experiment with batteries. The LED screen should light up in your hands, even before you put it back on the wall. If the LED is dead, try other batteries. Otherwise, the thermostat is bad.

Gas company came over and checked the furnace, and glass it’s working great. But I can’t get the heat to reach the set temp, it seems to be stuck between 17-19 degrees Celsius.

If your furnace continuously runs, maybe the duct in the attic or basement is torn/damaged or partially disconnected so you are losing some warm air to outside. What is your thermostat is set to, and what is the temperature outside?

YourSelf it’s currently -18. It seems to work fine until it gets cold out, and than it won’t reach any higher. Maybe I should check the venting.. thanks

I have one wire going to rc and no c wire connected. How do i proceed instead. My issue is it kept turning back on with or without the face of thermostat without staying off.

My thermostat will black out & sometimes will not reach temp set for heat. Have had no problems with air.

If we have the same issue as this video what can be the problem. I replaced the thermostat and still nothing turns on. I tried junping it from the thermostat and nothing. Not getting 24v to thermostat. I jump it from the main board and it works fine only.

Possibly a broken low-voltage wire inside the wall. When you remove the thermostat, you should have a spare wire twisted behind it. You could try installing that wire instead of the red wire on terminal R. And install the same wire color on the main board on terminal R as well. If that doesn't work, you may need to feed a brand-new wire cable through the wall... not fun.

@@Your-Self you were right. It was the thermostat wires. Ran a new one and worked fine after I did the connections. Thanks
