Have this problem with my bike. My mechanic says bearing looked ok, cog is fine. So hes just ordering the springs inside the starter clutch, hope.this saves someone abit of money
Mine does this one. When i took the start clutch off it spins freely counterclockwise by hand and engages when clockwise. Cleaned it and when i put it back on it just spins and not engaging or cranking the variator shaft when i press the electric start.
I could really really use some help. My bike has had this really weird problem where when I decelerate and let off the throttle, I get this bad friction noise from the engine. It goes away when I immediately pull in the clutch and give it gas. When I put the bike on a stand and in neutral and rev it. It makes a similar sound but not has aggressive or friction sounding. The video on my channel will show what it sounds like. There is some wear on the flywheel where it's sits, and some wear on the edge of where it sits in the middle. Can a bad flywheel make a noise like that or a bad starter clutch? Why would this noise suddenly go away when I'm riding and pull in the clutch
Sounds like probably the friction plates in your clutch -explains why the sound goes away when you engage the clutch and why its less pronounced when you have it in neutral i.e. under less load. Also - No, the starter flywheel and clutch shouldnt be causing the sound you are hearing.
same problem i have with a 2015 street 750... i replaced the bearing started 3 times then right back to spining. can not find a upgraded replacement so far
What did the quad sound like when trying to start it with the bad one in it? Everyone’s telling me to replace mine but my quad won’t turn over at all it just clicks at the solenoid and I have tried almost everything.
With the new one, did it come without the timing mark etched on the face the unit? I got a new one and it has no reference mark and the female sprocket. On the inside had a notch with one slime missing opposed to the original that I took out has no teeth missing. Could it be the reference mark that’s missing from this unit?
You figure the problem out? No video needed to diagnose really - its pretty obvious when you try to start the bike and the engine doesnt turn over. You just hear the starter and idler gears just spinning freely at a high RPM. Maybe itll catch a little but then will kiock out and spin free. Sometimes the whirring can be accompanied by a loud CLUNK! that'll scare the shit out of you but I think when this happens its because the idler gears are only held in place sort of floating between the engine block and crank cover; they're not bolted to anything liker the sprag and starter gear are. If its an older bike the cover may not be 100% true so it doesn't squeeze them as tight as it should so they can be forced out a little bit. If you find this is the case you can use a washer as a shim by placing it between the end of the idler shaft and the crank case.
