very good explanation, it was a week ago that i have experienced turbo charger of diesel generator explode. With massive explosion sound and smoke everywhere. Am curious to know what caused it

Oil starvation is usually the main cause of turbo explosion. Lack of oil leads to turbo overheating and eventually grow to irreversible damage. In addition, contamination is another cause, contaminated oil, foreign object sucked into the turbo can cause turbo failure. Turbo is running at extremely high speed, in hundred thousands, and at that speed even the smallest foreign object can cause massive damage. If you see broken impeller or turbine blades, that is usually caused by foreign objects. Over-boost caused by malfunctioning waste gate can also cause turbo explosion.
