Thanks for taking the time and sharing. I'm putting together a 64 but from what you showed me the frame I have is a 65 or 66 as the track bar has the threaded post on the rearend.
I'm happy to help. It could just be that the rear end was changed out with a 65 or 66 rear end because I think were the tracking bar goes on the frame is the same. But at the end of the day when it's going down the road no one knows.
Thanks for the information. I've had a 64 C10 292ci long bed since 1989. It has a 68 three on the tree transmission but until now didn't realize the rear end had been changed also. Good to know. Thanks...
Thanks for this video, helped me answer my confusion if my 283 c-10 swb bbw was 65 or 66. Neither me nor previous owner were fully confident. It’s custom cab.
New subscriber. My father bought a new 64 with a 283 three on the tree. My wife has the 66- 3/4 ton her daddy bought new in December of 65. We have a number of the 60 thru 72 trucks. We have a 55 that came factory with a 327 and a turbo 400 three speed trans. Its a 3/4 ton and has a 456 no spin differential. We have videos on our channel. One truck is a 60 that came with a V8 automatic and big back glass. and no stainless trim. Also the 6o thru 63 custom cabs have stainless steel cab sails. The GMC's had rear leaf springs.
‘66 was the first/only year the 327 was an engine option. I believe you are correct on the 2-speed wiper switch, ‘66 only. Also, A/C became available as a dealer-installed option in ‘64. It was available from the factory starting in ‘65. I’ve read that seat belts became a government mandate in ‘66, however the only seatbelts I’ve ever seen in these trucks have always been something that an owner added. My ‘66 did not have them when I bought it and there is zero evidence it ever had them. It’s a shame seeing that ‘64 large rear window cab rusting away like that. Guys everywhere are hacking up small rear window cabs to convert them. I think that’s a shame too. The small rear window cabs are one of those quirky/cool things that make old trucks more interesting than new ones.
Every '66 I've owned over the past 40 years had factory seat belts. I've owned, restored or worked on several dozen '66 Chevy & GMC trucks, Panels & Suburbans over this time.
Good information. I know a lot about the 67-72 trucks and the squarebodys but not the 60-66 trucks. I’ve got a buddy with a lot of these trucks and I’ve been thinking to pick one up and build a rat rod style build out of one
Interesting video. If you really want to mess up what you know, look into Canadian GMC's. They were designated 910, 920, and 930. Both our 64 and 65 had the serial number plate between the driver's door hinges. The 65 has 2 speed wipers with an electric washer pump. Both trucks have Chev inline sixes and coil springs. They just played by different rules.
Thanks for that I’ve read a few threads about options back in the day ,I’m thinking if it is a GMC it’s been done pretty good and is in really good shape so I’ll take that . Cheers Mate for your reply.
The 64 has a fawn interior paint the column is white cluster moulding is black The 65 has fawn interior column included cluster moulding is black The 66 has fawn interior, darker color dash, cluster moulding grey glove box plastic moulding w the word Chevrolet, different Chevy II steering wheel and horn button. The 64 frame is not different, but you are right on the sway bar mounting on the axle assembly. The 66 is the first year of the THM 400, available only on the C-10 and 20s two wheel drives. The 327 was available on late 65s and 66,and in 66 the 366 Chevy gas replaced the 348,409 engines in 66 heavy mediums. By the way, well done.
@@johnehlert4366 You are right,60-1,dark grey,62-4,white,65-6,fawn,66, Chevrolet 10-30,nova style steering wheel, nova style horn button, custom, with horn ring,60-5 custom cab steering wheel,59 Chevrolet Bel Air style.
I have a 65 c10 that is a camper special that came with a 283 power pack and a powerglide. It now has a 350 with a th350 trans. I switched out the two piece driveshaft for a one piece. Thanks for posting. Im subscribed and look forward to more of your videos. BTW Where are you located?
That's cool I have a 65 it had a 230 in it and 3 on the tree but I put a 307 in it and left the 3 on the tree. And I live in North Carolina thanks for subscribing 👍 and I'm sorry I have not posted anything in a few weeks
Custom Camper is the correct name, as evidence by the Chevrolet Truck Sales Data Book, as well as the factory badges. All '65 & '66 Custom Camper trucks were 2wd, 3/4 ton & 127" wheel base. Camper Special wasn't in the scene until '67.
The hand brake in the cab is the same from 60 to 66 the cables are different on the rear axle 66 has a 3 cable system 65 and 64 have a two brake cable system I hope that answers your question. On the bin tags when I was making that video I wasn't intending on you having a VIN tag I was just simply pointing out the differences between the three years vintage can be swapped major mechanical Parts sometimes cannot be.
I imported a 66 from the states to New Zealand and on first impressions it looks pretty good although it has leaf springs and not coils ,I notice your trucks have different suspension ...the 64 has the leaf setup and the 66 has the coils ,should I be worried it’s a different frame?
@charliethec10guy6 Thank you Charlie. My 64 GMC K-1500 long bed had the cab replaced before I bought it because a tree severely damaged the original cab. There are several types of GMC VIN tags available. Question is, which is the correct type for a 64 K-1500? Anyone have pictures? Feel free to block or blur your VIN number if you prefer. Thank you everyone...0
What's the difference when it's a 4×4 I have a 1964 4×4 short bed, and I am just wondering what the difference is and if you know how rare a 1964 4×4 short bed is?
Great video! I just bought a 65 c10 but for some reason it has rear leaf springs. It does have the provisions for a pan hard bar on the rear end but it’s not there. Do you know if leaf springs were an option in 65?
so the frame is the same, you only showed the rear axle difference. I guess I either have a 65/66 truck because my rear axle has the short tracking bar and it also has a bracket welded to the axle tube on right that will hold the longer track bar. So what if any is the difference in the frame on a 64/65/66
The emergency brake cables are different between a 65 and 66. A 64 and 65 have a two cable emergency brake and a 66 has a three cable emergency brake. I am not claiming to know it all I am just going off of what I see
I've been involved in these truck for 40 years and have been actively restoring them for a living for nearly 20 years. That being said, I didn't take the time, to view your video again, to provide commentary and/or corrections. One component is, each year of the '60-'66 Chevy trucks, Panels & Suburbans, has a one-year-only body badge and a year-specific location, as well as a Series-specific designation. Additionally, standard equipment, verses RPO's (regular production options), were clearly identified in the Chevrolet Truck Sales Data Book for years '60-'66.
I hate to point out the obvious, but the 'emblem' on the 65 is wrong. The actual emblem looks much like the 64 and 66. The one you showed on the 65 is more from a 70-71, round about that time. EDIT: before you blast me, please see my 'reply' below.
I got something to say but first, let me finish this last bite of crow. I'LL BE DIPPED. 64 and 66 emblem was fender and was bowtie/top and 10/bottom in an almost square configuration. Then inexplicably in between (65) they went to the side by side rectangular, what I would describe as a very 70s feel on the cab. WOWZERS.
@@charliethec10guy6 yes sir, I humbly ate my crow, took my medicine. You were correct. PS: I'm currently in the market for a 60-66 C-10. My budget would dictate I will end up with one that needs work but would like to get one that at least already runs pretty good.
