This is just a basics of Tenkara video. Is there anything we missed or that you would like to see us go over in more detail?

How tippet do you suggest?
@tenkararodco
@tenkararodco 10 месяцев назад
@@2moremilesadventures For tippet length we recommend anything between 2-5 feet depending on where you are fishing. For small creeks you might want more on the 2 ft. side, and for bigger water you can add more. Personally I like it in the 3-4 range. But definitely play around with tippet length to find what you are most comfortable with.

Thank you for this. I recently bought a Tenkara rod and have gone to a local stream once with it. There is so much to learn, how to cast, how to land a fish etc. To conceal it, I'll tape it to my leg and rip the hair off when I am at the water! :0🤗

I love the dry fly presentation! Dratten style with Tenkara! my go to flies are nymphs,kebaris, then size 12 or 14 elk hair caddis or a stimulator fly in orange.

Hey fellas, thanks for the great video. I decided last fall that Tenkara would be my new spring/summer sport. I quickly got hooked just on the simplicity. 9 moths later i tied over 200 flies (cause thats fun too, while you're at it) and caught dovens of amazing trout. Many more "fun to catch" than eaters, but hey, i can trnkara fish in a dich compared to a big complicated setup of lures and jigs. Tenkara is for the true angler, who just goes for the sport of matching your quary at the finest detail

good intro vid guys. googled your product after seeing a guy trying to sell their's on facebook market place for almost $200, didn't know what it was and couldn't see why they wanted so much but i've seen long rods used by asians and wondered if they could be adapted to a reel by running a line thru the center of the rod

This looks like it will be very effective where I fish. I'm a dedicated euro guy, this looks like a different way of doing it. Could you dry drop or use sighter markers if nymphing two nymphs? Any information is helpful.
@tenkararodco
@tenkararodco 2 месяца назад
Yes you definitely could use different sight markers if fishing two nymphs. Also one of the benefits of fishing such a long rod is how sensitive it is to detect fish so most of the time when tightline nymphing we don't use any markers.

Great video. Super helpful. Excited the next time I visit SE Idaho (parents in IF) to try out some spots. Fishing locations was helpful as I don’t always know if it’s the spot, my technique, or the fly. Any tips for really fast creeks/streams?
@tenkararodco
@tenkararodco 10 месяцев назад
Thanks for watching. I think the #1 way to improve at fishing is to fish good spots. As simple as that sounds, you could be a very seasoned angler but if you are fishing a bad spot you might not have as much luck as a beginner fishing a good spot. Should we put together a little video of how to find good fishing spots?
@mwevre1876
@mwevre1876 10 месяцев назад
@@tenkararodco as someone new to tenkara and basically fishing in general, that is the single biggest challenge right now: finding a good spot. It’s slightly disheartening, lol, to watch all these epic videos and other channels’ content as well and not be able to immediately get to the same creek/stream/river and try it out. Completely understand not broadcasting locations to tons of people, though. But it’s still been fun so far just getting out and trying places. Talking to neighbors and hitting people up on the FB groups is starting to help.

I think it’s so funny that fly fisherman like to make fun of the tenkara but it really is just a fun different way to fish and had nothing to do with not being able to use a traditional fly fishing rod

Am I understanding correctly that tenkara fishing involves a limited amount of line? And is there an advisable amount of line to start with?
@barry4fish19
@barry4fish19 Месяц назад
There’s not a limit per se, but if the line you are using is too long, then when you hook a fish, you will have to drag the fish in by pulling the line in with your hand - not much fun. A good rule of thumb is, the casting line plus tippet should be about 12-18” longer than your rod length. This allows you to hold the fish under tension at your feet and reach for it to release it. So, for a 12’ Tenkara rod, use a casting line that’s about 10’ long and use a tippet about 3’ long.

Other than using a fly as a lure this is not and should not be called fly fishing as so many refer to it as "tenkara fly fishing". It's a cane pole for people who don't have the patience, skill or ability to learn how to cast a real fly rod. I can imagine it's fun to catch fish on the light rod but let's be honest about it.
@wingandhog
@wingandhog 8 месяцев назад
Maybe so. I have been fly fishing for over 50 years and besides motorcycling, find it very therapeutic. I fish mostly the San Juan and Pecos rivers in New Mexico. However, I want to experience different techniques and bought my first Tenkara this afternoon. I can’t wait to try it out. Let’s allow folks to enjoy the thrill of fishing with a fly without criticism.
@tenkararodco
@tenkararodco 8 месяцев назад
Using a fly to catch fish is fly fishing no matter what kind of rod you are using. Its all just about tricking the fish into thinking they are about to eat a real bug and its all fun!
@karmahavok

Well, I can't take my fly rod on long backpacking trips where I can easily take the weight and size of a tenkara rod. This idea that it's some sort of simpleton fly fishing is ridiculous.

I just want to be clear that you're publicly stating that a fly on a line to catch a fish is not fly fishing because..... It's not an Orvis rod or..?
