Firstly: What is the allowable value of the insulation resistance? Secondly: You must reverse the connections of your device, the positive terminal will be connected on the winding and the negative terminal on the the motor housing. Good luck!
@@mariuskiudulas4498 It matters specially in the case when the body remains connected to earth essentially supplied voltage and induced charge will be transferred to ground and you will not get correct reading.
@@pazhmalai It is usually listed in the spec sheet for the individual motor. Your looking for winding insulation breakdown so there should be a range of acceptable high Z readings, the ideal and the just barely usable numbers
What about spinning the motor to look for shorts? Video is good but I had a motor that blew a 200 amp breaker. We megged it and it looked good until we spun the shaft. That’s when the short appeared.
Taking too much time. Out in the real world the production boss demands quick but accurate troubleshooting. I was an industrial electrician for 50 great years and NEVER removed jumpers on an POS IEC motor or wasted time measuring resistance from IEC motor coil to another. If a winding is shorted or grounded does not matter because motor must be replaced ASAP. Ran several 480 motors with 5 meggerohms from motor coil to ground. You placed one merger lead on a painted surface . A big no no . Must be clipped to ground screw or bare clean metal. Should tell people that merger voltage is supposed to be double the line voltage plus a hundred volts so you need a 1,000 volt merger to properly measure a 480 volt motor. I own a nice 5,000 volt merger that found grounds in several 4,160 volt motors over the years.
@@christianandales9419 it a set number scale you can google for Dar testing or Pi testing but as far as insulation in ohms, the manufacturer of motor would know true ohms of windings, best to check a brand new motor and keep up with it over time to see the degradation
No need to remove.. Perform testing with the motor connected either star or delta.. This will test all the windings insulation to the body.. You may proceed to test individually when your first test has resistance below the acceptable value and you want to find which phase winding has the problem..
