Hello thats a very solid video for troubleshooting - very helpful thank you guys!! But I have a problem, that my brew boiler is not heating. PID displaying solid dot, static relay also shows solid dot and I have power (230 VAC) on L1 port of the static relay for the brew boiler. But there is no voltage on the heating element of the brew boiler. Must the wire from the static relay output port go directly to the heating element of the brew boiler? Because I dont have a connection between them (checked with continuity tester of multimeter).

Todd, amazing tutorial! In part 7 you mention that if the HIGH LIMIT SWITCH resistance is 0 (don't have a resistance) the switch needs to be reset . Shouldn't be the opposite? I have 0 resistance on both high limit switches. I believe high limit switches are normally closed, and they should always fail open. Thanks!

Great to have your clear video's available! My machine heats up normally. But after it's been at the set temperature (92'C) for a while the display turns off and the boiler cools downs. The light for the steam boiler stays on so it's not a total shutdown. When I turn off the machine and let it cool for a while it will work again. Any idea's as to what might be causing this? Faulty board? Connector overheating and getting loose?

Hi, at first, thanks so much for al this useful information! I’ve got a short circuit problem, when power at heating element (steam boiler) fuse gets blown out. Did ohm test and numbers changing so I guess heating element is dead. In this case is it always just the heating element or can it also be other parts on top of the steam boiler? Don’t think so but just want to be sure. Greets, Tom v T Netherlands
@Wholelattelovepage

Hi Tom, Cant be certain from here but if circuit blows when heating element is energized fairly good chance it's the element.

Hey guys, awesome video. I've got the Expobar Brewtus IV R, and dont like that it turns off the brew boiler if the steam boiler heats up. Mostly because this creates a bigger temp deviation because the PID gets all messed up. If I would connect the two white plugs on the pressostat together (and to the top connector), this would make the brew boiler relay always energised (Assume that's no biggie) BUT: Power to this wire comes from the control box. Can this control box handle this higher current? I've got relays, but don't wanna do work that's not necessary :) /edit I’m in EU, so 230V

Are you sure the blue wire is neutral for the Expobars? I ask because in the US, a colored wire would normally signify switched power. This is also how my Expobar is wired, with the black hot lead being switched to blue, and the white neutral being switched to white wiring inside the Expobar. Mine has been working this way for well over a decade. I also checked to make sure my chassis is not hot when switched on, although I wouldn't expect neutral to contact ground in a modern machine like this. Who's machine is wired correctly? :-)

The brew boiler on my Brewtus (PID machine) overheat. Water gets too hot even though the PID is set to a specific temperature (the PID indicates a much higher temperature than set temperature). Water comes out from the brew group almost as steam. I suspected the Temperature Probe, but i have no ERROR message. Any idea where I should look at ? Thanks by the way for the amazing tech videos. Really help me a lot taking care of my Brewtus!
@Wholelattelovepage
@Wholelattelovepage 6 лет назад
Hi Carl, One thing that can cause this is not returning the brew lever to the fully down position after brewing this can allow air into the boiler which can cause temperature problems.

Thanks for a great tutorial, which have helped me. Have the same machine, and after not having used the steamer for some time, i ended up using it. After that the machine acted strange, and then turned black. I have now managed to get electricity, but when the machine is turned on, water keeps running out of bottom valve. Pluss does not increase in temperature. Do you have any suggestions for what may be wrong? Cheers :)

Can you be more specific as to where the water is running out of? Is the pump running continuously? If so it could be the boilers fill level probe. Is the water heating at all in the steam boiler?

When the machine is turned on, water is running and the pressure is building, and stops at around 12.5 bar.

Hi Todd. Any chance you can make video on how to change a heating element?
@73smoo
@73smoo 7 лет назад
Oh, I'd be interested in that as well. When I tried it on my Leva HX I didn't succeed. Then I went to a car work shop. After some time they managed to get it off. Just with an impact wrench it worked out. But also finding the right socket was difficult, none fitted exactly. The problem what makes it especially hard on Expobar machines is, they use an insane glue to seal the heating element. I wonder why they are not using just a gasket. That would make it a lot easier. Therefore I'm curious how Todd does it! Is it really somehow possible to do it through the hole in the bottom which the Brewtus has?

Great video guys! I have a question. The steamwand on my week old Brewtus keeps spitting water while steaming. Not just in the beginning. The manometer from the steam boiler reads below 1 bar of pressure. Shouldn’t the pressure in the steamboiler be higher than 1 bar? Is this probably the reason that my steamwand keeps spitting water? I hope you can help me out. Greets from europe. Friso
@Wholelattelovepage
@Wholelattelovepage 3 года назад
Hi FS, Thanks for the question. Pressure in the boiler prior to steaming should be higher than 1 bar. That could be causing excess water. Here's our video showing how to adjust steam pressure on Expobar machines: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WVKg4z3yhkI.html

Hi, I have my brew boiler set at 203 F. This morning when I start it up it was going over 250 F, I immediately let the lever up and let the water running, for a while util the pump kick in and add cold water, dropped under 195 F, start checking the pressure stat, its working other way around. When the red light is ON the steam boiler shut off, when the light goes off the power on the stream boiler start getting power. Could it be that pressure stat is gone (replaced 4 months ago at the time was just freeze and was boosting up the steam boiler) and after switch working other way around adds too much pressure to the brew boiler?

@hristiyanpetrov5622
@hristiyanpetrov5622 3 года назад
@@1hunterbh28 Hi, sorry I didn see your question. To be honest I have the Expobar for two years and couple of months now. I have been replacing the pressurestat 4 times. Not sure why the Brewtus does this, but it goes bad exactly every 4 to max 5 months. In fact now is my 5th one. I tried one from gaggia for example but same result. Also I have replaced once the Heating element on Steam boiler. This was big issue... a lot of glue and without impact wrench is almost impossible. After 1 year or so the safety fuses on the heating element went bad, I just cut them off and hook it up directly. So far no issues with Heating Element since that. But unfortunately every other month I need to do something with the Brewtus. For comparison in My office I have ECM Synchronica - it working twice as much than the Brewtus which is in my home, also is Year older and than the Expobar .... NEVER gave me a hard time just plug, use and forget about it.

Thanks guys, always helpful how precise you guys are going over the machine parts! Concerning the electrics: is it common for the spade terminals' isolation (the plastic covering) at the on/off switch to get toasted over time? Or is there a problem if this happens?

Any videos on descaling Expobar double boilers? Is descaling necessary if i'm using distilled water? I read about sealants, are they necessary during replacement of parts? Or Teflon tapes will do the job?
@Wholelattelovepage
@Wholelattelovepage 9 лет назад
qwe7410 We do not have a video on descaling Expobar duals but will do one. If using 0 TDS distilled or RO/DI water then in theory no scale can accumulate. Some things to keep in mind: Ultra pure water (0TDS) is a rather powerful solvent to the point of leaching the metal of some boilers. We do not recommend using ultra-pure water in espresso machines. We know people do use it, but its solvent qualities run the risk of causing damage with long term use. The Specialty Coffee Association recommends brew water have some mineral content to improve flavor. Here's a link to SCAA brew water standards: www.scaa.org/?page=resources&d=water-standards. In most applications teflon tape can be used in place of sealants.
